Perhaps I'm a few beats behind everyone, but I just noticed for the first time that at the bottom of a thread I was reading, there was a section indicating registered users who were also reading that thread at that time.
If it has been there for a while, I just saw it. I'm not sure I think it is terrific.

What I don't like is that I had selected to be "invisible" on User CP. I just went to verify tht was still checked and it is.
So why is my name showing up when reading a thread?

:)
Remember when we all used to be able to see all the names of those who were on the HAL board?
This seems to be something like that.
But instead of seeing who all is on the HAL board, now we see only those on a certain thread.

Yes, you're right KK. But why do they offer a choice to be Invisible ? Doesn't that mean that your name won't appear at all?
Maybe I am confused as to what to expect from choosing "Invisible"?

Maybe I am confused as to what to expect from choosing "Invisible"?Most people refer to things like this as "bugs". In the software world they're referred to as "undocumented features".;) :D

I think that although you appear on the page as far as you are concerned, no-one else can see it. It should appear with an * by your name, confirming you name does not appear to others. I think....... You don't show now and probably I don't either. Your "spot" colour should be red?

Wow, Phil...THANKS.
You are correct in everything you wrote. Your name is not showing to me; my name shows for me but not for you.

S7S ... I can't see you. :)

S7S, since you noticed this feature, I wondered if you knew about the "Who's Online". Not only does it tell you who's online (unless you're invisible), but it also tells you where that person is!!! Amazing.

Not being critical, only curious. Why would one wish to be "invisible"?
Oh, I get it. You're supposed to be working!:)
Or not. If not, what is in jeopardy?
HeatherInFlorida

Nothing is in jeopardy really. I think it's just a personal decision. If you don't choose to be invisible, then everyone can see where you are on the boards. This might bother some and not bother others. There are people who don't like being "seen":D while others want to be. Truthfully, it's all silly really. If the little button next to our name is green it means we're "visible" and we're on the boards, if it's red it means we're here, but we're invisible meaning you can't see where we are. If it's grey it means we're not on the boards at all.
At least I think that's what it means.

Life used to be so much simpler. ;) Used to be red and green was either traffic lights or Christmas. Now it's visibility/invisibility.....grrrrr, everythings is getting complicated. :)
Thanks very much for the explanation. At least I now know how little I know.

I noticed the feature at the end telling how many members and guests were on each post. I noticed it earlier in the week

I'm with Steve - why would anyone wish to be invisible? Is there a reason behind it? Personally, I could care less who knows where I'm at or at what time -
When I think about surfing the boards using "invisible", I picture someone who might be trying to hide something or stir up trouble - but that's just me.

Some people are just private by nature; by instinct.
Desire for privacy does not imply 'troublemaking', does it?
ekerr19
July 16th, 2004, 09:30 PM
No, certainly not troublemaking... just surprised that you would opt for it Sail - you have a wealth of info to offer :)
I've seen other boards were the new poster posts and runs - usually preferring to troll anonymously... I wasn't referring to you specifically.
I hope you have a fantastic time on the Maasdam!

I didn't take it to mean you referring to anyone in particular. I guess it is safe to say I don't post and run :)
There are times when there are posts/posters on a tangent that I sometimes prefer to avoid. I guess I "speculate" that if they see a person who is their target of the moment is on line, it may spur them to keep up the conversation when the other person has tired of the subject and that poster. If they see they are here and reading and can see WHAT they are reading, it may lead to more of it.

Oh, I see your point now... :)
Wow, I never thought of it that way! I've seen some people look for the veteran posters - just to post something contradictory - in order to start a ruckus. Now I can see it from your point of view.
Thanks Sail!
I truly hope you have a wonderful cruise (I know you will :) ) and hope you enjoy the Pinnacle Grill as much as we did. Congratulations again on your anniversary - may there be many more!
