View Full Version : A1 Deluxe Ocean View w/Veranda questions

Has anyone stayed in this category on the Journey?
A1 Deluxe Ocean View W/ Veranda
Stateroom Area: 215 sq. ft.
Veranda Area: 38 sq. ft.
Comments on the room?
Do you think it really is 215 sq. ft.? This would make it 26 sq. ft. less than a Jr. Suite on the Vision of the Seas.
Bathroom?
Shower door or Curtin?
Veranda?
Small, I know. Anything different about it compared to other Celebrity or RCCL ships?
Any photos of stateroom, bathroom or veranda?
Thanks much for your help.

You will find that the state room area of 215 sq. feet includes the balcony and that the sizes are misleading in that they are inclusive of the balcony.
All of the "R" class ships were built with the same size cabins and if you go to the other cruise line websites you will see the actual cabin size accurately depicted. For example Princess lists these cabins as 216 square feet including balcony. The cabins are actually in the order of 161 square feet with the balcony at 54 square feet.

I knew this ship when it belonged to Renaissance Cruise Line. The cabin is actually smaller than 216 as this includes the size of the verandah. At the time we sailed with Ren in 2000, the bathroom had a shower curtain because there is no tub. It's a walk in shower.
If you want to see what this cabin generally looks like and a good view of the balcony from inside the cabin, go to www.virtualtoursusa.com click on gallery (in the middle of the page) then cruise ships, then choose Pacific Princess. The BB balcony listed for a virtual tour is the 1/2As on Journey or Quest. The cabin will not change except for decor. Happy Sailing!

Thank you for sharing this information! I have an idea now. I thought the balcony would be bigger. Still looks nice though.
Also, thanks Mr. Tucker for your info. I suspected the 216 was including the balcony.

Actually only the SV cabins have 54 sq ft balconies. The 1/2As are 38 sq ft. Both categories have the same size cabin.

Been looking for some of the same questions. We are on deck 8 sailing the 26th. Would like to know noisy it was since we are below the pool. Saw a few pictures not as many as I would have thought. What I saw was 1 out side cabin and it looked beautiful (couldn't tell if shower had door or curtin), dining rooms looked good, pool area was almost finished but nice and a main staircase I think going to the dining room not much else. Hope to hear better reviews this weekend and see more pictures.

I can tell you that 1/2As have shower only. Sky Suites when original had a tub but those are the cabins on Deck 8 that were removed and totally redone so it could have changed.
The staircase is in the lobby and takes you to the next deck. We were on deck 8 when we sailed this ship as Pacific Princess. We did not have a problem with pool noise. Happy Sailing!

The cabins are only 177 sq feet + balcony of 38 Sq ft.
They have shower curtains.
Verandas are small. 2 chairs and a table.
No photos were taken of these facilities.

We have a 1A booked on Quest & I too was pretty sure that the 215 sq. ft. included the balcony, but thought I would I send an email to Azamara to confirm .... this is their response....which I find really surprising
In regards to your inquiry, a Category 1A stateroom on the Journey and Quest are 215 sq. ft. plus an additional 38 sq. ft. veranda which equals a total of 253 sq. ft.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.. The 215 includes the balcony. I've sailed on the Tahitian Princess, Oceania.. and the late Ren ships all in balcony cabins. Below is the blurb from the Tahitian Princess on the Princess website. And it is correct.
Oceanview Double With Balcony*
Twin beds that make up into a queen-size bed. Balcony. Sofa or sofa bed. TV and desk. Refrigerator. Spacious closet. Bath with shower. Approximately 216 square feet, including balcony.

I can second that information. Azamara is wrong. Sorry but the 216 includes the balcony sq ft. I have sailed on this ship when it belonged to Ren. No way is it 216 sq ft cabin and all the documentation regarding sister ships (Tahitian, Pacific Princess, Oceania, etc.) verify this. Happy Sailing!

I agree - I had done a lot of research into cabins on Tahitian Princess so wasn't doubting what CC posters were saying .... I was just surprised at the response from Azamara! I sent the link to this thread to the rep to see if he might look into it further ... their website should not be listing inaccurate info - not only for the sake of their clients, but for the reps who are obtaining info from their website to pass along to clients.

Is Celebrity also wrong about the size of the Sky Suites? The Journey brochure states that the Sky Suites are 323 sq ft + 57 sq ft veranda. Is the stateroom actually only 266 sq ft? This is a huge difference!

Yes the Sky Suite sq ft of 323 DOES include the balcony size. If you have any questions about sq ft re cabins on Journey/Quest just go to Princess cruiselines and check out the description of Tahitian or Pacific Princess. They are the same ships. Happy Sailing!

On Oceania they include the veranda in the sq footage. same ships so not sure how they get bigger rooms

Journeyfan,
I believe the size shown for the Sky Suites is probably incorrect. All of the other former R ships that have suites equivalent to Sky Suites show the size of the suites as 322 or 323 sq. ft., including the balcony. I said the size is probably incorrect because the Sky Suites are newly constructed and they could be bigger than equivalent suites on other former R ships. However, since the Sky Suite size is the same as the combined suite + balcony size on the other R ships, my guess is that Azamara is double counting the balcony as they did with the regular balcony cabins.
Also, if the Sky Suites and regular balcony cabins were truly larger than the competition (i.e., Oceania), don't you think Azamara would be shouting this fact from the rooftops? Their silence on this issue says a lot.

Thanks for the reply, Dave, although, since we're booked in a Sky Suite for the 7/14 cruise, it isn't what we wanted to hear. Pretty disappointing to find out that our stateroom is only 80% the size we were planning on.

journeyfan,
I hope your cruise in July will be memorable notwithstanding your disappointment about the size of your Sky Suite. If I were in your position, I would send a letter to the president of Celebrity/Azamara, politely informing him of your disappointment about your Sky Suite size and how you felt you were misled by Celebrity brochures and web site misinformation. Who knows, Celebrity/Azamara might give you some OBC. :D

Hi Dave !
I think you have it exactly right. Also, Ocngypz pretty much said the same thing about the 1A Cabins, and she knows what she is talking about. IMHO, they should NOT list the cabins as 1 calculation of total space. I would rather see them listed as : Cabin Size (Sq Ft) + Balcony Size (Sq Ft) = Total Size (Sq Ft). I think that would be the best way to do it.
Just to double check, I have an email in to Azamara. When they respond, I will post it here.

Those of you who have stayed in the verandas on these ships...which one is better?
Are the aft rooms noisy or bumpy? I remember the dinning room on the Oceania being a little bumpy at times - not that I cared or minded, but I don't think I would want my room to be bumpy or loud.
Thanks

I have stayed in a regular verandah and seen the sunset verandah (both while Ren ship). The Sunset has the aft view bonus and a bit bigger balcony but other than that, they are the same cabin. It's up to you, whether either or both are worth the extra $$. Happy Sailing!

I just noticed that Azamara/Celebrity has finally corrected the stateroom and balcony sizes on the Journey for Sky Suites and below. The sizes for penthouse and royal suites were blank so I assume they are in the process of getting the correct dimensions for those suites.

May 30th, 2007, 07:11 PM
I forgot to add that Sky Suites have a 266 sq. ft. stateroom plus a 60 sq. ft. balcony, Sunset Verandas have a 175 sq. ft. stateroom plus a balcony of approximately 46 to 64 sq. ft., and Deluxe Ocean View balcony cabins have a 175 sq. ft. stateroom plus a 40 sq. ft. balcony.

My parents were in a suite on Oceania and I am assuming these are the same suites on Journey. They are comfortable and about twice the size of a standard cabin with a larger bathroom and closet area.

Hi Andy .... just wondering if Azamara responded to your email?
thanks,
Hi Susan !
I did not get a response, but (as others have mentioned) if you check Azamara's website, they have finally updated the dimensions of the Sky Suites, Verandas, Ocean View and Inside Cabins. They have not updated the Penthouse Suite or Royal Suite yet, but I am sure its coming.
The new footage Sq Ft dimensions confirm what most of us assumed.... but the good news is, the correct information is posted now.

I'm glad to see that the cabin dimensions are finally accurate on the website (although I am a bit disappointed to find out we will not have the joy of experiencing a bigger cabin than usual after all.) Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stretch my legs in the Martini Bar (oops, I mean the gym). :o

Hia ll I'm glad they have finally corrected the cabin sizes. I'm sure it caught out many people not 'in the know'. And I include myself in this.
We are booked on Quest for Sept 08 in a balcony cabin & one of the things I told my DH was bigger cabins etc . Just didnt compute that they are the same as the Oceania cabins. took the info on the web site as correct. Have visited Oceania in port but not sailed on her. Havnt told DH yet.
We had been weighing up trying smaller ship like Oceania or Raddison and trying something a bit more luxurious but we liked this ititnerary. We are regular X cruisers so picked Quest.
It will be interesting to see how Joureny & Quest settle into the market as they are clearly aiming at the Oceania type pax.
