Hi cruzers, what is the easiest way to get duty free booze onto the ship in Sydney without letting the security staff in on it? I like to have a bottle of Bundy for a nip at lunchtime or after meals before going to bed at night?

Hi Lorraine..
Just for the ease to me I think that it would be and seeing that I have the alcohol already purchased I believe that it is. I am not what could be called a rager and a boozer. All I want is the freedom to have a nip in my cabin before going to bed..... No problem...

Hi again, I didn't know if your question was a joke....
but I am sure that if anyone is smuggling their grog on board, they won't say how they are doing it on this board for the world to find out what they do.
P&O and Princess people read these boards, and I am sure they would love to know what people do.
If you are game enough to try, then that is your business
kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)

I doubt if you would be able to get duty free onboard since you would have to declare it to customs before you leave and then would just confiscate it then and their.

Hi Cheznandy..
Its been a while since the sapphire. What a great ship. Yes on the Sapphire we did get the duty free onboard as we joined her in Auckland and had the duty free in our checked baggage when we joined. But joining the Pacific Princess is different as it will be in Sydney and the Customs check point will be at the terminal and P&O Staff will be there. Hmmmmm. This will prove to be a bit more difficult.. But never say never

As ADF says, all duty free liquor carried onboard has to be declared on boarding, so would be taken and held in bond. All hand luggage is xrayed on boarding so you wouldn't even get away with carrying it on without declaring it. All checked luggage is also x-rayed, so you wouldn't even get away with taking it on your checked luggage.
Duty free brought on board the ship isn't delivered til the last day of the cruise, and duty free brought at ports is delievered to the ship by the shops and held in bond on board the ship until the last day of the crusie.

Well rules are rules..........don't get me wrong, I loved having my duty free on board and having a pre dinner drink in my room, but I certainly wouldn't risk smuggling it on board.
There are reasons P&O have changed this policy and you only have to have been watching the news to see why, so how about buying a couple from the bar and enjoying them in your room?

Has anyone been able to buy a bottle of wine at the bar to take back to their room?
I know you can buy a glass or two, but what about a bottle?
Speaking of wine, I bought 6 bottles of Hunter Valley Cleanskin Chardonnay yesterday for $11.36. An absolute bargain. That works out at under $2.00 a bottle.

Wow Jenny, you live in the best spot for it:D
I'm enjoying Semillion Sauvignon Blancs at the moment, we will be doing our yearly weekend away down there probably July, usually stay at GlenAyr Cottages, four bedroms, ensuites, open fire and a great deck overlooking the Brokenback mountains;) nearly as good as a cruise!

Hi Chez
I was wondering if you had a website address for those cottages. I did a bit of a search but couldn't find anything. Would love to know what they are like. I love the Hunter Valley but haven't been there for years and would really like to go back.
Maybe I should wait til our cruise (wouldn't be before then anyway) and if we hit it off with Jenny & Phil......:p
Just kidding Jenny. Seriously Chez, I'd like to hear more about that place.

Hi Karen,
website for cottages is www.glenayrcottages.com.au (http://www.glenayrcottages.com.au)
He charges per person not per cottage, we stayed in the Morrison which sleeps four couples. Worked out $360 per couple for two night weekend, late checkout on Sunday 4pm, so you really get three days.
It's not luxury accommodation but good value compared to some of the prices in the Hunter:eek: . Lovely kitchen with all the gadgets, we prefer to cook there, no driving and can sample all that good wine:p and go out for yummy lunches!

Back to your question, yes you can buy a bottle of wine and take it back to your room. There seemed to be no restrictions on the Star taking alcohol (any reasonable amount) anywhere on the ship as long as it is purchased on board. Don't risk trying to smuggle on duty free for onboard consumption - they will catch you.
