First, I as suprised at how BIG my doc packet was. I have only sailed with Princess, RCI and Celebrity in the recent past and even for 6 people, the docs are basically in a big envelope. Because the HAL stuff is so beautifull presented in folios and contains so much information, I got a BIG fedex package. I must say that these are visually, the nicest docs I have gotten and also the most comprehensive. They are actually well written.
Tipping is addressed twice- in the know before you go and also in a seperate letter. Its pretty clear to me ! IF autotipping is taken off THEN the staff(waiter , steward) has to turn in any tips.
BIG surpise is that a jacket and tie is suitable for formal nights according to p16.
" Gentleman: Although Business suits or tuxedos are suggested attire for formal evenings, they are not required, You are welcome to wear a jacket and tie on formal nights.":
I was planning on having DH bring a tux but dear son, who is 16 will be really happy with the news.

Congratulations on getting your documents, and thanks for the update on the tipping and dress code issues.

Jacqueline - Did you do the doc dance???? You must do the doc dance :).
Isn't the portfolio nice. It was a wonderful surprise to me too when I cruised last month. It's very functional too.
Have a wonderful cruise!

Isn't the portfolio very nice? I love them. Sometimes we get two --one for Christopher, one for myself -- sometimes just one. If it's only one, we take an old one and use it so each can have his own portfolio.
You noted regarding Formal Night Dress Code:
BIG surpise is that a jacket and tie is suitable for formal nights according to p16.
"Gentleman: Although Business suits or tuxedos are suggested attire for formal evenings, they are not required, You are welcome to wear a jacket and tie on formal nights."
Although one never would have been able to tell it here by the NOISE that is often made by both sides on this issue, the Know Before You Go Booklet has stated the above for at least 10 years. In short, it doesn't reflect a recent change in the Dress Code. A jacket and tie is, and has long been, within the Formal Night Dress Code guidelines. What some people would like (in terms of more Formal -- or less) may be one thing, but what the Dress Code itself says is clear. It's also official.

Yes, the folios are a touch of class compared to other lines' delivery. It's that same touch of class that makes HAL a cut above, IMO.

Jacqueline, I agree with Marie you must do the Document Dance. The day you recieve docs is the 2nd step to the excitement of going on a cruise. (The first being the day you book the cruise) I personally don't count the day you pay finale payment. The day your documents arrive brings it all into reality that you are actually going. I agree HAL's package is really nice.
Enjoy you dance.

Thanks for all the good wishes. What a nice group of people !
Rev - I was afraid to post on the board about my son wearing a jacket and tie, so you got that right. I am suprised that HAL has had this policy for so long ! At least its not going to be pointed at by some as one more bellweather of HAL going downmarket.
