You are talking about the Laffnvegas Suite:D that has been my residence for 21 days and currently booked for another 14 and by mid June will have her booked for another 14;)

You asked is there a lot of movement and vibration. YES and YES, is there noise YES but we are not on land we are on a moving ship and that is to be totally expected and if you go to this cabin expecting no movement and total quiet with no noise may I suggest the Hyatt in San Diego.

All kidding aside, yes this cabin has a totally different feel than that of a mid ship cabin, if you are an experienced cruiser than you know how a ship moves especailly at night when she is going a bit faster to her next destination. Well take that movement and add in just an ever so slight fishtail movement to it. You will not feel that during the day when she moves slower but you will at night when they kick it up a notch. Will you feel a vibration? have you ever sat in the very back of the Dining Room of the ship, yes there is a bit more vibration but after a while you get very use to it and it is not noticeable, just like when having dinner by the second night it goes away. As for noise, I do not think I have been in any cabin on a ship where there was no noise, each ship and cabin has their own unique sounds, if it did not I would be concerned. Now in the past the window washing machine that is just below our our cabin on deck 4 has made noises. The first 2 cruise there was a banging noise that was only heard when the ship was going at full speed. We did not hear it this past cruise but then again maybe we have become so accustom to the sound of the cabin it does not bother us. This last time in that cabin there was a slight amount more vibration but I have felt it far worse on other ships but bear in mind this was before the fixing of the azipod. It is my understanding the those in deck 4 feel it much worse. Personally to us the vibration is just another soothing way of going to sleep knowing we are on our favorite ship. We consider it another added touch from SOE;)

Hey Lisa,
I couldn't have said it better myself, so I won't.

We did hear some banging outside a few nights. Never did manage to figure out what was causing it. I did notice the folks in 5179 next door had some of their deck furniture awfully close to the divider. I think that might have contributed to the banging. And it was while we were sailing at full speed. Or as full as they could sail with a 67% functioning azipod. ;)

We just got back last weekend on a sublease of 5187 from LAFFNVEGAS. If you go back to threads posted from around 4/9, you should find my review. And yes, we liked the cabin. Have held it for the same sailing next year already. DH and I were talking about how great that verandah would be in Alaska for viewing since you get such great angles.

Hi sale away,
One thing I have to say about the aft veranda suites in Alaska is that you will have glaciers in your back yard. It's the best viewing on the ship. The Crow's Nest and Lido windows fog and if you get cold outside you can run inside for a few minutes. We kept the TV on to hear the narration and had the chairs arranged by the door. The calving was spectacular.
Go for it!

Congratulations on booking 5187. I was on the 3/24 sailing in cabin # 5186, which is the same cabin...only across the hall on the opposite corner.

It was truly amazing. I did a quick tour of some other deluxe rooms mid ship...nothing compares to this room.

For us, the room itself was not as huge as I thought. It has lots of square footage, but maybe a little less useful space than the other deluxe cabins mid-ship. Or...maybe it's because we traveled with our 8-month hold and had a stroller and "Pack'n Play" with us. The balconies on mid-ship deluxe appeared to be much smaller.

Let me be clear....I am NOT complaining! The cabin was amazing. The balcony is the main reason I would get this room again. Your balcony will be the biggest on the ship with the exception of the penthouse...probably. The balcony wraps around the side of the ship the entire width of your cabin. It was very exciting seeing that. Lying out on our balcony was one of the highlights of our cruise, it was worth every penny.

This was by far the best cruise I've ever been on AND the coolest cabin I've ever had. I can't wait to sail the Oosterdam again soon.

Have a great time!

Is 5187 larger than 8135? It looks larger on HAL's web site.

Thanks.

I had this cabin last year in Alaska and I did like it for the verandah but didn't like that I was so far away from everything. Especially the Neptune lounge.

Being a long way from the Neptune really is the one down fall but it is close getting to the main dining room just a quick run down the staris 2 or 3 flights. I also find I really do not gain any weight when I have this cabin because of the extra walking;)

I have not seen 8135 but I do know that the both corner aft cabins on deck 5 are larger than the corner afts on deck 4 and deck 6 which I have seen and would only guess that they are also larger than deck 7 and 8.

Having been on the Rotterdam deck the year before, I also felt like it was more of a haul. Then again, I justified it as my "daily exercise" to work off all the food I was ingesting! :D But the Neptune Lounge definitely saw less of us this year than last year.

The pro to being aft is the elevators (or stairs - walk? who me??) drop you off right at the entrance to the Vista Dining Room so you're not fighting the crowds mid-ship to get there. And as odd as it sounds, it actually felt like a shorter walk to get to the Pinnacle Grill from the aft elevators than to walk to mid-ship on the Verandah deck then take those elevators down. And we do use the Pinnacle for breakfast most mornings.

Oh... I just saw Lisa beat me to the punch in saying the same thing! GMTA (great minds think alike!)

By the way, if you do dine in the Pinnacle, tell Andrew (the big tall blonde Englishman) that the turkey bacon lady sent her greetings.

I am booked in 8135 for my first time on HAL. and first time to Alaska. Looking forward to both experiences! :)

Will post and let you know more about this cabin also. I was afraid of no shelter, should we get lots of rain, so picked this cabin as it looks to have more overhang above the balcony.

Anyone else know anything further about this cabin?

Cheers! :)
