Does anyone know of a Marriott hotel near the port in Seattle? Also, how far is the port from the airport?
Thanks,
Arlene

I've stayed at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront. Beautiful hotel near some of the piers, but the HAL pier is a 10-or-so minute drive away. If I remember correctly, it took about 30 minutes to come in from SEA-TAC.
It's a deluxe hotel - I wouldn't hesitate recommending it.

It took us about 30 minutes to go from the airport to the down town area - little traffic.
Have seen the Mariott from Pike's Market - looks like a lovely hotel.

Arlene,
Living in VA now, but used to live in the Seattle area, and visit often. The Marriott Waterfront is indeed a good hotel and near "the cruise pier" -- but unfortunately not the one HAL uses, which is pier 30. It is, as CrystalLady says, about a half-hour drive from SeaTac airport. You can get to pier 30 in about 10-15 minutes by taxi from the Marriott Waterfront.
Some things to consider:
1. Are you arriving late in the day and just spending the night before embarking? In that case, you might want to book the Marriott near the airport. It's about 20-30 minutes from the HAL pier (or longer, depending on traffic on I-5).
2. Are you a member of Marriott Rewards and are looking for any hotel in the Marriott "family"? If so, there is a Residence Inn at the base of Lake Washington; a Spring Hill Suites on Boren (or Yale, I forget which) that we stay in a lot that is about a mile from Pike Place Market; and the Madison is a Rennaissane Hotel that is centrally located. In fact, we have booked the Madison for a couple of nights before our Panama Canal cruise this fall. (Our sons live in the Seattle area, and we visit there often, usually staying at the SHS, but decided to splurge this fall.)
Hope this helps,
Dave

I stayed at the Waterfront Marriot and I loved it!
Be sure and ask for a balcony room that faces the cruise ship dock. HAL doesn't dock there but it is still cool to see the ships come in.
Also there is an observation deck on top of the building....you can see the HAL dock fom there.:)

Hi Dave:
Thanks for all the helpful information. We decided that since we are arriving the day before our cruise late in the afternoon we will stay at the Rennaissance Hotel that you suggested. This way we have the evening and the next morning to spend downtown sightseeing.
Thanks again,
Arlene

The Marriot at the airport is a good deal for what they charge nightly. And if you are getting in late the night before i'd stay there. As I have alot of Starwood points from work travel I am using them for our stay at the W on 4th avenue. Its walking distance to Pike place etc, and we'll have a couple of days to spend there before we board Oosterdam for our Alaska trip.

We have also stayed many times at the Airport Hilton whenever we fly out of Seattle early in the morning. They also have great rates and would be good choice if you are lying in late at night pre-cruise.

On Monday, when I spent my lunch hour walking from Seattle's International District to Terminal 30 to see Zaandam, I noticed that there is a new hotel at the south end of Seattle, just south of Safeco Field. It's a Marriott Courtyard, I recall. If you don't need to wander around the famous sights of Seattle (Pike Place Market, etc.), this hotel would be a real fast taxi ride to Terminal 30. They have a bar (Jimmy's), but I don't know if they have a restaurant. Weather permitting, I'll be venturing past there on Monday to see Empress of the North at Terminal 30. I'll check it out to see what it looks like, and will report back here. Maybe I'll wear my CC cap to lend me an air of gravitas.

The hotel you mention is the new Silver Cloud Inn Stadium. Here's a link (http://www.silvercloud.com/stadium.htm). Jimmy's is a restaurant/sports bar/grill. I fear a CC cap alone may not be sufficient to lend you the needed air of gravitas. You may have to wear a CC fanny pack for that. I have one if you need it. I have much gravity, especially on my fanny.....

Thanks, MAM, for correcting my faulty memory. The Silver Cloud it certainly is. I must have been light-headed from seeing my first in-person HAL ship since last September. Thanks to the Port shipping guide, there will be about 21 more opportunities to visit Terminal 30 from May 18 to mid-September. Amsterdam will dock each Friday, and I plan to be there for about 10 minutes before heading back to Union Station (where I work) and the real world. It's also good for getting rid of some of this gravitas!

It's been a couple years since my last stay at the Renaissance Madison, but at that time, there was a marvelous Italian restaurant at the top of the hotel. Very convenient, if you are tired and don't want to leave the hotel. Great views too!
Of course, Seattle has many wonderful restaurants...

Last year I stayed at the Hilton at Sea-Tac and found it a wonderful Hotel. The Cab ride from the Hilton to the HAL Cruise dock was about 15 or twenty minutes. I found the Hilton to be nice. I got a good price at Priceline dot com.

I'll be staying at the waterfront Marriott pre-cruise, than am switching to a Res Inn post-trip for our time in the area. When I return I'll post a review of the hotel and it's ammenities for future travelers.
