I think that may be the port where you can go up the Copper Canyon by train?

Hubby and I will be sailing on the Holland America Ryndam from San Diego, where we live up the Sea of Cortez, with a stop in Topolobampo. Here is one of the sights I found about the port. http://www.apitopo.com.mx/ingles/introduccion.htm
You didn't mention which ship you will be taking the repo on, but if you go into the web sight and look under excursions for your cruise line, I'm sure you will see a few for this port. And yes, it is the starting point for the Copper Canyon tour, which is approx 11-12 hours long. Not something we are going to do as long tours just aren't for us. However since we have never visited this port in our previous two cruises on this route, I will be interested to see an overview of the port and city.

Sheila, when are you going? We'll be on the Ryndam, leaving October 31 for the Sea of Cortez. I need to check the Roll Call, I know.

Linda, we are going April 22, 2007, not too far away now. I am really excited to be sailing on the Ryndam for a second time. Our first time was their very first visit up the Sea of Cortez and to Loreto, back in 2001. Prior to that we sailed her Sister, the Statendam 3 times and liked her so much, was just elated that the Ryndam was laid out just the same.
The reason for this sailing is that we got a mailing from a TA we had booked with prior with some good prices and also we had never been to Topolobampo, so I thought it was time to cruise our old friend the Ryndam once again. I'm just sorry that the Statendam has headed to Australia and they have replaced her with the Oosterdam, as we sailed it on New Year's a year ago and although most seem to like the "O", I did not like the lay out at all, so will not be sailing on it again. It's a good fit for some, but just not my style. I like more of an open ship, public areas, such as the Ryndam.
Sorry we aren't sailing with you. We have a roll call started, but it hasn't garnered much attention, as on our past cruises, on other lines.
Have a good cruise, I know you will like both the Ryndam, if you haven't sailed her before and the itinerary, if you like Mexico as much as we do. Of course it could have a little to do with we only live 20 minutes from the port.:)

We did stop in Topolobampo in December on the Zanndam. It is the starting point for the Copper Canyon Tour, while we did not take it those that we spoke with enjoyed it but they left at about 5AM and did not return until around 10PM. We did the bay, birds and dolphins and enjoyed that tour.
If you are considering the Copper Canyon Tour you might want to sign up ahead of time. When we boarded the tour was already sold out.

We highly recommend the Copper Canyon tour. We did this tour October/2005 on the RYNDAM. They had breakfast for us in the LIDO at 4:30 am. There were about 385 of us. We left the ship around 5:30 am and boarded our buses. There was a police escort for us so the buses were really "moving" to make it to the train station. The scenery on the train trip was beautiful. We had ample time at the lookout site of the canyon and then had a very nice buffet lunch at the nearby hotel along with music/dancing by the natives. Then we boarded the train for the return trip. On the train refreshments (going and coming back) were included. We got back to the ship a little after 11:00 pm and the captain and cruise staff were there to welcome all of us back on board. It was a LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG day but well worth it.
