View Full Version : Okay, just to be SURE I'm doing this right . . .

We're sailing this Saturday on the Oosterdam in a SY guarantee, and we still don't have a room assignement . . . at least I don't think we do. :o I read here that the thing to do is go to the HAL website and click on the immigration form link, then log in and look at your sailing info. That's what I've been doing, and this is what I get:
Departure Date: Saturday Mar 03, 2007
Ship: ms Oosterdam
Stateroom: GUAR
Embarkation: San Diego, California
Disembarkation: San Diego, California
I assume that once our cabin has been assigned, it will show here instead of the "GUAR," but I just thought I'd double check and make sure I wasn't missing something or looking in the wrong place. It certainly wouldn't be the end of the world to just fill out our luggage tags at the pier, but I do like to get the feel of the deck plans beforehand, based on our cabin location as "ground zero."
Anyway, if there's something I'm missing or doing wrong, would somebody kindly point it out? Thanks! :)

You should receive your cabin confirmation before you sail, but if you are OCD like me when it comes to cruising, there is no harm in calling the toll free number and inquiring as to your status. :)

You are doing it right. Unfortunately they just have not assigned yours yet. I would keep checking all the way up till you go. Don't you love the suspense:D
Who knows you could get a great big surpise that will be wonderful once you get to the pier;)

Maybe they want to surprise you with an upgrade!!

Mademoisselle/Madame (I'm assuming) Croisiere, I'll give you my long-time TA's interpretation of your situation. She always tells me if they haven't given you a room number yet, life is good because that means you're still in the running for an upgrade. The later, the better since you are guaranteed a cabin in your paygrade. So here's to hoping you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get to check-in.
No worries about the bag tags. They (HAL) will have your finalized cabin number at the pier and someone from HAL is/will be designated to write it on your tags so they are delivered to the correct cabin. Enjoy the one and three quarter (almost:rolleyes: ) pod wonder and have a great cruise!

Thanks everybody for your encouraging words. :) I think I'll adopt that strategy: every time I go back to check, I'll tell myself I'm hoping not to see a room number, because that means our category keeps climbing!

I can "feel" a big upgrade coming. Please come back after you sail, and let me know if my 6th sense is accurate.

There are about 3 or 4 people on our Roll Call for the 3/3 sailing who also booked the SY GTY, they have yet to be assigned as well.
We booked SC GTY and received a nice SA, so we're happy. :)

The only thing I would add is to hit the F5 key after the immigration form comes up. (assuming a windows computer). If you don't have the browser set to always check for webpage updates, it may load a page from memory. F5 will refresh the page to the newest information.

Laura....
(I've changed my font for this message as I really want you to know how much I mean it. :D )
YOU ARE KILLING ME flying that fabulous orange HAL flag. I LOVE those 'former' orange flags and would have killed to get one of the small tender ones before they changed colors. :(

FWIW -- the F5 trick also works with FireFox on Linux

I just might be able to help you out with that... I actually have two of the tender sized flags. :)

la croisiere--I am also on the 3/3 Oosterdam cruise as is ekerrr. Please come join us on our roll call on the HAL roll call boards. Though it's only a few days away, would love to have you join us. Hope to see you on Saturday and our get together on Sunday with some of the ship's senior staff.

UPDATE !!! :)
We finally have our cabin assignment, and it's a SS. Not quite the mega-upgrade (i.e. SA-SC) it could have been, but we'll take it! :) We definitely enjoy being just a flight of stairs away from the Lido deck.
Any other benefits to SS as opposed to SY?
