I am thinking of upgrading from an SS to a S on Zuiderdam for our March 05 cruise.
I was just wondering what the differences in benefits would be , including the Neptune Lounge.
Also can anyone tell me a good location to upgrade to!

The vista class ship is unique in its SS category. It is very close to an S only a little smaller. The main benefit of an S is the suite amenities which include free laundry and dry cleaning, priority tendering and disembarkation, and the Neptune Lounge among other things. The Neptune Lounge is nice because they always have snacks, juices, and coffee available from early morning until about 8 p.m. The concierge will help you with any requests or problems.

:) Suites

Also upon arriving in your suite there will be a bottle of champagne compliments of the captain.

On the Oosterdam we stayed in 7054 - not far from the Neptune Lounge.

Neptune Lounge has continental breakfast: juices, pastries, cereals, fresh fruits, sometimes meats and cheeses and of course a coffee machine to make your own coffee, or capaccino.

Around 11 AM, the breakfast is cleared away and small sandwiches and cookies are put out. Sometimes candies are also put out.

About 5 PM the lunch items are cleared away and raw vegetables and some cold appetizers are put out.

The concierge can take care of your charge card, make appointments for you for the Pinnacle Grill and/or beauty salone. She can take care of shore excursions. Answer any questions you may have. Take care of travelor's checks and make change. Also take care of any billing problems if you have any.

You will be invited to a suite cocktail party the first evening on board. It is usually held around 7:30 PM either in the Neptune Lounge, Hudson and Half Moon Rooms, or the Exporer's Lounge.

You might get invited to a VIP party half way through the cruise.

Some ships have a suite buffet the last sea in the Crow's Nest.

We are still extremely excited about having out first S Suite on the Ryndam in November. I have a couple of questions one is you know how everyone has a favorite food on HAL well, mine is kinda weird. I love the Swiss Muesli served in the Dining Room and Lido Buffet for breakfest. I know it is not exactly dietary but it is one of my splurges on the cruise. I must have it every morning. My question is do they serve it in the Neptune Lounge? Then I have read but it has been a while that Suite Passengers can have lunch and breakfest in the Pinnacle. Can they still do that or is it only on certain ships? Seems like I heard that they discontinued on the Vista Class but what about the S Class ships. If they do still have breakfest in the Pinnacle does anyone recall if they serve the Swiss Muesli? OK that is just the questions that came to mind this morning.

Thanks:D

So, the Neptune Lounge is not accessible to "us regular passengers"? (not In a Suite)

Lisa.....I am sooo happy to tell you that every morning, there is a beautiful bowl full of Swiss Museli.....and topped with fresh blueberries or blackberries as garnish. It is out of this world. I took one very small spoonful one morning to try. It was irresistible.

No, it is not....:) In fact, it is on the same deck as the S and SS's....for some reason I did pass by there on the Maasdam..not sure why, was following someone else, and ended up there...think we were lost. Neptune Lounge seemed ordinary, but the suites looked fabulous. Again, it was just a quick glance passing by.

I was on the Oosterdam in an S suite in January. There was not champagne in our cabin for us from anyone.

We've been in an "S" over forty times on HAL ships and every time there has been champagne in our cabin when we boarded. A gift from the Captain and Hotel Manager.

Seems your Suite was "missed" by accident.

Do they check your room card to enter the Neptune Lounge? The do this for Diamond members on RCCL to gain access to the special lounge that is similar to this.

Thanks Sail, that is one of my splurges while cruising, I figured I walk and ran for close to an hour on the treadmill. I deserve it:p

The S Suites are wonderful. Are they worth it? Well, I think its what you're looking for. We've been in S suites twice and have another booked for 09/04 Zuiderdam, and they will spoil you. But, last year we sailed on the Volendam and booked last minute and couldn't get a S so we booked a SS and I was fine with that. Its not as big as the S but it is still very nice. The little perks that come with the S are wonderful, but if you have to pay a lot extra I wouldn't think so. They weren't a lot higher on the 09/04 Zuiderdam cruise so we decided that it was worth the little extra. You'll love either one, IMHO. Enjoy

I was also on the Oosterdam in January in a suite, and there definitely was champagne. In fact, the group I was with had 8 suites and all had champagne and everyone ended up on our balcony that connected to 3 other balconies for the sail away. Everyone brought their bottle of champagne for the sail away, and oh what a sail away it was......for what I can remember of it! :D :D :D Jake, so sorry you missed yours. Next time they should bring you two bottles!!!

Nasmas, the ss suites look wonderful. I do love most of the amenities in an S suite and would definitely miss the Neptune and its coffee machine for lattes. However, I really don't think you can make a mistake.

We did back-to-back cruises on the Oosterdam in Feb/Mar (2004) and there was a bottle of champagne in our suite BOTH weeks - compliments of the captain and hotel manager.

viennacruiser,

We're going to be on the March 26 sailing of the Zuiderdam. Will you be on the same one, or are you sailing on a different date?

Every time we sail b-to-b (which is very often), they always bring us a bottle of champagne from the Captain and Hotel Manager for EACH cruise.

Anyone know if the barriers between S suite balconies on the rotterdam can be opened, so groups can mingle?

There is a door that can be opened, but you must ask your cabin steward to do it. The barrier walls cannot be taken down.
