Has anyone ever done this? We will be arriving at the Great Wall through a tour. We want to stay longer, not go to the Ming tombs, but taxi or bus back to Beijing. Any recommendations? Thanks. Marlyne

Very few taxi's that are for hire at the Badaling entrance to the Great Wall. You will see quite a few taxi's, but they have been hired by the day and are waiting for their passengers.

Why not cancel the tour and just take a taxi/car and driver (better option) to the Great Wall??? Usually about $100.00 for the entire day for the service. Then you can arrive and leave when you want and also go any other place you want.

On busy days, the buses are backed up trying to get into the parking lot. The taxis have another entrance and can zip around the buses. Two years ago, we ended up at Badaling on one of the National holidays (big mistake on my part). Some buses waited over 2 hours to get into the parking lot (it was full). Our car and driver zipped around the back side. We were up on the Wall before most of the traffic.

Thanks. That is an idea. I also understand that there is a bus. Marlyne
