Seeing the post about a fun wish made me think about theme cruises. There don't seem to be too many of those any more, and I think they could be fun.
So tell us ... what would be your ideal theme cruise subject? For me, I'd love to have Tim (the Tool Man Taylor) Allen and Richard (Al Bourland) Karn -- and perhaps other cast members -- reunite for a "Tool Time" themed cruise. Home improvement demos (for real) during the day, and live "Tool Time" comedy sketches in the evening. Of course, classic "Tool Time" reruns would play on the stateroom televisions. I could take this much further, but won't for the sake of brevity.
How about you? What theme cruise would be your fantasy?

Ok, I'll play - I would like a "Survivor" cruise and/or a "Sixties" cruise with stars from that era. Those are the first two that came to mind - I am sure I could come up with others

My opinion won't probably be a very popular here but I want to cruise with my favourite team Boston Bruins. Although I think it should be on RCCL since they have ice arena. ( I know Washington Capitals organized something like this for their fans)

I know this would NEVER happen but it would be great to have Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and even some really good bands that do the Beatles. I have seen Paul in concert 3 times and would again in a heartbeat. DH would go because he loves me and cruising. While I am dreaming they could also have Phil Collins one night for a concert.:D

How about you? What theme cruise would be your fantasy?
Actually, I got to live my "dream." :)
A 10-day Panama Canal cruise on the ms Rotterdam last March.
We had a large group there from the Maui Writer's Conference. This group consisted mostly of budding writers and self-publishers. Many of us were already published authors, and others were hoping to be.
The program offered three distinct "tracks" ...
The Booklovers program was for people who were not necessarily writers, but perhaps were traveling with one. :) This track provided advance reading assignments before the cruise. Then during the cruise, they had book club get-togethers where participants could discuss the book they had read with the author. Usually there were two sessions for each book. Authors included Ben Bova and John Saul, as well as several others.
The Masters track was for people who wanted lectures on various aspects of writing as well as critiques of the various projects they were working on. They also got consultations with editors and agents on how to package their projects for ultimate sale.
Finally there was the Writer's Challenge at Sea program. That's the one I was in and it involved a lot of work. We actually had to write three pieces while on the cruise in consultation with professional authors. These could be fiction or non-fiction and the subjects were based upon things related to our cruise experience. At the end of the cruise, the faculty met and one piece for each Challenge participant was selected for further work. We then had about a month after the cruise to hone it based on feedback we had received and then submit it via email to the Maui Writers Conference staff.
Over Labor Day Weekend our book will be officially released. It's called Ship's Log at Sea, and it contains about 50 separate essays or non-fiction pieces all related to the journey. It should be awesome!
These cruises are going to be a yearly event, with the next one planned, I believe, for next June. That one will be an Alaska itinerary.
I probably won't attend that one because I am already booked for a Hawaii cruise next year and can't afford two expensive cruises in the same year. Of course, these writing theme cruises are a bit more expensive since you have a stellar faculty whose passage must be covered.
But, that's my "dream cruise" and I sure plan to do it again sometime!
Blue skies!

Holland America still has "Big Band" cruises each year on their transatlantic crossings. We produce Dixieland Jazz cruises and a lady named "Gertie" produces Irish music and step dancing cruises.
There are Star Trek cruises, sports player cruises and square dancing cruises.
Kingston Trio, anyone? Digital photography? Retirement financial planning? Duplicate bridge? Many, many more already sail every year.
Some of these cruises are charters. The best way to find out about your special interest is to either "google" it or call Holland America directly.
Better yet, take your idea to your local TA and put a group together around your special interest. Chances are you will end up sailing for free and will create your dream theme in the process.
My fantasy theme cruise would be: Seven continents - Seven wonders. See them all on one 365 day cruise.

I love the idea of an Agatha Christie Mystery Cruise and also being shipwrecked on Half Moon Cay playing Fantasy Island!
I would also like to "request" a 70's Music Theme Cruise! Specifically, would have to include at the very least "Chicago" and "Earth, Wind & Fire". Maybe Neil Diamond and Lionel Richie. I'm sure there other greats that just don't come to mind right now.

But we had to get our daughter to the airport for a 6:45AM flight the next morning so we didn't go.:(

I guess we're not theme kind of people because to be closed in with a big group of people just like ourselves wouldn't be interesting or fun at all. It would be kind of like a business conference and not a vacation.
