I saw a week or so back what channel to leave your radio on so you can hear all the ship announcements. Leaving on the Rotterdam next Thursday I meant to write it down so we are'nt sticking our heads out the door.

Can't remember about the Rotterdam -- its been a few years since we were on her.
On some ships it is channel 5 and others channel 4.

You cannot hear them through the radio on Zuiderdam or Noordam, so I assume that means all Vista ships. There is a method for emergency announcements to be heard in all cabins but regular annoucements not.

I do believe that there is also a TV station (varies by ship) that if you leave it on you will get the announcements -- it is not the date and time channel -- it is something like to bow cam or stern cam.
But I can definitely tell you, that if there is something important it will come on in all cabins whether or not you are tuned in. Can attest to that personally.

We were on the Ryndam 3/15-23 and tried every channel of the radio but could never get the announcements to come into the cabin. Had been on the Ryndam two times previously and always heard the announcements on channel 5. Have no idea why the change. Left the door open to hear the call for disembarkation.

I tried to get them on our radio on the Statendam last Nov. and couldn't find them either. When an announcement was being made we opened the door to hear it.

The radio station on the S and R class ships as of 2005 was #5. We left the radio on if we were going to spend time in the cabin. You could hear announcements on the outside decks but not very well on the verandas in midship cabins.
The Vista ships broadcast ship's announcements on TV channel 40 as there are no bed headboard controls for radio as on the S and Rs.
It's possible that since our Maasdam trip in '05 that all ship announcements are on TV.

I believe that when they did the SOE upgrades on Ryndam, they eliminated the feature for being able to hear the announcements in the cabins. Now that you mention it, when we were aboard Ryndam in April, DH opened the door (if we were in the cabin at the time) so he could hear Captain Consen's Daily Report from the Bridge. I seem to remember that on Maasdam, we could still hear reports through the radio.

I just mentioned it to my DW and she reminded me that when an announcement started, the cabin doors nearby all opened and we all stood in the hallway to listen and then chat about it. It was a way of meeting your neighbours. Good plan don't think.
