My wife and I are flying from Maui to Venice for the Venice to Athens cruise on october 10th. Oceania is arranging the flights, Does anyone know what airlines Oceania uses? Hoping for some legs of the trip to be on American so we can rack up some miles.
Thanks
Ryan

Hi: We're on the Aug. 31st cruise as well. Did you sign up for the free Yahoo/Oceania party? Look forward to meeting all our Internet pen pals.

I am not sure you can receive FF miles from cruise ship arranged flights ( but I am sure someone knows the answer here for sure)..
I know that if the ship uses an airline that you have FF miles with- you can't upgrade the ticket.

According to the Oceania web site, the awarding of mileage for air provided the cruise line is at the discretion of the airline. In other words, you may or may not get mileage. My only experience has been with Radisson and Windstar. In those case, Northwest, Delta and United all awarded mileage. Particularly if it is "free" air, Oceania may have negotiated deals with the airlines that don't provide for mileage.

I have always used the air provided by cruise lines and have always received U. S. Airways frequent flyer miles. Don't know about other carriers.

I nevr use the cruise lines to book air. I always buy an economy ticket and use FF miles to upgrade to Business or First Class. This makes those long 10 or 12 hour flights much more comfortable.

In our case, Oceania's free air did give us United Airline milage points. However, the free air seats were at "bulk rate" and therefore "not upgradable". If you definitely want to "upgrade", you'll have to pay as many points as if you are getting the business class ticket from scratch! We therefore endured through economy class of ten hours each way. Except for some numbness in the legs and slight soreness in the back and the behind which recovered after a few hours, we were fine!

LOUM: Hope you have a good hour and a half of transfer time in Paris. That was one slow, confusing airport! Passport control took a LONG TIME...and Charles de Gaulle isn't marked too well!

The tentative schedule I got from my travel agent is Lufthansa Newark to Venice with short layover in Frankfurt and return Athens to Newark with British Airway& long 4 hour layover at Heathrow London, I believe you can spend the time in London at the duty free shops. I have not been there for a while but there used to be a lot of shopping at Heathrow? Elyilona

My wife and I are also on the 31 August cruise, but we have an air deviation since we are spending a week in Venice before the cruise. We are flying on Lufthansa from JFK, transferring at Frankfurt and returning the same way. There are no direct flights from the U. S. A. to Venice. If you think the Paris airport is confusing, wait until you see Frankfurt. it is in a continual state of reconstruction.

But, the shopping is fantastic there.. at least while you get lost you have something to do!
