We are excited about our August 25 Maasdam Cruise from Montreal to Boston. We plan to fly in to Montreal, but hopefully to fly out of Hartford Connecticut several days after the end of the cruise to visit family in the area. I phoned Holland America today to ask about a"home port" bus, but they only had one way Bus from Boston to Montreal at the beginning of the cruise that the agent could find. Perhaps this is too early.
Does anyone have any information about car rental locations near the Boston port? Alternatively, is it practical to think about getting from the port to the train station to take Amtrak? I have not had much luck discovering this on the Boston Port Authority website. While the cruise terminal looks pretty close to the train station on a map, reality might be quite different. Thanks for any info.

I think the web address is massport.com. If not look under Massachusetts port authority.
We satyed at a HAL hotel overnight and caught a cab to the Hertz office which is practically just around the corner from the Backbay Hilton.

The Amtrack Station ( South Station ) is very close to the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. A short taxicab ride should only be a few dollars and a few minutes.

I think the info that you need is below. The Silver Line runs directly to South Station , and there is Pick and Choose. You have , Buses , Amtrack , subway.
Boston has a zilion of car rentals ,and for about $30 a day you can have a nice car with unlimited milage. Just check on the different car rental websites. Most likely they will pick you up . Taxis can take you there for a few dollars .
Go to Massport.com ,then to Quick Jump , and select to cruiseport
Here is some info from their website.

Public Transportation

Public transportation is available on the Silver Line Waterfront from South Station to the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. For more information on fares and schedules, call 1 (800) 392-6100 or check the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) websitewww.mbta.com (http://www.mbta.com/).

If you go to www.breezenet.com (http://www.breezenet.com) they have comparisons with rentals from airport to airport. We're on the Boston to Montreal 5/26 sailing and have just booked a car for the return trip.

Black Falcon Cruise Ship Terminal (where Maasdam docks) is a short taxi ride to Logan Airport. It would be very easy to go from Cruise Terminal to Logal and pick up a rental car to drive to Hartford. I wouldn't be surprised if you could arrange for a Hertz, Budget, Avis van to pick you up at the terminal in order for you to get your rental car.

Sorry...... Meant to add that Hartford is an easy drive from Boston.

Hi, take AmtraK. I love the Acela. It is easy to get to South Station and take the train to Hartford. If you do not know your way around, I would not bother with a car rental.

Be certain to check what luggage restrictions there may or not be for Acela. For a while, it was carryon size only. I think I read that has changed but you should verify.

Amtrak's web site shows that to go from Boston to Hartford, you have to go through New Haven and change trains. The trip is about four hours. There may be other train options, though, which are not showing up.

Hertz, among others probably, has a rental location at South Station which is very near the cruise terminal. As someone else suggested, they may pick you up and take you to their office.

I am on the May19th Montral -Boston and am trying to find a way to get from Black Falcon Terminal to Logan Express lot to pick up our car if anyone knows?

I think the easiest way is to take a cab but questioning fare

Take a taxi. Fare should be in the $10 - 12 range but......as always........depending upon traffic. You also have to pay the tunnel fare. You should not have any trouble getting a taxi outside Black Falcon. They line up when the ships are disembarking/embarking.

Thanks that is great I don't need to go thru the tunnel to get to Braintree and the express lot do I

For Braintree from Black Falcon, No....No Tunnel. That is down the Southeast Expressway.

Now I'm not sure just where the Express Lot is. Do you have address? When you first said said Express Lot, I thought you meant at Logan Airport.

It is on Forbes St. Right off 93 exit 6 coming from RI

Aha.... You won't have to go through one of the tunnels!! I don't anticipate you should have any problems at all.

Have a GREAT time.

I THINK THAT YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT THE PARK AND RIDE PARKING LOT IN BRAINTREE. HERE IS HOW YOU GET THERE BY CAR FROM THE SOUTHEAST EXPRESSWAY IN BOSTON

Option 1: Route Through Boston
Take Route 93 South through Boston - approximately 10 miles South of Boston (Quincy/Braintree Area) Route 93 changes directions and goes North.
Stay in Right Lanes - Signs will say 93 South - 95 South - 128 North.
Take first Exit after change - Exit 6 (Braintree/Holbrook - Route 37).
At end of exit ramp Go Right.
Go to 2nd set of lights. Turn Right as if going into the Sheraton Tara Hotel. This is Forbes Road.

I am coming from RI I know, leaving on a *pm flight out of Logan, I know from past expereince expecially it might be a college graduation week end that this is my easiest way to get to Logan from Rhode Island. My problem is getting from the Black Falcon Pier the return Saturday back to my car at the Logan Express Lot in Braintree. I am trying to figure out if I should rent a car or if it is cheaper to take a cab

I would take a taxi from Black Falcon pier to the Braintree parking lot. I think it will cost about $30. or you can call Logan Express Bus lines and find out if they have a stop at South Station. (I think they do ) . Find out which of their line goes to that parking lot. Either they go there or one of the commuter rail lines does . That's why that parking lot is called "Park and Ride " .
If you check here on Monday , I may be able to find it out for you.

Also depending on your luggage you could take a taxi to South Station , the Red Line (subway) to Braintree , and then another taxi from the subway station in Braintree to the parking lot.

Wow! Thanks so much to all of you for your help and knowledge. I posted my question and, go figure, was unable to access the Internet for a couple of days due to connection problems. I am blown away by all of the valuable information you have all given me. It looks like we have several options. I was worried that we would really have difficulty. The post cruise trip looks very doable now. Thank you all again. Cruise Critic folks are the best!
