I know the name of this thread is rather ridiculous, but it's true. :D
We had a CCL cruise booked for us (DH 43, me 49, kids, 12, 11 and 11) for Labor Day week (it did not include Roatan). My husband's employer of 20 years announced last week they were closing their doors on 7/16. We had to re-book another cruise prior to that date if we wanted to do one this summer at all. He does have another job lined up, but will not be able to take a vacation until next year. SO ......
I just booked the Rhapsody for 6/17 and know absolutely nothing about Roatan. I'm a planner. :o
Help! We don't care much about shopping, love adventurous things -- please, all of you, help! Money is somewhat of an object, but we're kinda open there. Not really interested in a beach day cause we'll do that in Cozumel and Costa Maya.

Read these threads below this topic for more suggestions and details. DH and I just returned three weeks ago from Roatan and loved it. We did an island cruise with a private company (Victor Bodden Tours) that took us to view all the highlights of the island. There are zip lines, snorkling, photo opps and cool things like the Iguana Farm to see (in addition to interacting with monkeys).
You will enjoy - once you get out of this crazy little dock (port) the island is beautiful! I recommend visiting Half Moon Bay which is a beach front resort restaurant where you can snorkle in between eating!

Do consider snorkeling from the beach because it is the BEST shore snorkeling.
We had a great time and
we did everything TeeBucs recommended including a private driver from Victor Bodden. We also visited a wonderful orphanage.
Only - our driver talked us into Turquise Beach, a beautiful small resort- but terrible visability for snorkeling and sand fleas:eek:
Half Moon Bay for me next March!
Enjoy

Oh I HIGHLY recommend e-mailing Victor Bodden and setting up a day with one of his drivers. The more people the cheaper it is. I have heard nothing but good things about all his drivers.... we had "Moneyman." He was great and so friendly. Basically they will take you wherever you want to go. The first thing we did was the "Jungle Canopy" zipline adventure and it was amazing! It cost $45 per person and worth every penny. So fun to zipline through the trees. After that Manny took us to a beautiful beach and we had some food and drinks and enjoyed the crystal clear water. Manny waited close by and made sure we got back to the ship with plenty of time to shop a little close to the dock. Even thr drive through the island is gorgeous!!!
Hope that helps!!!!

Thanks all!
I just heard back from Victor and I think we're going to do everything suggested: monkeys, iguanas, zipline, some beach time ...
Question: West End Beach, is that the prettiest one for swimming and sunning? Where is best snorkeling the above poster referred to? Half Moon? Can you rent snorkel equipment somewhere on the beach?
Thanks again. Already I'm feeling better. :o

Thanks again. Already I'm feeling better. :o Roatan is one of our favorite stops. We usually grab a taxi and do our own thing, but the cab drivers here make it so easy to do. You tell them what you want to do and they make suggestions and drop you there with a prearanged time for pickup. If you want to do several things, they are at your disposal. It is a really neat concept and I wish that some of the other ports would try it.
If you would feel better with a guide, I have seen nothing but praise for Victor Bodden. I am sure that you would be in good hands. Tell your guide what you want in a beach and they will know where to take you and where the equipment rentals are.

We used Victor in Nov with our group of 37 and we all enjoyed the day very much. We saw so much. Victor had emailed the member of our group that was arranging the tour and followed through exactly as promised in the emails.
