We took a cab in January of this year and there were plenty available. The ride was about 20 minutes and cost $25.

I agree.......depending upon traffic, the ride should be about 20-25 minutes and on the meter about $25. Very easy to transfer ship to airport by taxi.

Just hope that Tampa isn't fogged in the morning you come back to port. That happens sometimes and the harbor is closed until fog lifts.

Thank you Vanman for the information. Our flight was originally scheduled for 12:05, but we were notified today of the change. This takes place in Oct. We are sailing from Montreal to Tampa on the Veendam.

That's a fabulous cruise. Hope you really enjoy it. We are doing a 14 day Southern Caribbean cruise out of Tampa on Veendam in November. Did it last April on Ryndam and really loved it. Veendam (and her sisters) - - - - great Ships!!!

starysacz,

We sailed out of Tampa on the Veendam on February 25th. We were late getting docked back into port and our flight out of Tampa was scheduled for 11:10. It was touch and go and I was really concerned, but we actually made it to the airport with time to spare. It was about a 20-25 minute taxi ride to airport. DH and I ended up sharing a taxi (minivan) with some fellow passengers and split the $22.00 fare. There were taxi cabs lined up so you shouldn't run into any problems.

Hope you enjoy your cruise. We totally enjoyed the Veendam and can't wait to schedule our next cruise on her. What deck is your cabin on? Our cabin steward was Sonny and he was awesome!! If you have any questions regarding the ship, please do not hesitate to ask.

Happy sailing!

Cindy

One time we had a very hard time getting a taxi at the pier at the end of the cruise. For some unknown reason they forgot that the ship was due in and there was only a handful of taxis there that morning since the ships aren't always there every Sunday. They got their Sundays mixed up. When we got into our taxi, our driver was calling dispatch to tell them to send more taxis.

If everything is normal, you should be off the ship and in the airport by 10:00 AM at the very latest. If there's fog in Tampa, all bets are off. The fog is the one variable that you really can't predict. While we have never experienced a fog delay, about 4 years ago, we sat in the terminal for almost three hours as the arriving PAX got off -- the last ones got off at about 1:30 PM -- all due to a fog delay.

Our experience with five cruises out of Tampa is that in all cases we had no problem making flights from 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM. A taxi will run you about $25 plus tip, the limo is about $11 pp plus tip. The limo will wait to fill up, ~10 minutes, and a taxi will go once you're in and the door is closed. Either way the wait at the pier is much less than the HAL shuttle and the cost, if you bought your own air, is much less for two or more people.

Have a great cruise!
