Hi all. What do you carry all your things(towels, sunscreen. Snorkling gear ect) in when you go ashore. I seem to have a lot of things on the spare bed. I think I need it all! Any last minute help would be great. 18 busy days to go. Boy am I nervous. Suexxx

I'd recommend something like a backpack. You often have to take a tender to get to the shore, and this usually involves both hands holding on to the railing as you embark and disembark, so take something that hangs off your shoulders and not your hands.

Go to A-mart all sports or rebel sport and buy one of those gym bags. The nike ones are pretty good, and they cant hold a fair bit off stuff. Its what i used when we went ashore at the whitsundays.

I think they go from $15 to $20.

Hi Suexxx, we are on the same cruise:)

I have always taken my backpack or a beach bag. Remember that you will probably have your camera in it, so make sure it will be protected against sand and water.
We usually carried our flippers and just popped our snorkel and masks into the bag. Our towels pretty much ended up over our shoulders when they were wet and sandy.

You need to make room for bottled water. I have a backpack that I always travel with and it has side holders for water bottles.

I hope that helps.

defiantely take a smallish bag that you can fold up and put in your suitcase. we took one of those cheapy stripey bags from the $2 shop. we then used it for all our dirty washing , we took it ashore to the beach stops (without the dirty washing !!). 4 towels etc take up a bit of room. we then just used the bag when we came home with all the dirty washing in. Of course we werent flying. straight from the ship to taxi to laundry. Of course then that makes room for all the stuff you HAD to buy while away.

We always use the same Billabong backpack my husband has had for years, it packs flat in the suitcase, but it doesn't fit in our fins, so we have just bought a new bag fom Paddy's markets when down there recently, i had been looking everywhere for one long enough to fit my husbands extra long:eek: fins in. it's an extra long backpack.

This bag is perfect, also has lots of waterproof little compartments and has a shoe compartment on the side for our reef shoes.

My shore excursion beach bag consists of: fins, mask, snorkel, reef shoes, towels, camera, book, water, water and water, indian type cotton long sleeve shirt, sarong, coin purse, hat, in a small drawsring bag i take, sunblock, lipbalm, small packet of moist towels (wetones), great to get the sand and salt off.

Hi all. So many alternatives. I greatly appreciate all of your replys. Will go looking tomorrow. Hope I will have some room in our bags. Is there a limit to the no of bags you can take on a Qantas domestic flight or is it a weight thing. Looked at Qantas information but I found it confusing. Worked out about CARRY-ON BUT NOT THE REST. ANY HELP AGAIN WOULD BE GREATTTTTT.:D

Hi suexxx
You can take one piece only of 'checked in' baggage weighing a max. of 32kg on a Qantas Dom.(economy). If you're lucky enough to fly Business class, you can take 3 pieces, each piece with a max. weight of 32 kgs.

A pilot friend of ours says the weight & size restrictions are to protect the baggage handlers, not to stop the plane from failing to make lift-off.....no point in worrying about dieting then!;)

Cheers

Sue, have you got a cabin bag, we have one that matches our luggage set, it's the right size to use as a carry on on the plane and it could also double up as beach/excursion bag. Ours also has an expandable zipper for all that shopping

Strandbags and department stores have them, not very expensive. You could get a cheap backpack and fold it up inside to use for shore excursions as well.
