Last December there was a thread on one of these boards showing a link to a website that had diagrams of dining room table with table numbers. I lost the link. Does anyone know it?

Thanks.

I wish I was wrong, but I don't think it was a HAL board. Your TA can get dining room layouts for you.

We have always asked our TA to request a table near the aft windows in the Dining Room. I have written down which tables numbers they have been. I just assumed each ship would have different table numbers. Am I wrong? Or is it all the Vista Class are the same and the S and R Class are the same? We have always been fortuate to be located where we requested.

:)

We had our TA get the dining room lay outs for each ship years ago. And when the Vista class ships came out, we got those as well. She keeps a copy for herself in case any other customers want to select a table.

The Vista class ships all have the same table arrangements.

The "S" class ships all have the same table arrangements which are different than the "V" ships.

And of course the "R" class ships are different than the others.

... you could go onto the HAL website after you've made your booking and pull up a dining room map and select your table? The airlines do this now with their seating charts. You can select your seat when you book your flight online. Seems like HAL could have a "live" database so we could do this.

That would be great. The only thing is they would have to include demographics of the individuals so that those not wishing to sit with children could select a different location. That's what most Matre'D's do.

While I understand your concern, the demographic ramifications could be considered as discriminatory if they were to do that. Just like choosing your seat on the airlines, you'd just have to take your chances with who your neighbors are.

86; 66; 67(this table is behind a pole that is right at the rail.

They probably make the final assignments close to sailing.

They would not want a group of 8 to have to sit at two different tables. If people selected their table on-line then they could have a bunch of tables with only four seats left. However, I assume that the maitre'd will first assign larger groups to make sure they can sit together, and then go down in size.

Absolutely, Orcrone, this is exactly the reason no cruiseline would allow you to pick your table online. The maitre d' has to have the flexibility to assign tables looking at the whole picture- how many want what kind of table, how many groups want to sit together, etc. If people were 'reserving' seats at specific tables weeks and months ahead some people along the line would not be able to be accomodated when in reality when the maitre d' does the assignments after he has all his pax' requests on file, the vast majority of pax end up satisfied. ;)

I'm not sure what you mean by Main Level.....

For the Upper Level (my preference), tables for six far aft against the glass are #28, 26, 30, 61, 59, 57, and 55. They have a fabulous view of the wake. All glass.........

You can go to the deck plans on HAL's website and look at the deck(s) on which the dining rooms are located. If you look closely you can see the tables and how many chairs are placed at each table; example, look at the Westerdam Promenade deck and at the bottom is a layout of the Upper Vista Dining Room. Even though the tables are not numbered, you can get an idea as to the configuration of the dining room.

Flatwallet: Thanks for the advice! I can almost see it without my glasses too. I copied it into a word doc and enlarged it! Looks like the music is on the upper level. Are you able to enjoy the music during dinner from both levels? Or shall we consider moving closer to the center of the dining room? I really like the tables near the windows!

Sail7seas: sorry, I should have said the lower level. Are the windows the same as the upper level? The lower level has a lot of tables for 6 against the aft windows.

Thanks!

Good idea about copying the plan and enlarging it. Too bad they don't have the tables numbered. After enlarging then did I realize that some of the tables are covered by the Upper Vista Dining Room wording as are most of the rooms, etc.. Nor do I know the accuracy of the placement of these tables but one could assume they are somewhere near correct. Wouldn't you think?

Hey guys........Just do what I did. E-mail HAL from their website and request seating plans. They gladly sent them to me by FAX and I chose my specific table by number. I have done this about 4 times and always got my chosen table.
There is also a disclaimer that there is no guarantee that you will get your requested table. but obviously they tried for me and I have gotten it every time I asked.

Tables on the upper level on the Vista class ships by the windows - people are either walking by or jogging by the windows.

My drawing is not very good of the lower level. The numbers are blurred and some of the numbers are written over. Here are the ones I can make out: 131, 135, 137, 136.

On the Oosterdam the only music we had was piano player on some evenings and a guitarist on other evenings. The music area is located in the area of the stairwell between the 2 levels of the dining room. Unless you have a table right by the rail, it is very hard to see the muscians. We had a table right by the rail and had a hard them seeing them.

KK - Thanks for the table numbers. As for the music, it will be fine as long as I can hear it from our table. I just remember how loud the dining room gets at times. We don't usually eat at restaurants that serve hundreds of people at a time! :)

You didn't say which level you wanted on the Amsterdam, but here are tables for 2 by the rail (upper level): 70, 72, 74, 76, 71, 73, 75, 77.

There are other tables of 2 scattered around the various levels.

My favorite table for two is number 78. It is on the rail of the upper level. S class and Rotterdam/Amsterdam and Zaandam. Next to it on the rail is a table for four #80. Another great table.

Would that table number be in the same position on the Maasdam?

We will be sailing on her next year and I am tossing up at the moment whether to request a table for two or go for a six or eight.

Are there any small tables at back on the lower level where the big windows are? We had a table there for six and it was in a wonderful position.

Zuiderdam - upper level by the rail: 88 (not a good table - sat there first week of the cruise - moved next week - right at the top of the stairs), 90, 92, C (behind a pole), 79, 77 - all these tables are in the back section. Tables in front section: 73, B, 82, 84.

mbc1 - you didn't say if you wanted upper level, lower level, by the rail, or by the windows.

Lots of good tables by the windows - expecially for Alaska.

Upper level - 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 34, 35, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25.

Lower level - no tables for 4 by the windows. Tables for 4 are all interior.

Hi, since we will be on the same cruise we are interested in whether or not you got a specific table assignment or is it just a request for one from your TA.
Looking forward to meeting you aboard ship.:)

You can have your TA request a special table number, but until you get on the ship, you won't know if that request was granted.

We were once told by a maitr'd that they do try to accommodate poeple with table requests because it helps them on deciding who should sit with whom and where to seat them.

Well that only makes sense... There is no harm in asking, though...
Since we are 6 people in our family I asked for one of the tables by the window .. We are on the Lower level (6:15pm).
Since it will still be light why not have a view ?
My least favorite tables are the ones that are practically out of the DR.. Actually when the kids were small, they were FINE and I appreciated this, but time marches on.
The TA is making the request for a specific table on my behalf. She has the plan and offered to fax it to me, but I asked her to use her judgement. I am not all hung up on this- actually the waitstaff is the most important thing to us. last summer we had a window (but it was dark in tahiti so it was no big deal) and the waiters were the least personable i had ever encountered. I would have traded for someone with a bit more sparkle.

That's a great point! We had a wonderful waiter on the RCCl Legend of the Seas, Akos. He was very entertaining, suggested food for us, warned us against unpopular items and gave hints at what would be a better choice in days to come. He made our dinners very special. I think he spoiled us for all our future cruises, but hopefully we will find some competition on the Zui in December!

I called and emailed HAL for a dining table layout. The phone rep said they don't do that, because the table numbers change for each cruise. My TA did not get table #s, but put a request in writing for the type of table I want.

i am sure that there are some modifications to the table numbers form cruise to cruise but it does seem that there is a general sense of where the numbers are in the DR, not just for the ease of the TA's but for the staff.
Could you imagine if, say for example, table 100 was in a different spot every cruise !

The table numbers do not change each cruise. HAL has faxed them to me before. Try different depatments on their contacts page and see if one of them will help you.

My TA has asked and gotten specific table numbers for me before.

There is no way that they are going to change the table numbers every cruise. It would create mass confusion on the waitstaff. Immagine the first night's dinner with the waiters looking for table numbers at the same time that passengers are looking for their tables.

Carol (Jazzsea) - Thank you for your offer regarding the table plans. There are six of us on the Volendam and have requested a table for six, upper level 8pm sitting. We are only second-time cruisers with HAL. The first time we were on a table for eight, lower level and were near the door. Although it did not matter too much at the time because we were in good company, the table position was a little disappointing. I love to talk AND people-watch AND to watch the scenery, but in late November/early December I don't suppose there will be much scenery to watch in the dark.

Would you please check out the table plans and suggest a table number, based on the above info. I promise we will like it! LOL.

The lower level has wake windows with a fabulous view. The upper level is on the Promenade deck so the joggers can watch you eat. View is OK, though.

The quartet plays on a platform halfway between the levels.
