Our voyage, the 2o07 Grand Mediterranean & North Africa, started on March 12 and ended May 7th.

This was a good and bad time to travel these destinations. Good - cool weather made touring the ports comfortable. Bad-that the Europeans were on Easter Break and there were alot of tour groups and crowds at all the sites from Barcelona to Rome . Still it was better in the cooler weather, some rain but overall not a problem.

Another weather concern was on the ship - no one sat outside (except very rarely) which made the Lido and the public rooms very crowded. You really need the outside decks for additional seating.

Everywhere we went, all 31 ports, they really rolled out the welcome mat. In most cases, we were the only ship in port-and were treated to local entertainment on the dock & sometimes in the Queen's Lounge. Even a 7 gun salute in Malta. Our Dubrovnik meeting with the Amsterdam was special, too.

Much has been written about the Prinsendam and much of it is true. The crew is fantastic, the passengers ran from elegant to wacky, alot of hard work was put into making these 56 days special - flags of the countries, themed dinners and Balls, many gifts and the luggage to put them all into and us getting our 100 day medallions. A Grand Voyage really is unique.

I had never been to Africa (unbelievable) or Europe - so I was a 'kid in a candy store' !and 2 transatlantics, too.

But I figured if my ancestors could brave the Atlantic to come to the USA - I could too- with stabilizers and gourmet meals !!!

Thank you CCers onboard for such good memories and the crew of the Prinsendam for getting us there & back safely and with first-class treatment.

Any questons ?

MaryAnn, what a wonderful itinerary! 31 ports! What were a few of your favorites, and why? Thank you very much:)

And you had the good taste to do it on what is probably HAL's best ship. I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise and thanks for sharing.

I also hope to sail the Prisendam next year ... albeit for just 24 days.

Blue skies ...

I ditto everything Mary Ann said. It was an awesome 65 days, and I'm sure my family is tired of hearing all about it.

My favorite ports were Santorini, Malta and Maderia. They were unique. My unfavorite port was Athens. Had been there 45 years ago when it wasn't such a big city, and you could just walk up the Acropolis for free. Too much hustle and bustle.

Good report MA

It's a shame that only the transatlantic cruises stop at Ponta Delgada, Azores. Of course, it's almost 1,000 miles from Lisbon out in the Atlantic !!
Our guide, Ricardo Amorin of Amazingtours.se, showed us places where only the fishermen go, a spa with volcanic heat, the people who took the ship's tours were fogged out of the views from the mountain tops, our views looked like the Big Sur area.

Dakar, Senegal in Africa was so different - so African - but the Pink Lake area out of town was beautiful on the edge of the Sahara and Atlantic Ocean. Truly amazing !

Cadiz, Spain was lovely, the Cathedral was decked out for the Easter Processional, very livable city and even had Roman & Phoenician ruins.

Kushadasi, Turkey-was surprizing, I expected a serious, religious place but found a Florida-like resort city with mountains. Having an Efes beer at the marina by the ship with the m usic blaring, you almost forgot that you were over 8,000 miles from home. Fun place and unexpected.

My DH was ready to move to Dubrovnik ! especially the little waterfront town down the way called Cavtat. Just the kind of atmosphere we love and the pizza was better than Italy.

All were wonderful in their own way - How could I not mention Gibraltor and the Star Pub with the best fish & chips.

OK I have a food thing going on - better go & get a snack.:p
