How strenuous are walking excursions with HAL's "three men walking" icon? We're done"2-men" ones with no problems, but are signed up for 3 European excursions with quite a bit of walking and rated "3-men". (Excursions are Cadiz walking tour, St. Paul de Vence, and a walking tour of Dubrovik. )

Jemima, we've done both the Cadiz and Dubrovnik walking tour and had some folks "of age" plus "somewhat out of shape" in both of our groups. They had no problems keeping up. Both walking tours have lots of stops (no stair climbing) where the guides are pointing out and explaining about local sights. You see a lot. I would recommend both

Along these lines--I am going on a med. cruise with HAL this summer, and was wondering if anyone knows of a good source for finding reviews of individual excursions offered by HAL and which are the best ones to take. Any suggestions?

We haven't been on those particular tours, but looking at a couple of "3-men" ones we have been on I think they were overrated as far as strenuousness. One had quite a bit of distance, but no particularly difficult spots that I can reall. One had a relatively long flight of stairs.

Have you tried reading the Ports - Europe - Mediterranean forum? Or asking questions over there?

We always go with the 'three men' tours and have never ended up out of breath. I think it's their way of saying you have to get out of your seat and move around. I hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise!:)

I have been to St. Paul de Vence. A very interesting, at least to me, medieval village that now has many shops with lots of interesting craft items available. There is alot of walking from where the tour buses park and it is uphill. (Of course, its downhill upon leaving the village.) Wear good walking shoes (I am currently using cross-training shoes for walking and find them to be superior for my feet than just regular walking shoes) and you should be fine.
Once aboard the ship, one can always ask at the Shore Excursion desk if there are questions about the suitability of a tour for one's own physical condition.

Jemima, I've done this excursionbefore and really liked it. We had a couple who used canes, and they had no had noticable problems. You can wander on your own if you like in the village, so you can choose what works for you. You just need good walking shoes. I loved the village.
