Does anyone know if HAL has abandoned booking a big band on transatlantics? We had such a great time dancing on our T/A on the Noordam a year ago....

I don't know if HAL still has them or not, but I do know that they are getting fewer and fewer. Once upon a time---not that many years ago, either---every trans-Atlantic was a Big Band cruise. It's a shame 'cause they were such fun. :(

Our October TA on the Westerdam is not listed as a big band cruise. The HAL Europe brochure used to tag the Big Band cruises with little icons and I don't see ANY this year (2007).

I don't know about HAL's future plans for big band theme cruises, but on our September 2006 trans-Atlantic cruise on the Noordam, we had a great dance band on-board. I think the ship was sold-out and there were a lot of folks dancing each night up in the Crow's Nest. It sure looked like such a cruise is very popular. I hope HAL continues with big band cruises.

Thanks, folks, for your thoughts - we also thought that the Big Band cruise was the best of the HAL cruises we've taken....

A few years back we enjoyed a big band cruise on the former Westerdam with the Tommy Dorsey orchestra. Would really enjoy a big band cruise on the Noordam out of New York.

I'm afraid our generation is dying out and the most we can hope for now is that the ship's band has one big band night during the average cruise.
