Oosterdam's "new" azipod has arrived in Victoria, BC and is awaiting the arrival of that dam ship around the 24-25th of April when it will be installed to replace the ailing port-side pod. Couple of pics of the arrival

John,

It might be interesting to see the look on the guy's face who dropped his Timex into the windings of the damaged Azipod when they do the tear down. See if you can get his photo.

I am not sure that the 2 nasty "Vs" upset him last night, lol

I can however, understand his frustration, that has happened to me, you can sit for hours trying to download a picture and then it fails. Grrrrrrrrr

Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures John.:D
It was very interesting to learn that the pod had to travel from Europe via ship due to it's size and weight. Great to know it's arrived in Vancouver intact and awaits the Oosterdam for a "refitting". :D
The pictures also put into perspective the magnitude of the issue, and why HAL couldn't repair the pod sooner. Imagine how long our cars would be in the shop if our parts had to be fabricated, and shipped via barge to Vancouver.
I wouldn't want to see the total cost for that repair.

Great Job, John!!!

Now is anyone gonna ask what those bars welded on the sides of the pod are for...
...and why they shipped out a whole new propeller when that wasn't the problem?
;)

Copper10-8
April 9th, 2007, 10:44 PM
Here's the interesting part: the pod, that has caused all the problems, was completely serviced last September (along with the starboard pod) at the same yard in Victoria (see pic). Things went wrong on the second cruise to Mexico after Oosterdam arrived in SD from Victoria. They truly think that they're going to find a wrench, screwdriver, etc (left there by mistake by a worker) as the culprit inside the port-side pod once they open her up

Good questions, Brian!;)

The new propeller is necessary because it is engineered to fit over the cone shaped end of the new azipod and tolerances are critical The new azipod was built for a new ship now under construction in Italy. Now the one that will be removed from OSDM will be shipped back to Europe in the same manner, repaired and installed on the new ship, so recent publicity has said. Only know what I read guys, can't vouch for detailed truth:)

Close but no sigar;) The latest plans are for the ailing pod to be removed, repaired and then re-installled on Oosterdam in September of this year, back in Victoria for the third time in a year!

John we just fell in love with Vancouver last September, the harbour was so vibrant, above all else we saw further south. It was just so busy and my Canadian friend has sent has down all the pictures that he took during our cruise, we are very lucky, but now I have proof just how exciting Vancouver actually was. Even better I have three cousins in Vancouver, 2 in the city and 1 on Vancouver Island, I think I feel a good cheap holiday coming on :D

Great City! Really like spending time there, Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain, Capilano supension bridge, Gastown! There's a revolving restaurant on top of one of the buildings in downtown (forgot the name). Had dinner up there and enjoyed the view! Maria likes all the flowers all over the place on street lights!
