I've read that laptops will not fit in the cabin safes, but that some ships have drawers you can lock. Does the Rotterdam have these?

The nightables on the Rotterdam (and all HAL ships) have a locking drawer. It is quite deep but not sure of the width. I would estimate about 18 inches. If your laptop has a wide screen display it may not fit. Try putting into your night table at home, you may get a good idea of the probability of it fitting. What about a security cable? If you want it out of sight in a locked place I don't have anymore suggestions, but there are wide drawers (no lock) under the bed which seem out of the way to me.

What about a security cable? The first time i brought my laptop I used a cable lock for the first couple of days ... and haven't bothered since ... or worried about it. :D

I know this will sound shocking to a lot of people, but my husband and I have never used either the safe or the locking drawers to store our valuables. We have just left everything in the cabin, stored away, yes, but not locked, including lap top and digital camera, and never worried about anyone stealing it. My husband just leaves his lap top out in the open. I've never felt uneasy about our room steward, or anyone else, coming in to take our things.

You may also consider locking your laptop in your carry-on and keeping it in the closet when you aren't using it and not in the cabin. Those locked drawers aren't very wide.

I have a 17" Toshiba laptop that measures 16" wide by 11" high. They don't come much bigger. It fit nicely in the nightstand drawer on Rotterdam. Only problem, there were no keys for the drawers in that cabin. I usually put the laptop in the drawer when we were out, so it was out of sight. I wasn't too concerned about not being able to lock it.

I have a large 17" wide screen laptop and I assumed it wouldn't fit in a night stand drawer, so I didn't even try it. It might have fit, but I brought the cable lock and used it for a few days, then felt so secure that I put the lock away. I think in the future I'll just bring the lock for use in hotels.
