We are cruising out of Bayonne, NJ and don't know if it is preferable to fly into LaGuardia or Bayonne. We would sure appreciate any advise. Thank you.

Newark without a doubt. Only about twenty minutes from Newark airport. Take a cab.

Laguardia is in New York City and on a good day about an hour plus driving time and much more expensive due to tolls, distance and out of state rate for New York City Cabs.

Many hotels in the Newark airport area..

Definitely Newark. Much closer, no bridges and tunnels to deal with. And you can sometimes see your ship as you are landing! My mom & I took a cab (just got one at the curb near baggage claim) and it was (with tip) right about the same than if we both took the Celebrity ground transfers. The upside was that it was a lot more convenient because we didn't have to wait around for the bus to fill up.

Newark, without a doubt. LaGuardia is a nightmare under the best of circumstances.

This was going to be my question as well!
Also, what hotel should I choose for a pre-cruise ( 1 night) stay. Need a safe, nice hotel with a good restaurant!! Thanks

Costwise, Newark wins. But we flew in the night before to JFK, and stayed in Manhattan. Had a WONDERFUL time in the City, and it's not too bad a ride to the piers...you could even do a cab for about $50. So if you want to start the "celebration" a night ahead of time, and enjoy NYC, I'd vote for JFK. On the other hand, lots of cruisers DO fly into Newark, and stay in local hotels, and running in to them the night before can be fun.

Newark is more convienent to NYC than either New York Airport because of their locations.. Takes about three times longer to get to Manhattan from JFK than from Newark. If you want to do some sightseeing, still fly into Newark and either get a hotel in NYC or Jersey City. Prices are much cheaper in Jersey City and its about 10 minutes to NYC by train. If no sightseeing there are many chain hotels in the airport vacinity. Remember that many of these will be in Elizabeth or Newark, either could be airport hotels since most of the airport is actually in Elizabeth. Excellent Marriott on hotel property..

Don, thanks for that info...we always fly JetBlue (to JFK), so didn't even think about the distance from airport to city, just city to pier. This Summer and Fall, we have two trips where we can fly Continental, and that'll help, even if we want to stay in the City the one night between flights in/out!:) Staying outside the City wasn't an option for us last time...my neice kept us out until the wee hours... and I'm only willing to do short cab rides at 4:00 in the morning!

WE took Fall Colors cruise last year and flew into Newark. We stayed at the Hyatt on The Hudson. Good service, beautiful view of NYC, Path ( public transportation) into city is next door. I would recommend this Hotel highly.
It took us about 10 min. to get to NYC, and we bought a 2 day pass fro grey line on/off buses. Enjoy your cruise.

There are some great hotels on the waterfront in JC with a view of NYC and quick access into the city. Much better prices than NYC hotels.

..yeah, but my company doesn't own any of those.....:D In house rates are the best! Sadly we sold two hotels last year, so it's getting harder. If I get stuck, you may see anther post from me!!!

Ok, so my next question is should I look for a hotel at the airport (Newark) or in Jersey City? Hyatt Jersey City looks great but don't really want to pay well over $300.00 for the night!! How far is Jersey city to the port?? Is it closer than the Newark airport?? Thanks for all answers!

If you are going to do some sightseeing in NYC prior a hotel in Jersey City is a good idea. If you are just flying in and going to the port, stay at the airport. The port is between Jersey City and the airport...
