This will be my first cruise on HAL. On previous Princess cruises, the coffee from room service was so bad that I brought my own. Will that be necessary on the Westerdam?

Coffee from room service was very good on the Zaandam. I would assume that would be the same for the Westerdam. At least I would hope so since we are sailing her in December.:D

Do you also bring a coffee maker? If room service coffee was lousy I would run up to the Lido (coffee machines are great) and bring some back to my room before I would think of hauling a coffeemaker on board.

I've used one of those large thermo beverage cups in the early morning hours. Run up to the coffee area - fill up the thermo - grab 2 cups - and head back to the room. Coffee for two. Roo service is fine IF you know the night before when you are going to wake up or if you feel like waiting
Just a thought
Amen

:D I always take my own Blue Mountain coffee when ever I travel. I also carry my two cup coffee maker with me in hand luggage. Truly its very easy and not a problem:p

I know what you mean about the coffee on the Princess ships. I wasn`t sure if I was drinking coffee, tea, cocoa or gravy!! and to get a decent cup at the cafe, you had to shell out $2.95.
You wont find that the case on HAL, their coffee is quite good and if you are on the S class ships you can get specialty coffees free.....jean

There is a great product out, made by Folgers called coffee singles. They are like tea bags and easy to carry in your purse, pocket or whatever. If you don't like the ship's coffee just get a pot of hot water like they have for tea bags and make your own coffee. Much easier than carrying a coffee pot around.

I've seen those coffee singles but never tried them. Are they any good? Thanks.

Personally, I don't care for the coffee that is delivered from room service either. However, I find that the coffee that is dispensed through the coffee machines on the Lido Deck to be very good. Also, the coffee from Java Cafe is excellent.

I am now in the habit of packing a stainless steel travel mug with me. It's great for two main reasons. First, because I can fill it up, put the lid back on it, and return to my cabin without spilling it. Secondly, more importantly, I can enjoy it for a long period of time because it stays hot in those stainless steel mugs.

I personally wouldn't bother taking a coffee maker. I love good coffee, and I also know about the Princess stuff. HAL's is better. Besides, since I drink the swill they offer up at work, I can't be too picky otherwise! :D

They use the coffee syrup/concentrate on Princess which is as vile as it sounds.
I am happy to hear that the coffee is brewed on HAL !! YES.

I'm a hardcore coffee addict, Starbucks or Altogrande, maybe Blue Mountain .On my first cruise last winter, Veendam 3/27/04 brought my own coffee and coffee maker... not even unpacked! Coffee was WONDERFUL!

Thanks for the quick replies...In the past, while on Princess, I've brought my own stainless steel french press and my own coffee. Hopefully, the room service coffee will be better on the Westerdam!
