We're contemplating a cruise to Mexican Riviera possibly on Dec. 13th. Would like to avoid the holiday crush and a lot of kids (sorry). Can anyone tell me when West Coast schools start their Xmas holidays? Thanks!

There are hundreds of schools districts in California and holidays vary. You are safe from school-aged children the first 2 weeks of December.

Hi Golfette,
I can't speak for the entire West Coast, but our local school districts here in Oregon start winter break the week of Christmas this year. Cheers!:p

The little beasties in the Seattle area get off around December 19-Jan 2.;) I'd say you're mostly safe in early December. Watch out for those homeschooling kids though; their parents let them loose to run wild all year long!

Golfette,
I think you're safe! School districts either start the week before or the week of Christmas. The dates vary with the day of the week on which Christmas falls. Most districts will probably start this year's holiday on December 21st. Go for the Dec 13th cruise!!!!

We've done that cruise on that date a couple of times and your will definitely avoid the holiday crush, with very few kids.

I just checked the schools here in our area in the east. Vacation begins Dec 21 like so many of the west coast schools.
You shouldn't have a lot of children on the 13th.
Go for it!!

You'll be fine. Actually the weeks just before any holiday are the best to cruise. It's too early for school vacation and many colleges and schools have exams right before a long break, so not many students are able to travel. At most there should be only a few families with pre-schoolers. ;)

Most high school and elementary schools start their vacations at some point during Christmas week ... usually the day before Christmas Eve. They then have off until after the first of the year ... usually January 2 they go back.
Colleges, though will vary ... and they could be off from early December until the middle of January.
As someone else on this thread stated, you'll usually be safe from the younger kids the first two weeks of December. But, even that's not a sure thing. Remember, a lot of parents will yank the kids out early if they can get a better deal then. The cruise fares go up substantially during school vacations ... and if the fare is considerably less a mere one week before, some parents will just get the doctor to write a sick note for little Johnny and bring him along before his school vacation actually starts.
Blue skies ...
