Boy, what an early morning I had, but it was well worth it. It was just above freezing when I left this morning, but I'm more than used to this type of maritime "spring" weather. The sun is shining nicely now and hopefully all the Maasdam's passengers will have a wonderful day in the city. Enjoy!

You're more than welcome. As I had mentioned in another posting, this is the first Mother's Day without my Mom so this proved to be a good distraction and was a great way to spend the morning. I'm soooooo NOT a morning person but getting up early reminded me of my Feb. cruise on the Westerdam when I awoke very early every morning. I'm very happy you both enjoyed the pics. :)

Thank you so much for the great photos of "My" :) Maasdam. She looks so beautiful.

I'm so excited to see her port to the dock. We always have a port side cabin and keep our fingers crossed the ship will be docked with port side to the dock so we can hear/watch the Pipers from our veranda in the early morning when we arrive and later when we depart.

Last year, we had to take a starboard cabin as that was all that was available for b-to-b. I was sad because I thought we'd miss the pipers but Maasdam docked starboard to the dock and we got to see the pipers. (They were doing renovations at the terminal and regular docking was changed.)

Now they're back to port and we are, too. :)

(There's a senior gent in a wheelchair who reads the Proclamation and a lady in a lovely costume pushes his chair. Each year when we go to Halifax I worry they won't still be a part of the group and I'm so happy when we see them.)

Thanks for the memories. I remeber when myDW and I arrived in Halifax on the Massdam. These pics help keep memory alive. We lost many of our pics when my PC hard drive failed. thanks again.:o

Sail we too were lucky in 2005 to see the pipers and we too were on the Starboard side. I just love the sound of the bag pipes:)

We're looking forward to returning to St. Johns in June. The Montreal/Quebec itinerary (that we're doing in August) does not include a stop there but our June itinerary does!! We like St. Johns and I remember a very warm welcome there as well.

We really looked long and hard at taking this cruise but could't get our act together and decided to wait until next year. Unfortunately, in 2008 the Savannah stop and the Quebec City overnight have been dropped.

You're welcome! The first bunch were taken around 7-715am and the ones of her coming in to port are about 745am. I started at the look off that's a couple of minutes from my place, then followed her in through the narrows (the pics with trees in the foreground) then beat her to the waterfront by about 10 minutes. The last bunch were taken from Terminal Rd, the closest I could get at the port. By the time I was leaving, there were a few people out on their verandas but it was a pretty crisp morning, so I don't doubt most people were staying toasty warm inside.

It's so nice to hear that so many people enjoy our fair city. The Maritimes get the crappy end of the stick a lot of the time (you'd be surprised how many people think Canada ends at Ontario) but I think we've got quite a jewel here and it's wonderful to hear such kind words from all of you that have been here in the past....and continue to come back because you enjoy it so much.:)

We love your city Haligonian....... We always feel welcome and the people are so friendly and helpful. The few times we've asked directions or assistance, everyone has been so responsive. The boardwalk along the shore is so pleasant to walk with the clean, new shops.

Help me out, if you can.

I'd really love to buy a few nice sweaters when we are there in both June and August.......any suggestions for where to look for quality sweaters? Nice woolen or cashmere?

Thanks for your kind words. Even this morning, walking up and down the boardwalk, I encountered a few different people (all complete strangers) and as we pass, there's the usual eye contact and a "good morning" exchanged. It might sounds cheesy, but things like that really warm my heart and make me grateful to live here.

How I would have loved to be aboard and out on deck watching the sail-in. This was almost as good.

Thanks for the great picts. I will be sailing into your beautiful city on June 7th on the Maasdam. Halifax is one of the ports that I am most looking forward to seeing and am hoping for good weather at least no rain.

That would be "Saint John", New Brunswick. There is no "s" and the saint is always spelled out. St. John's is in Newfoundland.---I hope you enjoyed your visit to our city.

Absolutely Beautiful pictures. I enjoyed them so much.
That little bird was cute, on guard and letting everyone know the Maasdam has arrived.

It did look like a quite brisk morning. I hope it warms up for the end of June when I arrive!

That little bird scared the crap outta me! I had gotten out of my car to get some shots and it was quiet as can be, there wasn't even noise from the Maasdam, then all of a sudden "rat-a-tat-tat-tat".....I almost hit the dirt! The little thing was hammering on the metal light standard like a mini jackhammer. After I had a good laugh, I was glad it was so early and no one had seen me ducking for cover.

I can reassure you that in a month's time, it shouldn't be hovering around zero in the mornings.....though, I can't guarantee anything 100% when it comes to our weather. :)

Thanks Haligonian for the pics of the Maasdam. Sure wish I was there but alas, I am on the other side of the province. Now, if and when she sails up the Bay of Fundy to Saint John, New Brunswick, and it isn't during the night, we can see her. Not close enough to get pictures though. We will keep a watch of her schedule to see if she is sailing this way during the daylight hours. Oh, it does make us homesick for her, though.

Check June 27 and again July 4. We are scheduled to arrive at Saint John at 8 A.M. I guess it might still be dark when we sail up the Bay of Fundy?
