I had made an earlier posting about our upcoming cruise this Saturday on the Oosterdam. The 'deal' came with $50. onboard credit and Dinner for 2 ($60.00 value) at the Pinnicle. THAT IS EXACTLY HOW IT WAS POSTED ON THE INTERNET SITE.
We booked the cruise and the confirmation said the same thing. Upon talking to Holland a week ago about something else, they said it was a lunch ($30. value) NOT DINNER. They said they could not do anything about it, go back to the travel agent.
After several calls, I was finally left a message today.....lunch at the Pinnicle. They suggested that perhaps the Purser on board might change it !
WHY SHOULD HE ! THIS IS NOT HOLLANDS FAULT.
This is in itself not a big issue....lunch vs. dinner....the problem is it could have been anything ! I would have been more upset if it was our shipboard credit.
Guess you have to check everything ahead of time with cruiseline even if you have it in writing. We cruise all the time and know it is useless to complain about something like this on the ship, plus I don't want the hassel of it.
We have used this travel site before with no problems. I know if I name them they will probably remove this posting.
I will leave one last message with them tomorrow stating that they either make good on the dinner or give us additional room credit. If not I will report them directly to Holland for fraudulant advertising.

I understand this bothers you. Be aware that the TA, any TA is your agent, not HAL's or that of any cruise line.

I hope this works out to your satisfaction and regardless, put it aside, if you can, and have a great cruise.

Perhaps the internet site originates in an area where dinner stands for the midday meal, which most people now call lunch. In former times, dinner was the largest meal of the day, served at midday, and supper was a lighter meal served in the evening. In some areas, mostly rural, this usage still continues.

Nevertheless, Holland America calls the evening meal dinner and it is, of couse, the largest meal of the day. So the travel agency should honor this, even if they made an honest mistake. Alternatively, they could offer another $60 onboard credit and let you choose when to reserve the Pinnacle Grill.

Have a great cruise!

Shippy - A couple of things stand out.

The "$60 value" is your $50 credit plus $10 for your Pinnacle meal. Isn't $10 the cost of a Pinnacle lunch?

However, your confirmation does state that the meal is for dinner. So, who issued the confirmation - HAL or the TA? The confirmation we just received for Eurodam's inaugural is the actual fax our TA received from HAL.

Just a personal note - the Pinnacle now costs $30/pp for dinner. John & I weren't all that impressed - the food in the dining room is just as good & is included in your cruise fare. After everything you've been thru, once onboard, I'd take my Pinnacle certificate & turn it in for credit. I'd be sitting in the PG & be stewing about all the hoops & phone calls. For what?

Pinnacle has been charging $15 per person for lunch since Oct 1, 2006.

If that travel agency doesn't want to lose a good customer, I hope that they reconsider and make it dinner.

Shippy - just to let you know - we also received a "lunch for 2" at the pinnacle from our TA. We never got around to using it and were pleasantly surprised that it showed up as on board credit on our final invoice !!!

Shippy,

We had dinner at the Pinnacle Grill when we were on the Veendam in October and we weren't that impressed with the meal.

We were taken out to lunch at the Pinnacle Grill when the Statendam was visiting Melbourne in January and it was a wonderful meal.

I feel that lunch is a much better option than dinner.
