Just read an article today that Vegas has changed their rules to severely favor the house. Anyone know if HAL manipulates the rules or uses traditional rules?

I can't remember where I saw this, but I read somewhere that there is an industry trade organization called (I think) the ICCL (International Consortium of Cruise Lines), that Carnival and all of its subsidiaries belong to. The ICCL has rules for running shipboard casinos. One of those rules is that games must be played according to the rules used in Vegas, London or Atlantic City, all of which have laws that codify the rules of the games.

I'm not sure which of those rules HAL uses, although they do have 00 on their roulette tables, which is an American thing, so I'm guessing that they use Vegas rules. After all, Vegas rules are probably the most familiar to American gamblers.

But then, I could be wrong...

If they follow Vegas rules, then do they comp your drinks while you are gambling?

I believe you are talking about the 6 for 5 for a bj instead of the traditional 7.5 for 5. Some strip casino are now hitting Soft 17's (Ace and a 6) like most of the rest of Nevada. Both favor the casino but 6 for 5 is TOO much for the house.

On my last cruise HAL was paying 7.5 for 5 (also called 3 for 2).
The rules were like AC where dealer stands on ALL 17's.

DO NOT play at a table where the BJ's play less than 3 for 2.

PS Why do more players on ships seem to split 10's than anywhere else???

A single deck BJ table pays 6-5 for a BJ. A 6-8 deck table pays 3-2 on HAL, and dealers stand on all 17's. Craps pay 2 times odds on HAL. On RCCL dealers hit a soft 17 and craps table is only 1 time odds. Hope this helped you.

Thanks for this info. I am a BJ player and can't recall ever seeing a single deck game. Are these rules (2x odds on craps and single deck BJ) something new. I was on the Noordam in Jan. of this year and must have missed it.

The 2x odds on craps has always been there.
