I was playing with web cams and was surprised to see that the Oosterdam was already docked in Juneau and right at the cruise port in down town Juneau. Her normal location during the season is AJ Dock which is about a mile away. But here is is right downtown.:)

Thanks Lisa, good to really see her again. To bad things did not workout in Seattle. Great picture here though maybe she will dock in the same place again this season.

Melodie, unfortunately I think this will be the only time this season she will get to dock here. She is scheduled to be at the AJ Dock the rest of the season. She is the first ship to get to Juneau so I am guessing they gave her the prime location:D

It looks like the above web cam shot is live and updating. So I will post a picture here we can see later.

If the Oosterdam would move forward just a bit more then I could see my 5187 verandah:D

In 43 more days until you are in Juneau, hopefully the temperature will have risen considerably the current 42 degrees and cloudy. Vision OTS is in Skagway and it is all of 43 there. Wonder why the prices are cheaper in May:confused:

Actually our first 2 times to Alaska was in May, we packed for it, expect extremely cold wet weather and had a great time for both cruises. We were there last year this same first week and loved it.

When you think of May in Alaska you think of rain, cold and dark skies not these pictures.

I still remember docking in Juneau (and Ketchikan, too) as a cruising neophyte and being amazed that I looked down from our verandah into the shops downtown! It's really an amazing sensation.

We will be in Juneau one week from today on the Oosterdam!!! Hope that it's not too cold - being from Arizona, we're just not used to being that COLD. I've been keeping an eye on the weather for a couple of months - it did get up to 50 one or two days. We'll be prepared though and are quite excited about seeing this part of Alaska!!!

If you take a look at the web cam photo I posted you will see that there is now a little sunshine on the Oosterdam. Looks to be clearing up:)

While the sun might be trying to come out it is still very cold so anyone going soon needs to oack with lots of thermals and layers especially if you are from warm country like we are.

Oosterdam sure looks great!

We leave on the June 2 departure. I was looking at the other Alaska ports and it looks like Ketchikan and Skagway already have their first arrivals today as well.

I think the Golden Princess is right in front of the Oosterdam in Juneau. The Celebrity Mercury & RCL Vision of the Seas are in Skagway. And in Ketchikan the NCL Star is visiting.

The Star, Mercuy, and Golden Princess departed Vancouver on Friday. It was cool to watch them all depart on the excellent webcam that overlooks Canada Place. For some reason, they all departed later than scheduled (at least the Cruise Ship Calendar schedule).

Wow, it is interesting to see how light it still is in Juneau. One forgets that when you are this far south. It's been dark here for quite a while. The Oosterdam does not leave till 9:30 tonight.

Hi, Mom and I are sailing on the 19th, putting us in Juneau on the 21st. I thought the O docked downtown. Actually, I didn't realize there were 2 separate docks, and had plans of just walking from ship to a couple of stores I'd already found online that were only 2 or 3 blocks away. So how DOES one get from outlying dock to downtown? Thanks!

Oh, is the salmon bake worth it?

Linda in DFW - only 11 days!!!

Linda, where the Oosterdam will be docked when you cruise is much more than 2 or 3 blocks. It is at least 1 mile maybe slightly farther. When they first started using that dock in 2004 HAL provided bus service to downtown. There is also nothing between where the dock is but a road. It is definitely better to stay with the shuttle service.

As for the Salmon Bake we finally tried it for the first time last year in May and thought it was really great and cannot wait to go back this year.:D

4 More Days!!!
Can't wait, I am a little confused  on the docking issue in Juneau, is where it docked yesterday just a one time or will it be for a few weeks. I am thinking about the shore excursion pickups and the people that are in wheel chairs!

Unfortunately we'll probably be relegated to the other pier from next week forward. The only reason I can see that they were there today was that the Golden Princess was the only other ship in port. Starting next week Oosterdam shares Juneau with GP, Zuiderdam, and Radiance of the seas. But look at it this way, you'll have James Deering as your HM, and Jonathan Mercer as your Captain. :)

Drat re the dock issue. When you say shuttle, are you referring to a bus that 1800 passengers are all going to want to catch the same time? Is it free? Does it make regular runs with pickups at various locations IN Juneau, or am I going to have to take a cab or an excurion just to see the city I expected to walk off the ship and wander a bit? I'm not in a wheelchair nor "disabled" by any means, but I do have issues that limit the time I can comfortably be on my feet and limits walking distances. This unexpected info has really put a damper on my Juneau plans, and probably ends my intent to visit the needle arts store near the other dock. : ( Thanks for any additional info.

Another question re Salmon Bake. In the Excusion Brochure it mentions Whale Watching and Salmon Bake as a separate excursion, leaving out the trip to the Glacier. On-line there is an Excurious for Whales + Glacier, or all 3 but not the first two. I suspect it's way too late to book the Whales as it is. If so, we'll find something else.

Also, should I, the ultimate mosquito magnet/feast, be concerned about being devoured in Mid-May?

Thanks again, Linda
