We booked a bc guarantee on the Zuideram and have recently found out what cabin we have awarded. We were given an A 8010. That is an absolute upgrade. Don't know how we were so fortunate, but we were. Does anyone know how upgrades are given?

The workings of the Upgrade Fairy are mysterious second only to the workings of the universe! There have been many theories, postulations and equations delivered on these boards. Alas ... every one of them has a hole in it somewhere. It's all in the luck of the draw, it seems.

Last summer we booked a BB guarantee on the Zuid and received a free upgrade to A also. HOWEVER we were then offered an SS for $150 pp! We took it and loved it. I sure wish the upgrade fairy would pay us another visit!

Never been upgraded - love to know "how to"! Do you think booking a specific cabin in detrimental to an upgrade as opposed to taking a "guarantee" category? I suspect booking during school breaks will minimize my chances as the ship is likely to be busier. We were called and asked if we'd like to pay quite a steep amount to upgrade on NCL Majesty one time - not worth the $$, however tempting.

We always book a specific cabin, and have been upgraded several times. So that shouldn't hurt your chances. Our last upgrade was to a full suite from an A cabin. Our TA had been on vacation and called HAL just to check that everything was in order for us to receive our cruise documents. The agent asked my TA if she thought we'd like an upgrade. So it was just the luck of the TA calling and a suite being or becoming available for upgrade at that point in time.
