Hi! Can anyone who has been on the Noordam to Alaska this year tell me when On Deck for the Cure is planned during the week?
Thanks!

You read my mind.....almost. :)
I was just about to ask the same question about Maasdam Boston to Montreal to Boston.
When is the Walk for the Cure done?

Sail and Jenni, I can only speak from our experience on Zaandam in Alaska last September. The On Deck for the Cure walk was held on our last sea day, I think -- or maybe it was after we left our last port, in the early afternoon. It was advertised in the daily program all week, then was suddenly changed to a later day. You might want to check with the hotel staff to be sure. It's a fun way to get some exercise and a really nice t-shirt while raising money for a great cause. I hope HAL keeps the program indefinitely. It doesn't cost them much, and the goodwill engendered is priceless.

The walk was the last day. It was more of a sea day, since we got to Victoria at 6pm. The walk was early in the morning. I think they had a good turn out for it, even some of the men. It was good to see them there also.

We only have one sea day and that is the first full day of our cruise....the day after we board.
On Noordam in January, I seem to remember they did it a morning when we were getting to port later than usual.
On Maasdam, last year, I don't remember which day it was.

Oh yes.......every time DH and I have participated, there were always a number of men. DH was far from the only one. We, thankfully, have yet to be directly impacted by breast cancer but think the cause so important we try to never miss 'The Walk'.

Yes on Noordam it was on the day the ship docked at Victoria. It began at either 9:00am or 9:30am that day.

I was just on the May 20th sailing, and our On Deck For the Cure was on Friday, in the afternoon, after leaving Kitchekan.

Thank you to everyone for your replies! I excited that they have the walk on HAL. I am training for the 60 Mile Breast Cancer 3 Day, so this is a great way to get in some training miles too!

:) It's a 5k walk so you won't get a lot of training laps in but every little bit helps. :)
Good for you to plan to do the three day, 60 mile Walk. What an accomplishment that will be!!! Good Luck.

Yes, every little bit does help! I am supposed to walk 15 miles one of the days on our cruise. Don't think that will happen, but I want to get some miles in.
Thanks! This will be my second 3 Day. It is an amazing event.

Last summer when we were on Maasdam, Captain van der Loo was training for a Marathon. He, along with Hotel Manager Simon DeBoer, led our "On Deck for the Cure Walk" and lapped every one of us at least 3 times.

In May on the Ryndam it was held on the last sea day at 7:45am. What a terrible time. I can't tell you how many people attended (I was still sleeping right underneath the walk at that time) but based on the number of t-shirts and wristbands I saw the rest of the day I assume they had a poor turnout.
