Yes, it is official starting today the Oosterdam will now be docking at the new pier in Puerto Vallarta:) The crew on the Oosterdam are quite excited especially after Monday having a bad day tendering in Cabo. The seas were so rough that the swells were flooding the tender platform every few minutes making it extremely difficult to tender.

Excellent news, Lisa!

I'm glad to hear that the Oosterdam will now be able to dock at 2 out of the three ports on the itinerary.

That's great news Lisa. I've been reading in other threads that the dock area was getting close to being completed. I'm so glad we will get to us it in 7 days!

We docked in PV (sailing another brand) in January. Wonder why the Oosterdam hasn't been using that dock?

Which line, Jim? We're on the dawn Princess in a couple of weeks and we'll be tendering in PV....

Jim, this is a brand new pier that has just been completed that is large enough for the Oosterdam. There were 2 docks but one was small and only smaller ships could dock there meaning that the Carinal Pride would always get to dock on Wednesdays. There have been as many as 5 ships in port in PV at one time although it is rare there is usually 2 to 3. The new pier allows for a ship as large as the Oosterdam to now dock.

Dave, we were on the Diamond Princess. Cabo was our only tender port.

Carnival seems to always get the dock--senority, I guess (like HAL in Alaska.) Now that the new dock is finally available, two ships will be able to dock. On Wednesday. April 18th, we'll be in PV aboard the Golden Princess. That day the Carnival Pride and the Oosterdam will also be there. I wonder who'll get the docks that day and which ship will tender.

Interesting, as we're tendering in Cabo, PV and Zihuatenejo.....

Dave, I think it depends on what day of the week and how many ships are in PV. The Oosterdam is set to have the new third pier every Wednesday. It is possible Jim was there another day of the week when his ship was the only large ship in port. Dave I am guessing you are going a day when there are several most likely on a Wednesday when Carnival Pride and the Oosterdam will be in PV.

We'll be there on a Wednesday (the 28th) with the O'dam and the Carnival Pride. :( That's approx 6500 people - all trying to get a drink at Carlos & Charlies

I just got back yesterday off of the Oosterdam. It was very pleasant and convenient being able to dock in PV. There are actually two new docking piers immediately north of the original pier. These new piers are angled in toward each other like a V. When we were there on Wednesday, we were docked at the pier closest to the Pride. They were still finishing up the landscaping at our pier. As you look down from the ship you could see the new rolls of sod that was just put in and hadn't grown together again. The third pier immediately north of us still had dirt all around the cement walks, but there was a number of people starting to landscape that area which could be ready in a week, but allowing for Mexican time it might be a couple of more months. :) The dredging must be all finished since I didn't see any barges around scooping out the ocean bottom.

There was a bit of delay getting back onto the ship due to Mexican security. We go back onboard around 4:00pm and it took about 10 minutes in line. Those coming back on after 5:00 pm had a much longer line to wait in. We had to open up our shopping bags for their inspectors to check and we had to go through the metal detectors and show what we had in our pockets. I'm not sure what they were looking for, but my guess might be guns since metal detections seemed to be their concern.

How do you know if you are docking or tendering. We arrive on Wed April 25th on the Ryndam and have an early excursion. Sure would be nice to walk right off!

DH and I are on the Ryndam right now and we are in PV. We are docked at the new pier and NCL Star is next to us. We took a shore excursion this a.m. and yes, you need to allow enough time to get back on board as the Mexican authorities are checking all bags and purses. There are only two ships in port today (Sunday) and the shore excursion guide made a point of saying that the Oosterdam was the first to dock at the new pier last Wednesday.

On April 25 there will be four ships in port - a busy day.

The Ryndam and Radiance of the Seas are scheduled to come in @ 7:00 am. Carnival Pride is scheduled to come in @ 8:00 am, & Regal Princess arrives @ 9:30 am.
If the 3rd dock is open by then, the Ryndam will be docked for sure assuming all ships come in at their scheduled time.

Blazerbob - I'm not sure if the ships dock on a first come first serve basis. Last year we rented a villa in Vallarta for a month and from our balcony watched the ships arrive. We never could figure out why some that arrived early stayed in the harbor and started tendering and others that came later plowed by and right up to the dock.

The local Vallarta politicians worked very hard to get the new dock space and I'm sure that it'll pay off on the form of a lot more turism dollars.
