From your signature you have been to St. Thomas before, do you suggest anything to a first timer? I've seen things on the threads, but what's your take?

Thanks, that's my cat when he was a kitten...

We went to Sapphire Beach last time we were in St. Thomas and it was beautiful; there was some things to see snorkeling, but I hear that Coki is better if you like to snorkel.....overall, the beach and the picturesque setting was magnificent...we also went shopping in town and it was ok and they also have shopping in the cruise port. I think we are going to go back to Sapphire Beach for the day...

If you have any more questions feel free to ask since we've been there and San Juan before...

We are a family of 5.
Mom, Dad, + 3 kids
We always book a year in advance.
Last year we sailed RCI's Freedom of the Seas, this fall we are sailing to Hawaii on the Serneade of the Seas.

This will be our first Carnival cruise as a family, however the dishwasher and I have sailed on Carnival before the kids came along.

I'm booked on this one with my husband and his parents. I'm working on trying to convince my parents, brother, and sister-in-law to join us to make it a true family affair.

We just got off the Liberty 8-day Western (the 9/1/07 sailing) and are very much looking forward to sailing her again. This sailing ended up stopping in Grand Turk due to Hurricane Felix, and we loved the port - great snorkelling.

You can count me in too. I'll be there with my beach bag in hand waiting for the tender to drop me off at HMC!!!!!

I be travelling solo, so no one to taggging along!!!!!!!

I booked this cruise in November when the Canadian dollar was fairly high. I could have waited for a sale, but I couldn't risk not getting the cabin I want. I went with a Lido deck cabin this time!!! I've been on deck 7 (suite life Conquest), deck 8 (Victory), Deck 10 (Triumph). and now Deck 9. I think I'll upgrade my free cruise to deck 6 (8A cabin) when I decide which ship I want....

Anyone who hasn't been to Half Moon Cay before is in for a real treat!!!!!!

Hi all --
Greetings from Boston! Just booked this cruise and are looking forward to it. It's been a long winter! One thing we are hoping is that compared to our other cruises in the summer, there won't be as many kids running all over the ship raising hell at night! Anyone else from the Boston/New England area here yet?

Best regards --

Hello all, I just booked on Thursday evening so count me in! I just went on the same trip, but different ship, in October and it was so much fun! Long story short, I am meeting some friends from FL on this trip (which they had already booked about 6 months ago) and it is going to be a medium to large group. There will be a bunch of us singles (m & f) going from ages 25-33. Looking forward to reading and posting on this board for the next 6 months.

Here is a short video of my cruise last year, it will give you a little idea of what you are in for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9DXNW_5vGU

Hello Smiles,

We did the Helmet Dive in St. Thomas, it was very fast excursion but worth the money. Unfortunately it also was mid hurricane season so the water wasn't as clear as we had hoped. It was still a good time though! We did book through Carnival and I saw several individuals that did the same dive and did not pay as much as we had. I have yet to do that, but certainly would after cruising a few times.

SandyToes-Cold? January in the Caribbean cold.....Let me guess, you're from the Southern States where it is warm all the time. Any temperature in the 20's (Celcius) is considered nice and when it hits the 30's (celcius) it's darn hot!!!! Now, the 40's (celcius) is downright melting weather. Naturally, these are air temp plus humidity because those not used to humidity, like me, tend to melt when it hit's high 30's.....

You want cold, come up to Canada in January, heck December-March, and you will know cold....The week before we left on the Conquest (Feb 3-10) it was freezing cold (anywhere from -25C to -46C) and the week we were gone it dipped down again to the -40's Celcius for several days. You have no idea of cold until you have to wear two layers of clothes and throw vanity out the door and wear the teddy bear earmuffs just to go to work (via the public transit system).

I'll suffer through the humidity in September. I just have to find some light weight tank tops and shorts (and a size larger!).

SandyToes1978

Ahhh, angel, you got me beat for sure. Nope, from Northern Nevada, and it can get pretty darn cold out here too. We actually did west coast mexican riviera last january and it was cold. Puerto Vallarta was the warmest day, and it was only in the 70's F. Long Beach for emarkation was only 35 degrees F. There was Frost on everything!! I am ready for a WARM cruise and a WARM beach!:p :p :p Never again the Mex Riv. in January!

Hello everyone :)

We just booked this cruise a few days ago. We were all to be on the 3/1 sailing of the Liberty to celebrate DS and his fiancee's graduation from college, but had to cancel at the last minute. So it looks like this will be our choice instead - as long as everyone can get there schedules arranged.

We have never cruised in the fall - we have always cruised in the winter/early spring. Any one have insight as to what I should expect to be different??

Welcome! Hope it all works out witb everyones' schedules.
Be prepared for possible itin. changes, Sept is usually a busy month for hurricanes. DH & I first cruise out of Miami 5 years ago was squeezed in between two hurricanes, but we had a great time still.....

What kind of excursions does everyone have planned?

We're really looking forward to that first relaxing day at Half Moon Cay. A nice relaxing day right off the bat really gets you relaxed and into cruise mode and frame of mind!

I would like to do some of island tour in St. Thomas in the morning and then go shopping in the afternoon. The times that I've been in St. Thomas before we've always done some kind of water excursion right after disembarking, and I've never really had the time to see the island.

Jose and I love San Juan, so we're going to just walk around, enjoy old San Juan and the forts and then have lunch at La Mallorquina, not to be missed whenever we are there! This restaurant goes back at least 150 years. The history is evident in the dining room, especially in the old mirrors. The asopao is not to be missed!

At Grand Turk I think we want to take the Catamaran Sailaway, Cotton Cay Beach. We might consider a private excursions if any of you are willing to go in on it with us. Otherwise we'll probably just stick with Carnival's excursion. Then we'll go back to Margaritaqville and lift a cool one!

So what do you all have planned?

twenty Weeks From Now We Will All Be Busy Packing!!!!!!!!!! Are You All As Ready As I Am????????????:d

You are going to wait that long???? No way, I will be packed about 2-2 1/2 weeks before we go. ONLY because I take after my mother (who will be on this cruise with my father, but not with me...NO WAY) and am a over packer. So I will start about 2 weeks ahead of time....Than take things out, move them around, put some back in, take it back out, and this will go on for the two weeks. PLUS, my roommate, who is going, waits until the last minute, so I will have to help her pack, GOOD THING I am off Sept. 1st for labor day weekend. An extra 8 hrs to pack :D

Hi all!
My wife mentioned to me Monday that Carnival is relaxing their dress code in regards to the so-called "formal nights." Maybe it will help you in the packing department as you may not need to pack the extra clothing. This works well especially since many of the airlines are charging for a second bag per person.

Here's the news from Cruise Critic's News:

Carnival Cruise Line
The Code: Carnival will change its dress code this spring. Currently, most ships have formal and casual dress codes. Formal dress includes tuxedo, suit and tie, or jacket and tie for men and evening gown, cocktail dress or pantsuit for women. Casual wear means sport shirts and slacks for men and dresses, skirts or pantsuits for women.

The new dress code is being tested on two ships and will roll out fleetwide in mid-May. Cruise casual dress includes sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), long dress shorts and collared sport shirts for men, and casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, capri pants, dress shorts and jeans (no cut-offs) for women. Cruise elegant dress means dress slacks, dress shirts and sport coat (suggested not required) for men and cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses for women. On elegant nights, passengers may choose to dress more formally in suits and ties, tuxedos or evening gowns, but this level of dress is not required.

Number of Formal Nights: There are two formal nights per seven-night cruise, one on shorter cruises. Cruise elegant nights will replace formal nights under the new system.

Nightly Casual Option: For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly and have a casual dress code.

Written Restrictions and Jeans: Under the new dress codes, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans and sleeveless shirts for men are the only items of clothing never permitted in the dining room during dinner.

See you in September!
.....Steve

Did someone mention 4 single girls ????

Well please allow me to introduce myself.........
My name is Devon and I am known in the baseball world as the Devonator because when they call me in to shut down the 9th inning, the game is over! Batters can't touch my 64MPH fast ball.

64MPH may not sound that fast in the majors, but hey.........I'm only 14 years old.
And if you 4 single ladies are concerned about the cost of the cabana rental on Half Moon Cay, I'd love to spring for the cabana and I would welcome you 4 to join me for some sun, sea, and whatever happens next. Now please no fighting between the four of you. Rest assured that I will do my best to accomodate each one of you in order to provide quality time with ME.

I am a young veteran of cruising and I would be more than happy to provide you with insider tips on how to maximize your cruise experience.
See you onboard.

hello to everyone- I have just booked my daughter and her boyfriend on this cruise and they are way excited!
this is her second cruise, and boyfriend's first. Her first cruise was with our whole family, on Pacific Princess around the pacific islands Noumea, Vila, etc., (closer to home) and she's looking forward to seeing the difference between the pacific islands and the caribbean islands.
They will be travelling around the USA and will be in New York for a couple of weeks before flying into Miami and Orlando.

I'm 'slightly' nervous about the word hurricaine but hoping everything will be ok.
It sounds like a great itinerary and a lot of fun.

I have a couple of questions...does anyone take their own booze onboard? maybe just a bottle of vodka? or are they really strict about that over there? Also, can you order a bottle of wine with dinner, and they will store the remainder to have with your meals?
they're not huge drinkers, but it's just a thought.

If anyone is arranging private tours, I think they'd be interested in joining.

wish we were coming too-;)

Please be advised that if you attempt to smuggle a bottle on board, you do so at your own risk.
If it is detected during the boarding process, it will be confiscated.
And yes, passengers may purchase a bottle of wine in the dining room.
If it is not consumed at once, the wine steward will label the bottle and store it in a proper environment onboard the vessel.

And no need to worry about your daughter being so far away from home.
I'll take very good care of her for you........
Everything from photo sessions to private tours. I will personally make sure she has the time of her life!

Hello Raringtogo.

I have truly enjoyed this correspondence with you.
You sem like a very caring and dedicated mom, and that is so important.
I look forward to meeting your daughter and her boyfriend, and they are lucky to have a mom like you. One of the aspects of cruising that I really enjoy is the ability to meet so many new people from various backgrounds.
I don't beleive I have ever made any freinds form Australia in my travels.
To answer your questions; I never travel during baseball season. We play from May 1 to September 1. That is why I chose this sailing since it is just a few days after our provincial finals. Secondly I am taking that week off from school since it will be a lighter work load during that period.

hi again Devonator

well, thank you for the compliments.

You have been the source of much conversation and a lot of laughs for the last few days and we love your sense of humour

Maybe there will be a few more Aussies on this cruise- we're known for our easy-going and fun-loving personalities, and it's high time you got to know some (aussies).

You sound very serious about your baseball - are you hoping to make it a career choice, or is it enjoyment only?

May 1st, 2008, 07:46 AM
Well I am glad to hear that I have been a catalyst to your entertainment.
I too have enjoyed our dialogue, and perhaps you might encourage your daughter to contribute a few words on this forum.
My first game of the season is tonight. It is still very cold here in Canada, and I am scheduled to start on the mound.

In baseball that translates to being the starting pitcher for the game.
I'm sure in Australia, "a mound" may have other certain definitions !
Looking forward to hearing from your lovely daughter.......

1) 4 ladies from Summer Breeze's group on Half Moon Cay
2) Raringtogo's daughter for photo sessions and private tours
3) And now we have 3 ladies from Smile0725's group

We can watch Carnival's jumbo screen on the panarama deck in the evening. I will bring some blankets and we will get comfortable under the Caribbean's starry sky.

Metabolic steroids are banned from Baseball, but I think I'm gonna need some for this cruise.
Take a number ladies...........I'll be right with you.

With all these new activities added to my itinerary, when will I ever find the time to hit batting practice off the back of the ship ?

Years ago they stopped skeet shooting from the back of cruise ships for environmental concerns and clay pucks being dumped into the ocean.

But baseballs look great when you belt one 400 feet and watch it splash behind the ship.

Sure beats knitting and basket weaving !

Our group of 4 is now down to 2. My brother in law and his wife found out they are pregnant and she will be past the 27 week point when we sail. At least it's for a wonderful reason! So DH and I will be celebrating our anniversary alone, that might be a good thing after all!;)

Seawench-Ange is only a number, but between you and I we can watch out for the young ladies....I'll have to remember to pack the chastity belts for those young ladies....

Devonator--Leave the love drugs at home, those girls will be protected. Now, I am not sure if shotguns are allowed onthe ship, but if they are the father of those girls might get an itchy finger...

Dear Misguided:

Your name definitely suits you, since you have completely missed the point of this thread. Perhaps you were raised in an environment based on fear and violence. Guns were your only stimuli in your trailer home.

I am looking forward to this cruise to meet new people and share new experiences. I am hoping to foster new relationships with fellow cruisers, while you chew your tobacco, and load your guns.

Were you deprived of sensitive and nurturing parents because they were off hunting groundhogs for breakfast ?
Have you considered counselling or therapy ?

Put your guns away and embrace your neighbor.
When we mortals eventually pass..........all we really have in this world are the relationships that we have established. And success is measured by how many people come to visit your grave. Not the number of guns that put you there.

I would also specualte that the ship's security would be very interested in learning about your gun threats. But don't worry, I hear the brig serves very good quality groundhog !

91days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Devonator-sorry, I am Canadian. We have this little law called gun control. MY father did have two hunting rifles, but I wouldn't touch them with a 50 foot pole, even if I was asked......And as for home home, no trailer park near where I live/grew up....typical neighborhood-single family homes and rental apartments, and a 7-11 on the corner....

Good luck on the Rolex, those babies are pricy.....A table mate on my last cruise checked out the prices and said if he was going to buy one it would be the one for 10G and not the one for 7G.........

Here's hopin for quiet hurricane season!!

Okay so I have to ask....ANYONE else excited about the amount of days we have left??? I know I am.....I already have things bought that are only going to be used for the cruise, and I am almost done doing my clothes shopping for the Cruise. YES I AM AN OVER PLANNER! I get that from my momma.....Sorry mom. lol Well I know with my mom giving me count downs EVERY DAY, not a day goes by that I don't think about the cruise.

Just for those who don't know, my parents have decided to book this cruise at the same time my friends and I decided to book it......that's why I keep talking about my mom, knowing she will read this:) LOVE YA!

Anyways, back to the cruise, I don't think I could be anymore EXCITED!!!!!! So until than, lets keep this roll call going, seems like we had a few days where nothing happened :D

I pulled up cruise critic today and couldn't believe that we are at 88 days!! I am sooo ready! I have OCD when it comes to packing and it's killing me to not start packing! The only thing stopping me is that it's summer and we need to wear most of the clothes now. I'm going to attempt to not overpack but I'm sure I'll pack and re-pack many times. DH and I are flying out the day before and keeping our fingers crossed for good weather. The times before that we cruised, we went out of Texas and it's always been raining so I would love to be on the pool deck partying and waiving to people as we set sail. So for now I'll just be planning, :D yes smiles you come by it honestly, and dreaming of packing. COME ON SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!

Misguided Angel, I saw you were checking about the Cabana rental, my DH and I are going to try to book one, maybe you can hang out with us. Im 47, he's 55. Both like siwmming, snorkeling and hanging out in the sun.

How many different states do we have? its fun to put together little gift bags from each state featuring things the states famous for and have drawings at the meet and great. Which I was on the Lido deck last time so it will be nice to be on a different deck (of course a different ship too lol) But my room is about 7-11 doors down from the elevators, in the middle of the ship, that should be good!!!! My mom says she that's a good floor and placement for not getting motion sickness. One person in our group has never cruised before so that's a good thing. Her room is by the elevators. So we are not too far from eachother. I JUST CAN'T WAIT! This is exciting. Can someone give me an example of a bag? I am not a creative person and I feel for the person who gets my bag lol. Cindy, I am just a tad older than you, I just barely barely turned 30   but my DH is still 28. As far as goodie bags go, just maybe something from your state. You're from Missouri, right? So maybe something from St. Louis (bbq sauce or gateway arch) or maybe from Branson. I don't know, just an idea. This will be fun, I think. Maybe I will bring a slot machine!! LOL

You lucky people who have your assignements already. Any upgrades? I can access my e docs just fine, I got on about 2 hours after I made final payment and there they were....:p

As for the gift bags - just google items made in your state and get a list. Put together ur gift bag from the list. I love to cook so community cookbooks would be a great gift bag treat along with some NC made products.

Did someone say slot machine? I hope its a toy one, maybe I can win on one of those. Being from California I should have lots of choices ...lets see were famous for oranges, Disneyland, Hollywood, Sourdough bread, sunshine, and Napa Valley Wine.......HMMMM...This could be really fun!:D

We have been hit really hard with wildfires, no sun for me so my tan won't be very good. To much smoke in the air to see the sun. Counting down the days to sun and fun:cool:

I hope Luvmex that your home isn't in any danger. We would love to send you some of our rain to put those fires out. I think we are all going to sprout feathers and webbed feet soon. About the slot machine, make sure its ready to hit a jackpot. I could use that! LOL;)

The smoke is really bad here too. We are just barely over the state line, but in Nevada north of Reno. I hope too, Luvmex your house is safe. I can't believe how many fires are going. We were gone last week and just came home Tuesday night and couldn't believe all the smoke & fires. We live in a very rural area and I think that's our biggest concern especially in the summer. And I hope everyone else is safe from the floods!

I am thankful that I don't have to worry about the flood. We are in the middle between Kansas City and St. Louis right on I-70. The river is about 20 miles south in Jefferson City so we would probably see Noah and the Ark should the flood waters get to me.

Devonator-Mind your manners young man, I am old enough to be your mother. Oh, and smoking, or tobacco products are bad for your health. I may have had to live in a home with three smokers (parents and brother), but I was smart and won't touch that evil product!. As for flowers, I prefer exotic flowers like orchids, bird of paradise....

Oh my folks, I am having a crisis moment with how I am going to pack a weeks worth of clothes into ONE suitcase and leave my rolling carry on as empty as possible for all the goodies I'll be bringing back. Is anyone else having this dilemma too? ALL the airlines are making economy passengers pay for the second and some for all checked luggage so we have to pack as light as possible! I'm going to try and get away with one suitcase, but I might just give up and pack two. Time will tell when I do a sample packing in August..

Is it just me, or did May and June fly by for you folks out there?......September will be here before we know it!!

I don't have that problem sorry :( IT's not that I am a light packer, because I soooo am not. But it's because I am such a planner that I booked my flight in like March or April and so if I can show them the email saying I did this, I don't have to pay the extra 25 dollars. Guess my momma did me right with that.... :D

I too am notorious for overpacking. Unfortunately we were not able to get our airfare at a decent price until May, so the 2nd bag fee will be in effect. This is what I did:
I went shopping and with the extra bag fee in mind, bought lots of single color tshirts and tank tops that can layer together and interchange with different shorts. They are all really lightweight material. I have 2 formal dresses and even those I can pack in my regular bag. So when I thought I got everything I could possibly want, I drug out the big suitcase and rolled everything really small into gallon sized ziplock bags. Even the formal dresses. I still had over 1/3 of my suitcase left as well as an entire carry on.:D I was really really suprised. I left it that way for a week to see if anything would get wrinkled. Everything came out just fine, even the dresses. So now I know I can pack all the shoes I want...;) Best thing, even with all that stuff in the suitcase it only weighed about 35 pounds, so I still have room to play with. (Yes, I have already packed and unpacked my suitcase... nuerotic, maybe?) :p

Sandytoes-my next cruise has been booked for more than two months now!!!! I also have the opportunity to go to Alaska next summer (not yet confirmed for sure). I'll also be booking the Splendor for Sept 09 when I get back in September. Since it's my big four-oh! birthday I want to go in style--a spa suite!!!!!! Price be damned!!!!!! If I can't get a spa suite I'll go for a standard suite, but the spa suites have a few extra perks!!!!!

I want to go to Alaska so bad. I think I am going to wait for a Cruise Critic group to do it and go with them. It's cheap and far enough in advance that I can get it paid off. I do have to say that I think I am not going on a cruise in 2009. Think we are headed to Las Vegas. But I think I will be okay. Maybe or maybe not. They might find me setting in the bathtub with a fruity drink trying to catch some rays :D pretending I am on a cruise.....AHHH. lol

There are laundy facilities on board, I would rather do a load of laundry rather than haul around a ton of luggage. I usually take a ice chest that folds up, then use it in my room to keep my drinks cold, if I do to much shopping I stuff it with all my shoes to make room in my suitcase and just use the ice chest as a carry on. All this overtime from the fires will help pay for my cruise.......But boy do I need a vacation!!!!!!!

Debbie and Will-Missouri (2)
Cris and Keith-North Carolina (2)

Summerbreeze- sorry, don't have a state for you- (4)

Let me know if I've missed someone. From reading other cc forums, I'm fairly certain that Carnival won't do anything special for us so we're on our own. I've tried getting a hold of a capers so as not to interfere with other things going on but who am I kidding! There is always something going on when you're cruising! Happy 4th of July Cruise Buddies -

This is the first time in the last 3 days I have been able to get online. I went to the doctor yesterday and yep I have Streap Throat. Kind of throws a wrench in my 3 day weekend plans. My room mate was being a great room mate and trying to take care of me when we thought it was the flu. She said and I quote "think happy thoughts, think about the cruise" my reply was "if I am sick on the cruise someone shoot me or throw me over board" lol. All in all I hope everyone has a GREAT 4th of JULY! I am going to my mom's (deb2543) to see the family and probably take short naps, maybe even eat (have not had real food for 3 days). Again, take care!!

P.s. deb2543 turns another year younger on Sunday! Happy early birthday mom!

Haven't had much time to read the posts here the past few weeks. Both my wife and I have been real busy at our respective jobs. But I like the idea of the grab bags from our respective states. If this is what everyone will be doing we'll gather up some goodies from Boston and bring them down with us. Please put me on your list for a Meet 'N Greet if one ever does come about. I'll try to check in a bit more frequently as time permits to see what's happening with it. BTW, we had a great time aboard the "Mariner of the Seas" two years ago with their Meet 'N Greet and we met some wonderful folks, some of whom we are still in communications with this day. Hi SeaWench, et. al:

FYI, Royal Caribbean gave us a room on the upper deck (14th floor, Viking Crown Room?) overlooking the pool area, provided a small snack tray (Cheeses and fresh fruits) and soft drinks. They even provided a pad and pouch with the Crown and Anchor logo to hang around your neck to hold any ID's and take notes about the other guests. It was a very informal gathering and with no agenda and was a great vehicle to meet those who had been writing to each other via CruiseCritic. IIRC, we had about 20 to 25 attending. I do not know however who arranged the room if it was done by a poster, or if RCCL visits the various cruise threads and sets one up themselves based on the response. I suppose a quick call to the Carnival office would be a first step approach to see if they're willing to do the same with this group. Maybe if they are, we can give them an approximate "final count" a week prior to sailing. If not, then we can just set a place and time somewhere on the ship ourselves at some common meeting place and have our own party! I don't see where that would be against their rules.

BTW, my wife's name is Jill, so you can add her to your list. She's starting to get excited already as it's less than two months to go.

Just out of curiosity, and not having been on Carnival's "private island" before, do you, or anyone else reading this, know if Carnival sets up a barbecue arrangement for lunch on Half Moon Cay as Royal Caribbean does on their private islands of Coco Cay and Labadee?

Best regards and catch up with you later --

I just did some digging into some old posts and the M&M on the Mariner was held in Ellington's and in order to have an "official" M&M on RCCL, there was and still is a minimum of 25 for them to schedule one. Any chance we could move it up to 3;00 or 4:00????? I was thinking 2:00 is prime deck time.......or not. Is anyone else a lounge liazard looking for sun time? If not we can keep it at 2:00, I will just have to drag myself outta my deck chair, drink in hand and head off to the meet n greet!:)

Seawench-Name the place and time and chances are good that I'll be there. I don't live in the US, I am Canadian...I could try to smuggle some prime Alberta Beef T-bone steaks, but I doubt that they would get past security at my home city airport....

Hey all,
I have been away for a while, my grandma has been in the hospital the last week. She is doing better and is at home, only problem, we may have to cancel!:( My grandparents are scheduled to watch our DS-3 and now may not be able to due to her not feeling well. Hopefully she will be well by then. We really don't have any one else to watch him so if they are unable, we will have to cancel. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you, so we are keeping our fingers crossed!:)

Lounge Lizard, looking for sun time..... Ya, that's probably me too!
Right now, I'm STILL waiting on some kind of response from Carnival. I may email and tell him that we are open on the time if it helps. Von and Nick, we'll keep hoping that everything goes well with your Grandmother and that we will see you on board.

Has anyone booked any excursions yet? Either thru the cruise line or on your own?

I'm really having a problem deciding - do you have any recommendations for the ports we are visiting?

TIA!

Shoretrips has tours of old San Juan and the Rum Factory....wasn't someone looking for a tour of the rum factory? A couple trips ago we took the local bus to Sapphire Beach, they had rental floats, chairs, and a good place to eat. Not sure about Grand Turk...never been there, San Juan, love the fort and wandering around Old Town, and Half Moon Cay...well CABANA here I come!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Sandytoes...Hope your Grandma gets better.......if not why not bring him?

I am looking at Christmas Cove snorking in St. Thomas or Cap't Nautica snorkling as well. Grand Turk I want to do Gibbs Cay tour, but then there is another snorkling one too that looks good. San Juan will be a day to stay on the ship and just RnR. I'll have a book with me so I can plop my butt on a deck chair and just read....Half Moon Cay I will do my best to get a cabana, if not, I will do the nature walk or stingray encounter--Heck ANY shore tour to be able to get off the ship right away!!!!!! I am hoping to get a cabana, I really really really want a cabana.....

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. My grandma is doing better, but still not sure if she will be able to take care of a 3 year old for 10 days.....
We do have a back up plan now, my brother and sister in law who were originally going with us already have the time off and are willing to be "Baby Borrowers":D since they are pregnant anyways.... We thought about bringing him along too, but.... it IS our anniversary and well, you know, we need a break!! (Especially me, I am a stay at home mom.)

On to the ports..... HMC we just want to hang out at the beach and RELAX ahhhhhh!
St Thomas we are either going over to St. John or doing a tour with Godfrey.
San Juan looks like we will explore the forts, maybe the rum factory and see if we can get some geocaches in...
Grand Turk we are planning on booking the dune buggys really soon (as soon as we find out for sure if we are going.) I did buy the trip insurance but would hate to lose out anyway....
Thinking positive and will be seeing all of you in less than 2 months!:D

So glad to hear things are looking up for you Sandytoes!!
As far as excursions go, HMC we are just lounging on the beach, St Thomas we are doing the Skyride, San Juan the forts via the trolley and we are hoping at Grand Turk to rent a golf cart and tour the island at our leisure. I checked the excursions that Carnival was offering but after doing some research of my own, the cc boards for ports of call is great, I decided I could probably do my own exploring. I don't swim so any snorkeling or anything like that for me is out of the question.

Just booked minutes ago. This will be our eighth cruise, all on Carnival but we have never booked so close to sailing date. It is very exciting not to have to wait too long. This will be the first cruise without our kids. My daughter just got back a couple of weeks ago from a honeymoon cruise on the Valor. I knew we would need to go soon after she was telling us all about their cruise. My son doesn't want to go because his girlfriend can't make it. But, I'm guessing our next cruise will be for six of us!

We are Steve and Kathy from Houston, Texas.

Howdy all! My sister, her friend and I just booked this cruise recently. I'm 27, and the two ladies I'll be with are in their early 30's. Were all single, from Ohio and a hell of a good time. Any other singles on this cruise? Looks like you guys have been counting down for a long time now.

My name is Jim, my sisters name is Tina, and her friends name is Elaine. Nice to meet you all. I'll Step up and try to teach the devonator the proper way to treat the ladies. He reminds me of myself when I was that age, I just wasn't as cocky.

Welcome Steve and Kathy, Jim and Tina too! The countdown has started and we can't wait. As for the Meet 'n Greet, I agree with LuvMex that 2:00 is not practical as there'll be too much confusion with people boarding, fighting the buffet lines, and trying to get settled into their staterooms. 4:00 PM might be a better time, or maybe once we clear the channel as we depart the Miami area and before we have to get ready for dinner. (BTW, watch out for the 'clowns' on ski-doo's trying to race the ship!)

If Carnival won't schedule a MnG, Let's set a location and just do it ourselves! How about on the upper deck just below the Jumbotron?

No excursions booked yet, but we're looking through the Carnival excursion book and the on-line listings. I'll be doing a snorkeling or a SNUBA somewhere for sure. I did a SNUBA last year in Cozumel and it was well worth it, just in case any of you are thinking about it somewhere.

Are the grab bags still a 'go' for this trip? Just a word of caution, be careful with what you bring and make sure whatever it is, is safely packed in your checked luggage.

Glad things are looking better for you SandyToes! We hope you can make the trip -- it sounds like you've earned it!

Delta has changed our return flights on the 13th out of FLL from 12:20 PM to 11:05 AM. Does anyone have any experience with private livery services from the Miami pier to the FLL airport? Does anyone have an early flight where we can share a van? We're probably going to have to do the self-checkout as soon as we're able to do so upon docking back at Miami. I'm open for suggestions!

Seven weeks to go!

The original meet and greet thought is 2:00 in the piano bar on the first full sea day which would be the day after HMC. When I emailed Carnival I just asked for whatever they could do to help us with the meet and greet and I am awaiting their answer. The "goodie" bags are still on and for those that are new to the thread, we're bringing something that is original to your home state to trade with others. Think of it as a party favor:p . The limit is $10.
Great to see we've added so many people to our roll call!!

Devon, you're being cocky by bragging about playing baseball and your "skills" with the ladies. You weren't being too gentleman like with misguidedangel. I'm glad a 14 year old knows how much a bar tab should and shouldn't be. That just makes me worry about your parents.

Thanks mex, so everyone just brings one then we randomly exchange to each other? I have a few things in mind that should be cool. Cant wait!

Devon, I don't make enemies with prepubescent children. Is that seminar you speak of close to where camp carnival where you'll be hanging out? Afterwards I just might stop by there and check out all the finger paintings and stick people you have drawn. I'm sure they will be beautiful.:D I might even comment on your Sponge Bob pajamas with the footsies.

Your parents should try to keep you out of bars and teach you some tact. But until that day I will enjoy our correspondence.

And yes, I played baseball from age 5 through high school. I would have smacked every ball you pitched to me 100 feet over the left field fence. Canadians aren't known for their overpowering pitching, and your 60 mph fastball is actually pretty weak for a 14 year old.

Let me tell you about my experience with the Carnival Transfers.......I have only cruised 1 time so I don't know everything but what I do know about the transfers isn't good. So is the consensus that it only takes a couple days to get your edocs and flight information after you’ve paid in full? I’m not sure if I’m just super anxious (because I’m sooooo dang excited) or if I’m being paranoid, but it appears that most have gotten it fairly quickly after their final payment and we have been paid in full since the 11th and I still have the message stating that my flight plans are not final yet and to check back later. Just curious if I need to mellow out a bit! Lol Well yea…I probably should…it’s only been 5 days…crud…this wait is KILLING ME!!!! JimMoFo--Welcome aboard!!! As for your point about the young Devonator, I act like an adult, which I and he isn't. I know all about life and the trials and tribulations--like deciding what to pay and how many groceries you can buy for $50 bucks and have enough to last seven whole days.....Devonator is a teenager whose parents spoil him rotten and take him on extravagent vacations. Hands down, he is spoiled rotten. My parents idea of a holiday since I was the age of oh, 2, was pack us up into the trailer/motorhome and go on a two-three week camping trip from hell in which I was the cooks helper, the maid, the trashman, the woodcollector/cutter, etc. No, he doesn't have a clue about what life is because if his parents pamper him with package vacations with maid/room service and trips to theme parks, blah, blah blah, he doesn't have a clue about what to expect when he is older and realized that when the paycheck is spent and there isn't anything left over you do nothing, go nowhere, and see nothing....

Devonator--no offense, you are a child and you have no clue what the adult world is like--it's a harsh realm where tough decisions have to be made and sometimes it isn't pretty.....Be happy you are a teenager and mommy and daddy are paying for you to be pampered because there are plenty out there who are going on camping trips from hell while you get to live it up for a week!!!!

We always did the tent thing....no motorhome or camper until I was older lol. Sometimes those were trips were H - E - L - L! But some were fun..... I agree with your whole posting misguidedangel! LOVE IT!

Now Smiles it wasn't that bad!!! But I now know that it's not a vacation unless they straighten your room twice a day, turn down your cover and put a lovely towel animal on your bed. Oh and put a napkin in your lap at dinner:D

I'm not being mean, I'm just bringing reality to your doorstep.....As for his $800 bar bill, if he can pay for it, no worries mate!

I concur completely.

Welcome to the boards E Heffa!

And Tina... you need to coooooool out!

We had that happen to us, we booked the Carnival transfer, you can do it onboard, they had us off the ship and to the airport in plenty of time.

LuvMex: Even with such an early flight? Carnival does not recommend a flight prior to noon. I'm willing to give it a shot if thay can get us to FLL by 0930 or 1000 on the first bus off the pier. It'll certainly be a heck of a lot easier!

BTW, For those contemplating Crnival transfers from FLL, we used them last year from FLL to the Miami pier and did not have any problems at all. Of course we had plenty of time since we flew down the day before and all we had to do was go back to the airport for the shuttle.

Hey Jim:

From reading your contributions to this forum, I am surprised you made it as far as high school.
Your grammar is equivalent to someone with a learning disability and requires special needs.
But I'm sure most of us passengers will be patient with you, and we will all try our best to speak very s-l-o-w-l-y so that you can keep up.

Try not to hurt yourself before we crusie.

Lol Oh yea…and the other greatest fear….that the stinkin’ porter guy will loose my luggage!!!!! LOL Quick…someone mail me a tranquilizer!!!!! Lol (teasing)
My edocs were on hold for months even tho the cruise was paid for. When my DD (dear daughter) contacted Carnival they said it could be as far as 30 days before the trip when we might get them. As for your problem with the iron, I so understand! I have OCD when it comes to packing and it's killing me that I haven't started yet! If you tightly roll your clothes it will lessen the wrinkles and give you more room in your suitcase. And yes, a steamer is important. So here's a piece of advise, take a deep breath and think of the calm of the ocean and save the tranquilizer for the first week in September when I'll be freaking out too!;)

On another note, I've lost count for the meet and greet. I had a list going at work but this board has been hopping! We've added quite a few in just the past week! So I figure when we get the time and place set, everybody just show up and we can be amazed at how many of us there are.

G' mornin' Jim:

Did you guys happen to catch the Major League Home Run Derby on Monday night?
Justin Morneau was crowned the Champion of that event. He was also awarded with the esteemed title of MVP for the 2006 season. But the most important detail that I have yet to mention is that he is a fellow CANADIAN. Yes that's right! Quite the accomplishment from one of your friendly neighbors to the north.
Furthermore, the calibre of high school ball just doesn't compare to the quality of baseball being played on an international stage. I have pitched all over the States and in Cuba, where they are known to breed and groom some of the best ball players in the world.
So Jim, I would advise you to think carefully before you pass judgement on people you do not know, and subjects where you lack authority.
How does it feel to be out witted by a 14 year old ?

Good luck and have fun at the dime bag swap meet.
I have reconsidered my attendance since I would much prefer to be shopping for my new Rolex. I am contemplating the Yachtmaster platinum model. Quite appropriate considering the extensive nautical miles that I have logged in my lifetime.

Hey Jim, your mouth is open but nothing is coming out.......

Hi Luvmex:

Your wish is my command.
If you would like a bottle of genuine Canadian maple syrup, I will carefully pack one of the finer brands from our local producers, and deliver it to your cabin.
You can send me a private message if you wish, with your cabin number.
I would be more than happy to comply......
