Ok, I'm totally confused.

I thought I had this all planned out. We will be in Costa Maya our last day, before heading for home. We had read, and read, and read and had decided on Tequilla Beach. Even though it will cost more/less about $110 for our family of four (three non-drinkers) to spend the day at the beach. This amount does not included getting there and back. I just read a posting from somone who says that her family of three went to Mahajal (sp) and spent $40 (non including transportation to and from) for the day!!!!!!!!!! She indicated they offered the same things as Tequilla Beach, food, drinks, lounge chairs, massages, wave runner rentals and snorkle adventures. She mentioned the Cat's Meow as being the restaurant. I'm so confused. Did they go to a public beach that might have been free, and the only expense was at the Cat's Meow? She also mentioned a girl at the window collecting $3.00 pp. Ahhhh. Someone set me straight. The difference in the price is unbelieve not to check into. Please help!:(

Tequila Beach Club is just up the beach from the village and the cost to get there from the pier is exactly the same ($3.00 per person). We took a bus from the pier with a lot of other people and my DH got off at Tequila Beach Club because he had arranged to go horseriding and TB is the jump-off point for tours. I stayed on the bus for another 2 minutes and went to the village. So I can't give you much info on the TB facilities however the Village is quaint and you can negotiate just about any price to get chairs, massages, beer, food etc. The beach is lovely.
When my DH came back from horse riding; he walked over to the Village and enjoyed a nice massage by the beach.
The taxi fare back to the cruise is $2.00 per person.
You could just wait till you get to Costa Maya and take the bus/taxi to the village and check it out.
Is this your first visit to Costa Maya? If so, you might just enjoy using the facilities at the Pier -- two saltwater pools, lots of lounge chairs, swim up bar, lots of shops, places to eat -- all facilities are free just pay for whatever you eat/drink.

I haven't been to Tequila Beach so can't comment on what they offer. We went on the ruins tour and then stopped at Majahual afterwords for a while. It is a very pretty beach with trees, hammocks, chairs, wave runners, massage tables, etc. We didn't swim there, but I have heard the water can be grassy. A road runs right along the beach and has shops, cafes (such as The Cats Meow), stands selling trinkets and outdoor bars/cafes. The beach is free; someone who stayed longer will have to tell you if you rent chairs or not. I think the food, massages, wave runners, snorkeling trips, etc. are probably quite reasonable.

You can get a bus or taxi by going through the port village out to the street where there is a window that sells bus tickets--$3. Taxis are the same.

The area right around the ship is nice also, if kind of homogenized, that is you don't experience the real ambience of the area; it has a large pool, swim up bar, lots of shops, etc. I would prefer Majahual myself.

If you don't drink alcohol, the Tequila beach pass costs less, it is the "first mates" pass,

First Mate’s Pass

Adult pass all day
Non-alcoholic drinks
Mexican snacks
All club benefits

it is $25...write in about cruise critic and you may get additional discount

I have also heard good things about Cat's Meow...they are apparently all pretty much in walking distance of each other.

Tequila Beach is more of a ? beach club from the pictures I have seen, where Cat's Meow is a restaurant /with outdoor tables and chairs, and beach loungers where they can serve you. It gets good reviews

Tequilla beach does have lockers and changing room, and looks to be somewhat larger.

Costa Maya seems like an "easy" and nice port.
