Note that I've copied this thread from the "What Ever Happened To...?" (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56) forum as no doubt it will be of interest here as well for those who remember ROTTERDAM (V).

I never had the pleasure of sailing in her (my father and grandparents did) but I am looking forward to seeing her someday in her new role as a floating hotel/museum at Rotterdam.

We sailed on her many times and loved everyone of our trips. She was an elegant lady. So glad that she will survive and not be sent to Alang.

Doug - would you know if they have a Cam in Gibraltor. I would like to see her arrival. Probably they don't.

Wasn't the Rembrandt with the old Premier line for awhile? I think I've been on her, as I remember having to step over the doorway into our cabin. Senior moment, here....

Yes she was, but just for a year or two and then Premier went bankrupt and the was laid up in Freeport.

Doug - would you know if they have a Cam in Gibraltor. I would like to see her arrival.I don't know but I suppose that they haven't got one. However I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of photos from Willem and others. This is a very big event for ROTTERDAM fans! (I'm as much of a ROTTERDAM fan as one can be without having been on her, though my father and grandparents have been.)

As for being with Premier, she was. We were vaguely toying with the idea of going on her in that last summer season in 2000 when she was based at New York (the most recent time I've seen her; I'm very glad that it won't be the last) but we didn't. I wish we had, though. I know a lot of people (many who had been loyal pax with her as a HAL ship) who did, and loved her.

One guy was on her in her first season as a Premier (in 1998) and said he was served tea on an Art Deco silver-plate HAL tea set from the 1930s. I was quite stunned as I would have thought HAL would have taken off such valuable items for safe-keeping, they'd make a wonderful display as part of an HAL ship's art collection!

I imagine many such forgotten artifacts probably remain on her and it will be interesting to see what turns up.

Oh, I remember when Premier went bankrupt! I think I went on her in either 1999 or 2000...cruised to Mexico/Costa Maya. Great deal for the four of us!

Now that's funny.Yes, a rather ironic name I think.

But then Chandris used to name their ships in a similar fashion... For instance, there was the ELLINIS ("Greek maiden" - suitably named), AUSTRALIS ("Australian maiden"), AMERIKANIS ("American maiden"), and so on. Of course they were all Greek ships though in former lives they were various other things.

We were sorry to see this ship leave the fleet. It was our all time favorite. We have many happy memories of cruises taken on this ship.
