Just how cramped are they? We have 2 boys (14 and 17) and I'd like to get them their own cabin across the hall, but it's a big difference in price. I'm trying to see how tight a squeeze it would be for all of us in one cabin. It's funny but the next step up (I think SS?) suites don't come in quads!

What are the bed configurations for the 3rd and 4th pax in a quad veranda?

Thanks!

I wouldn't try it with two boys of that age! Just DW and I sometimes felt a little cramped in VAs. If you can't swing the verandah+inside, I would suggest you go for 2 insides, and plan on being out of the cabins whenever it's daylight. :D

Bed 3 is the sofa, which makes up as a bed. Bed 4 is above it, comes down from the ceiling.
If you've ever been in a verandah cabin, you picture this would be tight, but do-able.
What does make it cramped is traffic flow/competing for the bathroom when it's time to dress for dinner. That alley between the bed and the wall is pretty tight.
I've done that cabin twice with 3 adults. I'd only do it again with family (with who you can lay down frank and brutal bathroom ground rules).

Thanks Fannish, that's the info I was looking (and hoping) for. The bunkbed configuration works fine for us, much better than one queen or double sofabed, that we wouldn't be able to do...I have to think about this.

Actually the 3rd and eth pax rates on HAL went way up from last year, so maybe we'll just spend the extra money and get 2 cabins. It's about $700 more.

We did it with our 2 boys, then aged 13 and 15 in an outside on the Statendam to Alaska. It was fine...we all had a great time but we didn't spend much time in the cabin.

Last May we sailed in a quad VF (3rd & 4th pax sailed free) on the Noordam to Alaska. We have a 12 yr old daughter and 15 yr old son. It was cramped when the steward made up the sofa bed in the evening but we had a blast. We had late dinner so there was plenty of time for everyone to get ready. I'd do it again.

We've done it on the Zuiderdam and will be on the Noordam in March. I have two girls 13 and 9, I think having the balcony makes all the difference in the world. You can at least sit out there when someone else is showering or getting ready for dinner. Also, it will be key to keep the cabin neat.

The balcony is not going to accommodate seating all 4 passengers It's tight with three and someone has to move and get up to open the door.

With 4, I would opt for the inside, across the hall, just to have 2 bathrooms, if I could afford it. If not, as other have said, it's all about the rules for keeping the cabin tidy. The shoes alone are enough to trash a cabin.

I was just looking at deck plans for the Volendam, Veendam, and Ryndam and I see absolutely no quad veranda staterooms. Am I correct? We are a family of 4 and the kids are too young to be in their own room, but we really want a veranda for an Alaska cruise. Please tell me I'm wrong!!

I thought the 4th bed comes out of the ceiling above the head of the queen bed; not over the sofa. Above the sofa, there are cabinets that would get in the way.

I am also curious about the location of the upper berth in the Deluxe Verandah quad room....is it in fact above the sofa bed? Would love to see a photo if someone has one to share.

Happy Travels
