.....is all I ask for! We will be there in July and will be the only (yay!) ship in port that day! I was thinking of the Baths but I really just want to hang out on a beach with a few drinks and watch my 7yo son play in the sand! We will be snorkeling in St Thomas 2 days before, on an Eco tour in Antigua the day before and I think a little vacation on our vacation will be warrented by then:D .

I've seen all of the prior posts about beaches, but I'd like to know the least crowded one with my *wishes* above. Thanks for your valuable info! :)

Sorry, but to meet your requirements all in one place you'll pretty much have to go where the crowd goes, Cane Garden Bay.

I was afraid of that! How crowded will it be with only one ship in port that day? I'd consider just a beach and bar:D

Are there any convienence *sp* stores at the dock where I could load a cooler up to go to an out of the crowd beach?

With one ship in port CGB will not be terrible, especially if you move down toward the end of the beach in either direction.

There is a bar/restuarant at Brewer's Bay called Nicole's but it is located at the far left end of the beach. It would not be good for watching your child in the water while having a couple of drinks as I would imagine you want to keep the little one close at hand. You could always walk back and forth if someone is with you.

Not far from the dock in Road Town is Bobby's Market. You could fill up your cooler there.

Thank you so much! Is there a website for Tortola's beaches that you would recommend?

I just looked at your personal photos and I want to know where White Bay is! And Foxy's! Those look like my kind of places!

I just can't imagine being an islander from birth. Do they know how beautiful their island is? I know they know b/c we tell them all the time, but do they "KNOW"?

Thank you for your info. You are the greatest!

We are sailing the Liberty this Saturday- while I have a teen, we "so far" plan on Cane garden Bay- will get a report on it for you, plus will be able to answer other questions about Liberty.

White Bay is on the island of Jost Van Dyke. Foxy's is also on JVD and is located in Great Harbor. I don't know how long your ship is in port but to get to JVD you would need to taxi to West End, Tortola and take a ferry to Great Harbor, JVD.

The ferry is $20 per person Round trip (adults) $10 per child (5-11) I would guess a taxi is similar in cost but that is only a guess. I don't use taxis, do my own driving, but renting a car probably wouldn't work for a short trip.

I think the BVI natives 'know' how beautiful their islands are. ;)

Vital1, We are on the same cruise with you and are planning on going to Brewer's Bay that day. It just looked like it would be a nice quiet place to relax for the day. We are also doing an eco tour with Antigua Paddles the day before and going to Trunk Bay when we hit St. Thomas. We will be relaxing and spending a good deal of time laying in the sun and snorkeling with our 7 & 8 year old that day.

We are only in port from 0700-330:( . I've read others on the same itenerary skipped Nassau, had longer in Tortola and had an extra day at sea. One can only hope:) . I don't care for Nassau at all. Will that be enough time to go to JVD?

I'm so glad they are appreciative of their islands. I've been to some of the most beautiful places and the locals just shrug it off and say, "yeah, I guess so". I'd like to trade places with them for a week:p

Y'all sound like you are pretty much doing what we are! I'm doing Eli's Eco tour and we are hitting Francis Bay on St John as soon as we can get off of the boat! My dream is to see a sea turtle in the water and "swim" (not touching of course) with it. Researching St John, I think we have a better chance there. It's off the beaten path and not crowded. No facilities so fewer people.

I was thinking Brewer's Bay myself. Do you have boy/girl one of each? My 7 yo son would love to have someone his age to play with!:D

Vital,

If it's a Monday thru friday you will need to be able to get off the ship very quickly and catch a taxi to West End as the ferry leaves at 8 AM, then catch the 1 PM return ferry. Not a lot of time but it works.

If it's Saturday or Sunday the ferry from West End leaves at 9 AM but it's still the 1 PM return, less time on JVD but easier to make the morning run.

As for trading places, I still kick myself for turning down a job offer 5 years ago on Tortola, sometimes I am just so dense. :o

My son is 7 and my daughter is 8, they too would also like others to play with on the beach. We are bringing our own snorkeling gear so they can enjoy it as much as they want.

Bend over *kick*:D . I know what you mean. I had a job offer on St Thomas in the early 90's but didn't go b/c I was only 21 and couldn't find anyone to go with me. I'm a RN with ER/ICU experience. How are the hospitals in Tortola?

There is only one and it is located on Tortola. I have never been to that facility but friends tell me that if you have anything serious you need to get to San Juan and preferably back to the mainland. Several weeks after arriving home from the BVI a few years back I ended up being admitted to the hospital via emergency room and required major surgery. I was told that had my problem occured on Tortola and I could not get to a hospital elsewhere I probably would not have survived.
All of this is opinions of folks living on Tortola so it's hard for me to authenticate it without personal experience (which I prefer not to have).
