On the Dutch (St. Maarten) side.
Walk to the left from the little pier when facing the courthouse.
Check prices as you walk past Rams, Price Club and up to at least Splash. The jewelry stores often have good prices to lure you in for other purchases.
Then walk back and make your purchase at the cheapest shop that you found.
Note that some shops will REQUIRE cash, others give a discount for cash, and others a credit card will be fine.
If you end up back at the pier without your booze, there is a very nice shop out on the main road, at the entrance into the cruise pier area, called Philipsburg Liquor Store. It would be just past the entrance if you're walking back from town, or off to the RIGHT as you walk out to the entrance.
I have a picture posted here (http://gtaylor.tripod.com/sxm/).

The best prices we found were at Carribean ??? - go to the main street - turn left and about 2 city blocks, a small place on the left side - paid less than $6 for Absolut litres!.

You may be thinking of Caribbean Paradise? On the left, just before McDonalds, which is on the right.
I suggest that one checks there, as well, but use the strategy I posted earlier; walk out checking prices and then purchase on the return.

Although Ram's has the largest variety of liquor at low prices here are a few additional shops to check out:
* Ray's Jewelry (2 locations - 123 Front Street & just down from Touch of Gold Jewelry)
* Caribbean Paradise (diagonally across from McDonalds, will take credit cards for the liquor - you just have to ask).
* Divinitii Jewelers (cash only)
* Sangs Grocery (large new store across from Bobby's Marina between Cruiseship Terminal and Philipsburg)

Golden Gift Shop, which is located on Front Street, has a pretty good selection and good prices as well. I'm pretty sure they accept credit cards too.
Try the local-made rum called Madoudou, tourists love it!

Carib Paradise - that was it - we checked up and down main street and they had the best - but then I was only shopping for Absolut.
