In reading through the various threads about the retrofit, I'm still concerned and unclear about one fact. After the retrofit, will the Aft VA cabins on the Navigation Deck (Deck 8) still be completely covered so that people in the Aft Lido Pool area cannot see us if we are on our Veranda? I know from other decks verandas will still be visible, but not sure if this is changing on the Navigation. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

Based on what I've read, I think the Westerdam Deck 8 aft verandahs will still be fully covered after the retrofit. As I understand it, the Noordam Deck 8 verandahs are fully covered, and the Westerdam ones should look pretty much like the Noordam ones after the retrofit. I would think that if there is any change to the Deck 8 verandahs on Westerdam, they will be more covered rather than less, since the Lido deck is being extended overhead.
Frankly, I'd rather trade off some privacy for some sun, but that's just me. From what I understand, the post-retrofit Westerdam aft verandahs on Decks 5-7 will be less deep, and will offer more privacy than before, and less sun, though they will still have some of each. The corner aft cabins with the wraparound verandahs will continue to have a choice of privacy or sun, depending on where you sit, but those are pricier.
Also, there is one negative thing that I've heard about the Deck 8 verandahs (forget if this was from Noordam or Westerdam or both), which is that you may get more noise from the Lido deck, possibly including scraping of deck chairs on your ceiling. Something to think about.

The aft verandas on the Westerdam are only partially covered. We were in 5186 on the port corner and only the wrap-around port veranda is completely covered. The smaller veranda cabins to the left of ours (looking out on the wake) had the same 2 ft of coverage that ours did. From what I have read the stern will not be as cantilevered which should give more privacy but alas no more roof space than before. You can see the pix on page 4 of this link.
