Hi All
Just wondering how competitive the duty free prices are onboard? For example Digital Cameras and alcohol. Did you purchase beforehand or onboard?

Don't know about cameras but if you are going to Vila wait until you get there - its half the price as the shop on the ships. We were totally amazed. The best shop is the very last one on the left hand side as you walk down the street. You pay for it, give them your details and they deliver it to the ship for you. The Duty Free shops are a little more expensive than the ship from experience. :D Mummsie

Hi leggyliz, the price of duty free alcohol on ship varies, depending where ship is sailing. Going to Vila etc, prices come down,if you go just up the coast to Port Douglas etc there is no competition so prices are higher. As previous CC mentioned, in Vila go to the end of Main Street. left hand side, take a copy of onboard price list with you to check .
they usually are a lot cheaper , than on ship or any other duty free outlet.
Regarding the digital camera, if buying ashore, make sure it is covered by an Australian warranty (as some are not.)
kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)

There was a very limited choice of cameras on the Sun in September and very little in Villa. You would be better off buying your camera in Australia in the 28 days before you leave then claiming the tax back-then you get the warranty, can take advantage of specials, and get exactly what you want.

We found that the alcohol in Vila was only $1-$2 cheaper than on board, and by the time you factor in your $10 each way taxi fare it works out cheaper to buy on board. On our cruise they had a "two for $30" special on board for 1 litre bottles of Bacardi etc.

Hi again Leggyliz,
I forgot to add the name of duty free shop in Vila.
(Fung Kwei.)
nearly everyone gets off ship in Vila. even just to look at the place.. you can get the Taxi, or the cheaper mini bus that lets you off near the Post Office then walk.
kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)

Thanks for all your info. I'll probably end up buying before hand and claim back.
