Noordam room question

We are departing on the Noordam on June 10th. Upon receiving our travel documents, it indicates that we are in cabin 0-F. When I look on the Holland America site it only tells me that we have a guaranteed room. What does all of this mean? What is the chance of an upgrade with HAL? Has anyone ever been upgraded from a guaranteed outside view to a Verandah? This is our first cruise with HAL. I am used to knowing which room I have upon booking. Thanks for any information anyone can give me.

Here's my guess. You booked a guarantee F/category (an outside double) and HAL has not yet assigned you a specific cabin, therefore the "0" as a room designation.

Upgrade chances: The Upgrade Fairy sprinkles its magic dust where it will. How that happens is known to HAL and God only and there are days when we think only HAL knows.

Keep checking your online Immigration Form (you did fill that out, right?) to see when your cabin is assigned.

Guarantees are usually assigned a specific cabin somewhere between 18 to 12 days from sailing ... but sometimes earlier or later, and you may not know until you get to the dock.

Occasionally people do get upgraded from OV to verandahs, but if you get any upgrade at all it would more likely to be to a higher OV, like E, DD, D, or C.

We are leaving on the Noordam on May 27. We also booked a guaranteed F cabin. We were upgraded to a VB cabin on the deck 6th.

Yes, that was an "F" guaranteed cabin. Non-obstructed ocean view. I was shocked when I went to the Holland America site and saw we were upgraded to a balcony. I thought we would do good to get upgraded to a "D" OV. Many people on the same cruise were also upgraded.

The upgrade fairy seems to be granting LOTS of wishes on the May 27th Noordam sailing as we got upgraded from D to VB!!! We didn't ask and would not have known until we got there to check in if our online agency hadn't called and told us that somewhere along the way we got upgraded! VERY nice surprise indeed!:D

On the upcoming May 27th Noordam cruise we have two cabins....both upgraded from a cat gg-partial obstructed view to a VB balcony...very nice suprise for the family.
