If you are booking your cruise directly through P&O and you've cruised with them before, make sure you mention you are a past passenger.
I rang to get a quote today and was asked if I was a past passenger and was given the price.
When I rang back later to book, I wasn't asked if I was a past passenger, and the price I was quoted went up by $124 each. When I told them the price I was previously quoted the guy on the phone said 'oh, yeah I see, that's the past passenger price, you've sailed with us before have you?'
That's a $250 saving for us - that's our shore tours taken care of, or a number of cocktails.

Hmm.. very interesting. I may have to ring them to see what price they can do me on mine before i book elsewhere.
Oh and congrats on finally making the booking. I think this is the first time ive seen a countdown in your sig since i joined here.

Thanks Sam & Jarrod...
18 months is a long time between cruises for us. The first question friends ask us is "When's your next cruise?" Now we can answer them!!
We decided to have a break from cruise holidays and do the 2 week NZ trip at Christmas. We'd put off the NZ trip to do the last cruise - so figured we should really do it before we cruised again.

Yes, I'm glad we're going somewhere different - well for me at least... Martin has been to Lifou before (twice actually) and says that it's lovely.

Past passenger discount is typically around 40% off the full brochured price, where as the major specials are typically only 35%. However, we get quite a lot of specials which are 50+% off too.

Do you have to book through P&O to get the past passenger discount? We booked through a TA & we just got the 35% that is in the brochure.

No, TAs have access to the same fares as dealing with direct P&O. More so, as I mentioned before, some TAs have access to fares which P&O themselves do not sell or market. I would go into more detail but I believe this may contravene some of the rules of this board.

We asked our travel agent to get a quote for us - and the price they gave us was the brochure price with 35% off.... We got the 40% off price by booking directly through P&O, but even then only when I specifically asked.

If the TA didn't ask P&O they wouldn't have given it to them either! :)
You can have your Ta take over the booking if you like, same cost. And make sure they ask for your Past pax discount next time... or see another agent :P

We got a past passenger discount from P&O by accident.
The lady was quoting me fares and got all confused and I said "well that's cheaper than before" (I was writing them down everytime I spoke to someone). And she said "have you sailed with us before" and I said "no" and she said the correct answer is "yes". So I said very quickly "yes, someone in my party has travelled with you before - I forgot".
We laughed and I have the cheaper fare. :p
