We are in the process of booking on cabin on the Rotterdam for a 16 day cruise. My question is we can get an outside cabin in the back of the ship we would rather be in the middle, there is one but it is inside, are the inside M cabins much smaller than the outside and do the inside have a couch. Help we need to decide.

There are no aft cabins on Rotterdam, that is cabins facing aft. Have you looked at the C or D category cabins? Is the ship completely full? I can't decide what your question is really asking. Have you checked the HAL websites to look at the deck plans to see the cabin layouts?
About the couch, some of the smaller insides do not have couches.

Is it labeled a "standard" or a "large" inside? If it's a "standard" you will need a shoehorn to get two people in there. If it's a "large", then it really isn't much smaller than an outside, and may be larger than the outsides on Lower Promenade. Yup!
If it's a "large" then there should be a couch/loveseat there.
I take insides all the time and have no problem with them. I also took insides when I cruised with a husband and guaranteed shares, so I have been in them with another person.

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the different cabins. The one the TA gave us was not in the middle of the ship it was FF 1936 and outside cabin, the next one is M 1860 and I am concern it will be very small. We were on the Granduer of the sea last month and the cabin was very small even though it was on the 7 deck. We were on a smiliar HAL ship in December and had and out side cabin and it was a good size for a 11 day cruise. Since our cruise is going to be 16 days we would like a couch in it for more comfort. That is why my questions about the insde cabins on the Dolphin deck.
Thank for any info you can share.

Normally the insides and outsides are the same size except the insides have no bathtub (hence, smaller bathroom, hence slightly smaller cabin, to the tune of 9 sq ft), but 1860 looks like an odd one. I have no idea what it's like so unless someone can inform definitively, I would avoid it.
1936 is kind of far aft but in my experience these R-class ships are rather stern-heavy which bizarrely, makes them more stable at the stern. (Your mileage may vary, but that's what I've found) In fact I would intentionally chose an aft cabin, though perhaps not quite this far aft.
If I were you I would stick with 1936. JMHO.

With a very few oddball exceptions, RVI's inside cabins are 182 sft and outside 196 sft. FF1936 is a quad. I haven't been inside one, but the overhead bunks might limit movement even when closed.
One oddball exception I'm personally familar with are some 182 sft outside cabins aft on LP deck. These are DD and HH categories. They were originally labeled I category designating them as Inside. I suspect Doug is correct that the difference in size between inside and outside is simply the lack of a tub. The actual living areas seem the same. This applies to the DD and HH cats as well.
If you have any doubts at all, your TA should either know or be able to find out. That is unless you booked with a 'do it yourself' online agency, then you're at the mercy of this board.:p
