We're going on the March 13th sailing of the Volendam. I'm just thinking that the Bahamas can be quite chilly during the winter months. Is it worth the $$$ to book snorkeling or other excursions? We sailed on the NCL Dawn over Christmas and could not tender because of high seas at GSC. Any thoughts?

If you arrive at Half Moon Cay and cannot tender, any excursions you paid for are credited to your shipboard account.

We have been at Half Moon Cay every month of the year. We were on Amsterdam back-to-back one Christmas/New Years and both weeks we had glorious weather. We swam both times at HMC. Other times, we were there in April and it was chilly and the water too cool for swimming.

There is no way to predict the conditions on the day you will be there.

We were in Half Moon Cay last week on the Westerdam. The weather was sunny and pleasantly warm. We were quite comfortable swimming. This was our second visit to HMC. In our opinion, this is the finest private cruise line island. I hope you get to visit.

You can also wait till you get to HMC and schedule your excursion there. there is a booth about 100 feet from the tender dock for that. We've always had great weather in march at HMC but I understand sometimes in the spring months they cannot tender in due to rough seas and they skip the stop.

I agree with snownyet, you can book this excursion at HMC. They list several different times throughout the day (you can check the forecast for the Bahamas online or on the Weather Channel) BTW, we did the 10:30 snorkel excursion last November and it was fantastic! I highly recommend bringing along an underwater camera. (you can get one at Walmart, Walgreens or CVS for about $9.00) You will not be disappointed. The water was crystal clear.
