View Full Version : footwear for dining room

Am going to Alaska and would like to minimize packing of shoes. Obviously need dress shoes for formal nights, but was wondering if a man could get away with leather-upper rubber-soled Merrel mocs with khakis for the other nights.

My DH wouldn't choose to wear that sort of footwear to the dining room. Personally, I don't feel that shoe appropriate for a formal dining room such as are on HAL ships. It isn't such a big deal to pack one other loafer/casual shoe to wear in the evenings.

JMHO......

I couldn't care less what is on someone's feet. I'm not looking at anyone's shoes when I am seated at a table in the dining room. and everyone else has their feet under a table. I think the Merrells are just fine.

My thoughts exactly! I am beginning to think of Holland America as the fashion cruise. I'm afraid this isn't going to be my kind of ship:(

I think they're fine, too. My DH brought dress shoes and his loafers for the non-formal nights. But he could have just as easily brought his leather Merrell's.

I think shoes, for the most part, go unnoticed as Renee said.

I have plantar fasciitis, so wear Merrell's a lot. If anyone asks him, tell him to pass it off as a foot problem!

Please don't feel that way....there are many people on the HAL thread that feel your shoe choice is fine....including me.....nobody is going to look at your shoes when eating dinner....it's a casual shoe, for a casual evening. Enjoy your cruise.

I think Merrils are fine too. I have wide feet and also can't walk in heels anymore. I wear merril's all the time. They certainly go with country club casual.

The dress code doesn't mention shoes. We take shoes that sort of go with the dress of the evening, but don't worry about it. My feet don't agree with most shoes. I'm not about to hobble around or eat in agony. Also, I'm not going to overload the luggage with shoes.

mamaofami

I try to pack my wardrobe around one basic color so I have less shoes to pack. They are heavy and take up a lot of room. Still, between dress shoes, beach shoes, sandals, sneakers, casual shoes, it's a lot. So, one color packing is helpful.

I am also one of those who never notice what anyone is wearing on their feet when I am seated at the table in the Dining Room.

I don't know what Merrel mocs are but from your description they sound perfectly fine for both casual and informal evenings. The Alaskan cruises tend to be more informal than many others anyway since they are so port intensive and most people choose to save room in their luggage for heavier jackets and sweaters.

Trust me guys....

DON'T SWEAT IT.

Life onboard is MUCH DIFFERENT than posts on "Cruise Critic".

You'll gain some wonderful insight here, but if you let it happen, will become intimidated by the "old school" HAL posters.

You can see when that's happening... let it go in one ear and OUT THE OTHER.

Have a blast. :D Don't worry about how others feel about flippin' footwear!

A Merrill Moc looks like a suede loafer, minus the penny flap nonsense or tassel. It is fine for the 5 CASUAL evenings. I suspect more than half the men wear rubber-soled shoes on CASUAL nights.

As of now, gazing at my recently refreshed thread, there are 11 replies to "goin'toalaska" who asked an innocent question.

Out of these replies, 10 replies were either supportive or apathetic.

Hope that tells you something, OP. Have fun on your cruise. ;)

Ha, I don't even know what Merels are:o however, in Dutch, a merel is a song bird. So don't even think about putting birds on your feet 'cause you'll get in deep caca

Don't worry, the shoes sound fine for the 'country club' casual nights (there won't be informal by the time Alaska season starts). DH wears rubber-soled SAS shoes for the non-formal nights and unless anyone was on the floor looking at his shoes they would even be aware they are rubber-soled (and in that case they have more problems than what is on DH's feet  )

As a former shoe buyer for major department stores and sales director for the largest German shoe manufacturer, and a long time HAL cruiser I can say you're perfectly ok with wearing these shoes. On casual/informal nights these rubber soled shoes are great, I wear these types too, they also will prevent you from slipping in case of rough seas. On formal nights of course it's leather soles! Better dancing up in the Crow's nest, anyway!

Alaska - I had no clue what you were talking about so I googled Merrell shoes & found a couple of pix. Absolutely I think these would be fine with khakis on casual nights. Some of the mocs look a bit hiker-boot-type, but I don't think you're talking about those, are you?

Now that HAL is allowing jeans in the dining rooms, it's simply amazing the things folks throw on & define as "casual." Any more fashion questions - c'mon over to the fashion board. We're a friendly bunch. :)

I'll weigh in with all of the posters who said Merrills will be fine -I wholeheartedly agree. My DH wears boat shoes with his khaki's on casual nites. Please yourself in your footwear and be comfortable - no matter what anyone says. Remember - there is no shoe police to check your footwear.

Regarding jeans, the pre-cruise documents no longer say anything about jeans not being allowed.

Back on topic, for casual night wear whatever footwear is comfortable whether it's athletic shoes, sandals, hiking boots, Merrills or ... .

Dear OP:

While I can appreciate your concern, I can also say this in all honesty....

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, WITH A DOUBT.... NO ONE, NO ONE, NO ONE WILL CARE WHAT ANYONE WEARS ON BOARD! PERIOD!!

(and if for some small minded, stupid reason they do.... it's totally their problem, not yours!)

Be comfortable, look nice, relax, pack light, have fun, report back.

I'm reminded of a thread a few weeks ago when a woman complained that her husband decided she took too many shoes so he emptied them out without her knowing. She wound up wearing flip flops with her formal.
No one threw her overboard.

Shoes are a sore subject with me(no pun intended) because I have so much difficulty finding ones that fit and are comfortable. I pick comfort over fashion these days and figure if I lookg appropriate from the tip of my head to the bottom of my ankles, I've done the job.

Where do they sell these ballet type shoes you are talking about?

sail7seas
March 15th, 2007, 07:58 AM
Ballet flats are all over the place this spring. Any place that sells women's shoes has ballet flats. They range in price from $12 in the lower end department store type places to $250 for designer brands at Nordstroms and Saks. They come in every color you can imagine.

Hey, there are some people who wear fuzzy slippers -- even on formal night -- and no one knocks them! :p

I'm not sure what the big deal is over these shoes! I've seen men wearing shoes far more casual -- and there was nothing wrong with that.

That would be me. Given my shoe size (11) there is no way for me to pop into a store in port and buy off the rack. To tell you the truth, I was uncomfortable on the formal nights, but realized no one was pointing or staring at my feet.

The shoes the OP wants to wear are certainly appropriate with casual pants.
I don't wear jeans on cruises, my choice, but I do wear casual footware on casual nights -- including various flip-flops and Crocs.
DH also wears Crocs.
So far, I haven't seen a single person faint.

:o Well ... I didn't have a CLUE what a Merril Moc was either and was much relieved to see I wasn't alone.

I'll be honest ... other than formal nights, I haven't a clue what DH puts on his feet. And I'll go a step further and admit I have never noticed what one single man wears into the dining room on ANY evening.

Seriously, I'm focused on waist up and the chances are someone could come in barefoot, but if they looked great in every other way, I wouldn't notice;) (guess I'm clearly not a foot fetish person).

So my answer would be that if you took the time to worry it wasn't right, it probably is. Anyone who is going to be out of place in the dining room won't take the time to ask or worry if his/her choice is okay.

Especially when it's a Merril Moc which sounds pretty fancy to this low-style person:D :D .

I have to agree with the majority of the posts. We've also worn Crocs on casual night (the mary janes are my favorite). When the seas were high and the Lido pool water was splashing all over as we walked by, we were grateful that we had on non-skid soles....

Ok. You've got me. What are crocs? The people sitting at the table next to me on the Noordam were always dressed very well. On casual nights, the lady wore sandals. I couldn't help but notice because she was at the next table, but usually, who looks at feet when there are so many more interesting things to watch?

Anyway, in the dining room everyone is busy ordering, drinking, eating, and people watching, from the waist up.

Crocs are very comfortable. I found mine at a Hallmark store. You have to be careful though...there are a lot of immitations out there...none of which are nearly as comfy as the real crocs.

Here's a picture of the types I have. I noticed sandal crocs in the store just the other day.

I don't consider this discussion an "uproar". The OP was looking for opinions and got them. She obviously wondered if they would be appropriate and the majority feel they are.

I am personally disappointed that HAL now permits jeans in the dining room. I have seen what this relaxation of dress codes has caused to the evening ambiance on other lines; IMO, it's not a pretty picture:(.

We'll leave the jeans at home and continue to dress for dinner each evening, because we prefer to do so, whether on vacation or not.

Have you seen the new college Crocs? I have my OSU ones!

And now they have a deal with Disney -- you can get Crocs with little "Mickey" holes instead of round holes. At Disney you can buy little plastic characters, logos, etc. to snap into your Crocs. I have Tinkerbell on mine.

Crocs are perfect on a cruise ship. Desdemona is right -- there is no slipping on wet surfaces.

Thanks twinkletoes for posting that for mamofami! I was going to do that and got sidetracked.

We have a private pilot (female) who stays at our inn frequently, and in her off duty time, she always wears croc's. Says they're the most comfortable things she's ever worn!

My granddaughters, also, all have crocs and love them (they're 7 and under). DH has a pair that he wears on our boat. When you mentioned them, I was reminded that I was going to buy a pair for the cruise....and forgot.

How are they for walking on the decks (Lido, Promenade, etc.)?

Carol, I've looked at them in the stores and they seem nice and wide. I don't know if they are actually, when you try them on, but they appear that way. They sell them here in The Paper Store ~ a chain ~ there's probably one near you.

As someone else said, beware of the imitations!

They are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. I've gotten to the point that I wear them when we are traveling (even though I think they are ugly). They are easy to slip on and off (at the airport), and they are just so soft.

They are wide, but this isn't a problem. There is a piece that loops over the top, or you can pull it back and slip your foot into the Croc (this will then be behind your heel).

My daughter is a nursing student (and works in an OR) and she wears these all the time. She's on her feet for long periods of time, and she said they are the best. She also likes them because they are easy to clean.

My mom has a heel spur, and I gave her a pair of these. She was having a hard time wearing shoes, and this did the trick. She loves them.

But as you mentioned...you have to get the Crocs. The immitations aren't the same. They may look the same, but they don't feel the same.

About Crocs ... most of the styles are the ugliest shoes ever made but very comfortable. Personally I'm not nutty about the ones with straps. I have a pair of yellow ones I've never worn in my closet. They're a 9W ... anyone want them? They're the open toed ones (the Nile).

Anyone who wants them, email me. I'll send them. Right now they're collecting dust and they're like new.

But I love the Athens .. they are the best! Only trouble was they had no heel which I need. So just peeking at their website I see they now make one with some height ... going to order those immediately! Thanks for the reminder.

Have to say, though, that I would never wear them to dinner on a cruise:D

They are perfect for walking on deck--or anywhere. We've worn them to walk the *Race for the Cure* for the last 3 years in our hometown--we haven't worn sneakers since we found Crocs. We wore them when we did the *On Deck for the Cure* walk on the Volendam and they are great. Also great for excursions when you're doing any walking on uneven or wet surfaces.

I find the maryjanes completely acceptable for casual night in the dining room--they *dress up* a little more than the standard Beach model. Different strokes.....

Which model do you wear for walking the deck/"On Deck for the Cure"? I just looked at Crocs site and while I like the Athens (and will probably buy some), I don't think they're suitable for walking any considerable distance. I didn't like the look of Nile.

Talking about ugly shoes reminds me of the boots that came out a few years ago called UGHS. They are the most comfortable boots ever. They are named UGHS because they are so ugly that the manufacturer decided to give them that name. Too warm for the caribbean, but I saw some on deck in NY during the life boat drill. I don't usually look down at peoples' shoes, but walking with those vests on the stairs, it's a good idea to look down and make sure you don't trip over someone's undone straps.:(

nurseblissful, I also have a wide foot. Birkenstock was going to be my suggestion - but I also know they are very casual looking. You might try Nordstroms, they have some wide sizes. Also, I've had luck using a search engine for "women's shoes", finding wide sizes, if I see anything I like then search for that manufacturer to find out if there is a retail outlet near me.

Also, unbelievable, I found a great pair of wide dressy sandals at Payless & Walmart - I know! I have to look everywhere, since the possibilities are so limited. But hey, they looked great!

Good luck!

this is only for ladies with wide feet. i have a foot like fred flintstone. very short and almost as wide. i want a pair of black sandal type shoes with a little heel? any ideas girls? we leave in less than 2 weeks and i have 3 cute outfits with no shoes. i will not wear birkenstocks with these outfits. and i can't find a shoe that doesn't cause loss of circulation or that makes me walk funny. i am short and stout. lol. that was kind. i am round. but i want a nice shoe. any ideas? thanks, lauri

Go to a specialty shoe store and ask for Munro's! The photo is of some Munro sandals I found on-line for you. If that's not to your liking, try Ecco sandals. Cosmo II is the style.

Have never tried Croc's & like the Nile style..Plan on going to the Baths in Virgin Gorda & think they will be just fine for that..Also want to purchase them on-line as have purchased regular shoes on line & they normally fit...Unfortunately, I really like shoes & have lots of them..

Have a question for those who have worn the Croc's...

I normally wear a size 7 medium shoe..On printing out the Croc's size chart & placing my foot on the base of the scale, my toes reach size W-8...The 4 inch scale on the size chart states "make sure this area measures 4 inches when printed for accurate sizing" ..However, my printed scale actually measures 3 7/8...Do you think it will make a big difference in the size & does anyone know if Croc's normally run smaller than regular shoes?

Thanks..Betty

Betty....

I wear a size 6 1/2 - 7 medium (depending on the shoe) and I wear the crocs size "w 6-7 small" and my mother wears a 7-7 1/2 medium and she also wears the same size as I do.

My daughter wears an 8 or 8 1/2 medium and she wears the medium size Crocs (med-w-8 to 9).

We've bought the beach version, not the slimmer Cayman model (which looks like it comes in regular sizes (6-7-8 etc.)

If you'd like, I could run up to our local Hallmark store and try on the two different ones and see how they fit me, since we're about the same shoe size. If I had to guess, I'd say go with the size 7, but I'd be glad to go and try on the different types (and sizes).

Point of info, the "M" and the "W" on the bottom of the Crocs (and their size chart) does not stand for medium or wide. It stands for Men's and Women's sizes. Some Crocs are for both men and women. When they're not the bottom just says the letter "W" (for women) and the size (or "M" for men). All their widths are medium.

Betty, I found them pretty true to size. I wear anywhere from an 8 to a 9. I got the 8 in the Athens, but would take a 9 in a closed Crocs.

Twinkletoes...That's so very sweet of you to offer to do that for me but not necessary..Since you mentioned Hallmark, we have a large Hallmark store in Ft.Myers & I can try them on there..Thank you anyway..I'll probably order the size 7...Used to wear 6 1/2 but find the 7's much more comfortable as my feet have grown since I've been retired & wearing flats most of the time..LOL..

Heather, yes I realize the W stood for Women not wide..

Appreciate the info you've both given me..Thanks again for your help...

Happy cruising everyone..:) Betty

P.S. I tend to look a peoples shoes, because I love them so much..;)

serendipity1499...Besides Hallmark, I've noticed that some of the larger sporting goods stores carry Crocs. :)

Heather...I'd forgotten about the "men and women" sizes. The bottom of mine also say M-4-5, which I guess would be a man size shoe 4-5. Thanks for mentioning that. :)

Now that we've totally confused the OP............... :) (I don't think she's been back)

I'd heard folks talk about their crocs but didn't really know what they were talking about - gardening shoes maybe? Checked out that link tonight. OMG. I thought birkenstocks were ugly. Crocs go beyond ugly.

I like pretty clothes & I like to dress nicely - but not at the sacrifice of comfort. I also adore shoes. I DO look at what other people are wearing on their tooties - I wanna see what's out there. But none of my shoes are uncomfortable. And none of my shoes are ugly (at least I don't think so).

But, that's only my personal opinion. I can see how one might incorporate a pair of these into a casual night outfit. Sort of. Maybe. :o

They are ugly, IMO ... but they are also the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn (which came as a total surprise to me. A friend told me about them, and I just couldn't believe they were as comfortable as she said they were ... and they are).

I personally wouldn't wear them anywhere but around the house, running through airports, or shore excursions, but I did see a lot of people wearing them onboard the ship. :)

Hallmark carries Crocs????!!!! Not at ours! That is so weird:) .

I agree. Crocs are the ugliest shoes on the face of the earth and they're not for wearing in any kind of situation that you want to look really nice. But if you're looking for comfort only, they're great.

The thongs, however, really aren't ugly at all ... and they're about 100 times more comfortable than any other "flip-flop" on the face of the earth.

Are you talking Hallmark, as in the card store?

There's a store here, The Paper Store, and they carry Hallmark and lots of other stuff (they have a Vera Bradley section, a Yankee Candle section, etc.). They also sell Croc's!

They are a chain, although I don't know how extensive, so perhaps you can find one near you!

All I can say is, whoever invented Croc's is making a bundle!

Heather ...... By thongs are you referring to the Athens? I like those and am thinking of ordering them on line.

I'm still trying to find out the model that one of the posters said were so excellent for walking. She said she wore them for a long "Race for the Cure" and on the ships for "On Deck for the Cure". I'd love to learn which model that is.

You're welcome! I've not seen them in a regular Hallmark store but in The Paper Store. Do you have one near you?

Carol: I checked the crocs website and you can find them at Shoes 'N' More (?).

The website is crocs dot com. You can do a search using your zip code.

Why spend $5 more for shipping than necessary. ;)

Sorry to jump on here with my opinion---but---
I too love CROCS and just wanted to mention that on our last cruise while I was suffering in my dress shoes on formal night I noticed I lovely woman stroll by looking quite nice in her formal wear, right down to her sequin covered CROCS! I was green with envy! She was both stunning and comfortable!
Also, a tip for you CROCS lovers, when your CROCS start looking not quite as new and shiny, a sprtiz a ARMORAL will make them look like new again---but just on the outside ---inside it will make them slick!!:)

My Hallmark carried just a small selection of CROCS--before they left the mall all together--darn it! But I have found a place online that offers free shipping both ways that has very good prices---zappos dot com

Thanks to who ever mentioned about the Disney CROCS---I will be looking into those for the grandkids! I guess they are only available through Disney?

Isn't this board a fountain of info?

LOL When one of my daughters got married, she bought a pair of white keds and took some of the appliques that were on her gown and glued them on to the sneakers. (She got them when they shortened the gown). She wore the keds during the receptions and was very comfortable and had a great time.

The original Croc is the Beach. Cayman is the same style, but the site says more 'slender', which I presume means narrower.

You really have to try them on to understand how they feel and fit. They are not snuggly fitted on your foot, but are orthotic, skid-proof, and cool. So ugly I think they are cute.

Great view and lovely rooms. We like to take in the sights and shops on Las Olas in the afternoon and early evening and eat dinner at the hotel's outside cafe and watch the action on Las Olas. I bought a pair of these last fall for our cruise to Alaska. They kept my feet warm and comfy (I wore them with ACORN fleece soxs) and I got many comments on them. I packed them in my luggage (since they are harder to get on and off at the airport) for the return trip and discovered when I returned home that someone between there and home had acquired a slightly used pair of CROCS. So, it is true--everyone loves CROCS!!! They must have needed them more than I did! I am sure that they are enjoying them! They are lovely for the cooler weather with the heel enclosed.

We Saw a Man wearing (Blue) Jeans every night in the Dining room on our Prinsendam Cruise last April to the Amazon..He had a TUX on for Formal night..That was the first time we had ever seen Jeans in the DR..I normally don't remember what people are wearing, but he happened to be standing very close to us each night & had a very infectious smile...By the same token we had a Lady who was dressed to the Nines every night in beautiful formal gowns, sparkly dresses, boas, & sparkly shoes..A different formal outfit for the entire 25 days..She carried a cane & it was such fun watching come into the DR & Show lounge every night...

Also on the Ryndam this past November we saw many passengers in jeans on Casual Night..We even saw several younger folks come into the DR on Formal night without a Jacket but with very dressy shirts...

West Marine also carries Crocs.

I have several pair of Caymans. I also own the Nile and Athens styles, and a pair of maryjanes.
Be aware that some Crocs fit better than others.
The Crocs company has the shoes manufactured in various places.

For example, I wear size 7, and the Crocs I have that were manufactured in Colorado are women's 7. Those are Cayman, Athens and Nile models.
I have the marjanes, made in China, size 7.
I have the college logo ones [Go Buckeyes!] made in Colorado, size 6-7.
And the Disney Crocs, made in China, size 6-7.

I ordered two pair of Crocs online from the company and when they came they were way too wide. They were size 7, but they were made in Mexico.
We sent them back. The company rep my husband spoke with said there was a little quality control issue with sizes from different manufacturing plants.

All of the above Crocs were authentic -- not cheap knock-offs.

I wear mine all over Disney -- and we walk miles and miles. No sore spots on my feet after. I wear them to the beach, out walking the dog, etc.
I wear them when I do laps on the cruise ships. They are just perfect for that!

I think Crocs are a love/hate kind of thing. One of my sisters absolutely HATES them, as does one of my daughters.

They sure start conversations though, wherever you go!
I have a very dear friend who introduced me to them ... and I am forever grateful!

I truly do not think that those are the only two options.

I have plenty of shoes that are both good looking and comfortable enough to walk miles over cobblestones and anything else. These days there are more choices than ever.

I really do not like the look or fit of Crocs. I made myself try on a pair last week after reading all of the rave reviews. They run very wide and did not fit my feet at all.

Comparing Crocs with Cole Haans is like comparing apples and oranges. They are entirely different shoes, different material, entirely different fit and feel (Crocs aren't supposed to fit your feet like leather shoes), different look (like tennis shoes vs. 3" heels) and for different purposes. I have both and love both but would never ever be deciding between the 2 of them as to which pair to wear with the same outfit. I wouldn't garden or go to a pool in CH's nor would I wear Crocs out to dinner with my best slacks and blazers.

I guess the "Crocs in the dining room" folks are just a variation on the "Fuzzy slippers in the dining room" folks.
They're fun, they're comfortable ...
And they can spark conversation/debate:
"Oh, what IS she wearing on her feet? Some kind of plastic clog? Heavens! Arthur, get my smelling salts!"

I'll leave my fancier footwear [not going to drop names] in the cabin on casual nights, most of the time, in favor of Crocs. :)

Sail, if there's no place near you that you can try Crocs on, then Zappo's would be your best bet because there's no shipping/no return shipping. They have a few of the styles at a reasonable price.

I agree with the others that you cannot compare Crocs with any other shoe. They are unique. As to "fit", as someone said they don't exactly "fit":) . They're just good 'round the house, 'round the block, 'round the deck shoes. For me, though, I need the raised heel so I'm looking forward to ordering the Capri or Ithaca.

Another HUGE bonus to Crocs is they're almost lighter than air ... so they are fantastic for packiing!

Just came back from Nordstroms looking at crocs. They only carried the ballet slipper which was too narrow for me or the ones with holes. My toes got caught in the holes. I will have to look someplace else for the ones with no holes. ugly, yes, but very comfortable. i can see why people love them.

Carol,

I think the "one with holes" is the Caymen style...and the most popular. What style is the one w/o holes?

I will have to goi out tomorrow and try some....I've bought them for my grandkids, but never for myself!

innlady, go to crocs.com, click on "footwear" and you can see all the styles. There are several without holes.

You will also find them at zappos.com and other places mentioned here on this thread, but to see all the styles Crocs is your best bet.

I've been on 9 cruises and don't recall ever looking to see what shoes anyone was wearing!

Which model do you wear for walking the deck/"On Deck for the Cure"? I just looked at Crocs site and while I like the Athens (and will probably buy some), I don't think they're suitable for walking any considerable distance. I didn't like the look of Nile.

Good morning, Sail,

I was away from the board this weekend and just catching up. The style we wear while walking is the Beach model--their original style (4 years ago, when we started wearing them, their ONLY model :) ). My husband will not wear sandals but he loves his Crocs. Whenever we went to Disney World in the past I always did what was suggested by taking 2 pairs of sneakers and switching between them to avoid blisters--it never worked. I also developed blisters while doing the 5K walks no matter how expensive and well fitting the sneakers were. Since we discovered Crocs it has made walking long distances so much easier (especially in airports--no more trampled toes from other people's luggage, which used to happen when I wore sandals). They are also a dream to slip on/off during security. In the winter months here in the Midwest we wear them with socks (when not wearing our Crocs boots). Some people do prefer the Cayman because it is more size-specific--I have both and both styles work for me. I agree with Heather about the Athens (flip-flops). I've never cared for that style before but these are so comfortable. I wear the mary janes to work with my work trousers and they are completely acceptable. I'm definitely going to check out the new style with the heels.

As far as ordering from their website, I usually do it only when I need several pairs (for gifts or when a new style comes out). I believe if your order totals $100 or more the shipping is free. Otherwise I buy them at Dillards, Hallmark or a chain we have in the malls here called Coach House gifts.

Do anyone of you nice ladies wear your Caymans in the Caymans and, more specifically, do/did you wear them to Hell and back?;)

yes, and yes :D

Hi Dedemona......
Thanks for your great post. I have never looked for Crocs so have no idea what stores in our area may carry them.

We don't have Dillards in Massachusetts but I intend to try a Hallmark Store.

If not successful there, it's Zappos or Crocs. com. I'll try a Beach and an Athens model.

Of course, I'd prefer to be able to try them on before purchasing but both sites take returns so not a problem.

Let you know how I make out. :)

You can find stores which sell Crocs listed by Zip Code on the crocs.com website.

Thanks, I did that.

One two stores reasonably close to me to try. I think they might a smattering to try but would be very surprised if they had more than 1 or 2 styles.

:) Hopefully they'll have the two I wish to try.

On the other hand, if I want to go into the city, Boston has a ton of locations.

Well, I'm the proud owner of a pair of crocs. Unfortunately, as I was opening the car door, I smashed my finger between it and the side view mirror of the car parked next to me. it's now all balck and blue and swollen. the price of fashion.

Anyway, the lady in the store told me that the woman who invented those thingies the kids stuff in the holes was at home with her sick kids doing arts and crafts projects. She says she sold her company to Crocs for $20 million. She aslo suggested that HAL sell the crocs in their store.

Mamaofami, I was telling that story earlier in the thread. It was an amazing coincidence that her daughter ran into the CEO of Crocs at the local pool and he saw the Jibbitz on her Crocs. He asked her where she got them and she said her family made them! They already had a thriving internet business and could hardly keep up with the orders. So it was pretty exciting when Crocs bought them out. They run the business to this day so everyone is happy.

Just got back from lunch at a restaurant on the dunes here in So Florida and all the waitresses were running around in their Crocs. Couldn't help remembering this thread!!!

Now, why can't I come up with a creative idea to make millions? Can you imagine what the inventor of the pacifier made? Or the person who decided that suitcases should have wheels? I need an idea.

An update on my croc experience. On March 19th, when I bought my crocs, I slammed two fingers between my car door and the side view mirror of the adjacent car. I thought I had broken my little finger. Imagine my surprise, when I discovered that the nail on the next finger over had separated from the nail bed and a nasty little fungus had developed under it. That fungus has spread to nine of my fingers via the nail equipment used to do a manicure. My own equipment. So, as of now, I have to wear rubber gloves to bathe and do dishes and have to soak in vinegar and water mixture and use meds under the nails. And all of this for at least the next 6 weeks.

What price, crocs?

Carol!:) So are you saying if you hadn't gone to buy the Crocs you wouldn't have slammed your finger in the door???;)

You know what they say ... when it's your time, it's your time. Seriously, sorry you had that experience ... sometimes we can do the stupidest little thing and it grows into something huge. Hope you're better soon.

I finally ordered my Crocs Capris the other day and they should be here tomorrow ... I put it off until I could find them on a website that didn't charge for shipping or returning.

I hope I love them! They're so light to pop into my cruise suitcase!

Ok... I have to confess. On the second formal night, my feet were kind of swollen so I went in the dining room in my nice lace dress and my gold Mary Jane crocs! I tried to be really nonchalant about it but did catch a few people look down at my feet then do a double take. :o

Do you have a Dick's sporting goods store nearby? I noticed in their ad today that crocs are on sale this week. :)

Susan, when I saw your post I decided to check the internet for Dick's Sporting and I see the have free shipping and free return as well which is great. Doesn't work for me because I like the thong Crocs and they only carry the Athens, not the Capri. I already have the Athens.

But for Sail they do carry the Athens and the Beach.
