Baltimore hotel

We are going out of Baltimore in September. I know there is a thread that links to available hotels in the Baltimore area but has anyone actually stayed at a hotel in Baltimore? We would like to stay fairly close to the harbor but not spend $300. a night for a room.
Any suggestions would be most helpful. We will be flying into BWI.

I have stayed at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore on several occasions since it's right downtown near Baltimore Harbor. It's a very nice hotel. The only thing I will say is that since I've never cruised out of Balitmore before, I don't really know where the ships take off in relationship to that hotel. You may want to call the hotel and find out. But, if it's close to the Baltimore port, I would definitely recommend that hotel.

I actually live outside the Baltimore area and have sailed on the Grandeur of the Seas from Baltimore. I know the hotels in the city and I have to say that there many to choose from. By far the best is the Sheraton Inner Harbor or the Marriot..Both are a short taxi ride to the port of Baltimore.

We also are going out of Baltimore in September and found the Tremont Plaza to have the best rates at least on line........$164 a night.........have not stayed there but have gotten good reports........close to the Inner Harbor but not on the Inner Harbor........they have a shuttle to take you there........good luck.

I have booked at the Bed & Breakfast in Baltimore- $133.00 per night with Breakfast included. It's called Wilson House and the pictures look very nice. It's about 2 miles from the Harbor.

Where is Wilson House?

It's 2 miles from the Harbor. Clost to Mt. Vernon Cultural Distric, University of Baltimore, John's Hopkins University. Looks to me like it's downtown? I don't really know but it looks nice from their web site. It was built in 1880 and has 10,000 sq.ft so it's quite a large B&B.

For someone who started out saying they would like to be close to the Inner Harbor, you have chosen a location that would never be considered anywhere remotely near to it. Let me just say that this is a transitional neighborhood.

I'm with Howard on this one. Why would a Baltimore visitor who's cruising want to stay at the Wilson House or be near UofB and Hopkins or any university for that matter? There's nothing to do in the area, especially for kids, unless you have tickets for a concert or show at the Meyerhoff or Lyric. It's also not an area for just "strolling around" in the evening. As in any city, when you want to be close to the major tourist attractions, the hotel rates will be higher. If I was visiting Baltimore, unless it was for business and I had been here many times and knew my way around, I would never ever choose the Wilson House.

If so, that Marriott's in a great location in Harbor East, which is close to Fells Point. Fells Point is a funky, quirky, eclectic area with cobblestone streets and great little shops, restaurants and bars. There are water taxis that will transport you to and from Harborplace.

Just wanted to add that the Fells Point area might be a good option also. There is a water taxi to the inner harbor. I've stayed at the Admiral Fell Inn and it's a very nice hotel. Old with some character but very convenient for walking around. Lot's of restaurants, shops, bars, etc.

Yes thats the Marriott we are at....good to hear that it's a fun area...I am traveling with my 16 yr old daughter and always try to do things that will be fun for her as well as me....thanks for the info.

After dark, call a cab to go anywhere from this neighborhood...

:) I know very little about Baltimore, but we booked the Mount Vernon Hotel for 109 a night in June. It is about 6 blocks from the harbor.
