View Full Version : Cruise of the Yum Yum Man Worshippers

A spur-of-the-moment idea:
Hammybee, She Who Has A Way With Words, recently mentioned in one of her posts that she would welcome a HAL PAL Ladies Cruise. She even had a name for it, "Cruise of the Yum Yum Man Worshippers" (as in "we worship the Yum Yum man, not "we worship yummy men"). So a few of us crazier HAL PALS have (very casually) discussed such a possibility this afternoon.
Lisa LaffnVegas and Sher Localady are booked with their respective spouses on the Feb 9, 2008 Oosterdam cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Now, we realize that Tom LaffnVegas and Bob Localady are not, strictly speaking, female; however, they would make most excellent escorts for a grand entrance into the dining room or show lounge. Are there any ladies out there game to coming along on this particular itinerary? Are there any gentlemen feeling left out who think they would like to come along as escorts? ;)
I have no idea of any organization when it comes to booking; maybe Lisa can help me out with that info. Right now, it's just an informal idea.
We could even make up "Yum Yum Man Fan" t-shirts. :)
If we get up a goodly group, we can maybe take over the Crow's Nest or Culinary Center or even better, take turns serving after-dinner mints with the Yum Yum Man and ringing his chimes.:)
What do you think? Am I totally nuts:eek: ? Actually, that's not the question, as we already know the answer. The real question is "Would this be a fun idea for a CC gathering?"
Karin
(*For those of you not familiar with the Yum Yum Man, this is the very cheerful individual in the bell-boy outfit whom you will find in the main dining room vestibule dispensing dried fruits, mints and ginger after dinner. He also rings the chimes prior to the start of dinner).

Sher, suggested we should have the picture of Joe the Yum Yum guy who is often seen in HAL brochures but another idea is maybe close to when we go we could find out who the Yum Yum guys will be and put their pictures on the t-shirt:D
BTW, I think this is a great idea and with out even asking Tom yet I know he will be more than happy to Escort all the Beautiful ladies from CC;) and since we already have 5187 booked, Sail Away Party will be in our Cabin:D

I like the concept (my favorite Yum-Yum Man has been Ari), but not the ship. Anyway, we'll have our own Yum-Yum man then on the Rotterdam as we're sailing with She who has chocolate in her veins, He who hunts Skeet, and some other fellow 'Spamdammers' that I can't think of 'He/She who...' names for right now.
Hopefully this concept is something that you'll do again - on a different class of ship.
Have a GREAT time!

OMG: I am leaving for a one-week Alaska cruise, aboard the glorious ms Amsterdam in about 5-1/2 weeks and then do not have another cruise on the horizon (so to speak) until September of 2008 (okay that's a long and expensive one and I need to save money for it) and was wondering how I could survive that long without some motion in the ocean.
Hallelujah, a cruise that would be doable (moneywise) hoves into sight. Count me in, please:) .
I am tickled to death that I may actually get to meet (in no particular order) MOM (Karin); Hammybee (Captain, my Captain); LAFFNVEGAS (Lisa) and Localady (Sher) up close and personal.
Where do I sign up?

Now I am completely happy. :)

Thank you, She Who Travels Far; we plan to have a great time:D With Lisa, anything is possible! If she can get a Banner Wave going, she can get a cruise theme going, don't you think?;)
Bon Voyage to you on the Rotterdam, a ship I would like to see, one day....

YEAH Valerie!!!!!:D I would suppose we could all do it with my TA, Sher and I both have it booked with her and she found us pretty good prices. Now my TA is currently on the Noordam this week but I suppose we could get her assitant to handle things. Just email me.

Hey hey ! This is fabulous news.
Since you and and Karin will be sailing in Alaska in the next few weeks, be sure you snatch a $100 deposit thing, from the cruise consultant. Lisa has, I think, a permanent booking in 5187 :)

Thanks, Hammybee, for some good info and ideas. Now, do you think we can find Arzz or Grampy or a dozen other great CC folks to join us? We could do a "Walk for the Yum Yum Man" and treat every participant who walks one time around the Oosteram promenade deck to a Yum Yum Man Fan t-shirt and pink lady martini:D All donations to go a crew party fund:)

I love this idea. I'll take care of the shirts if you can use your connections and watch of your Oosterdam to snag a pix of the YUM-Yum man who will be on this cruise.

Buying a cruise direct from a cruise line is almost always going to be higher than what one can find via a travel agency. The Cruise Critic rules do not allow us to name travel agencies because these wonderful boards are sponsored by travel agencies.
These were the best rates I found, at the moment. The rates assume one is either a Mariner or over 55. It does not mean someone else might find even better rates. I am not a travel agent nor am I affiliated with an agency.

Carol, that is too bad you cannot join us.
I have spoke with my TA's office today (still trying to get an offer to pay for an Upgrade for our Noordam cruise) They said it would be best if we wait till my TA who is the Branch Manager get's back next week from her Noordam cruise to set up a Group cruise for us and get rates or should we try to do this thru Crucon the CC group cruise:confused: I doubt my TA would be too upset if Sher and I transferred our booking. Although I have to admit I have NOT been thrilled with the service from Crucon and after 7 phone calls now I have yet to actually speak in person to them about the Eurodam cruise, last comment left on my voice mail last Friday at work was she would call me on Monday no return phone call yet:mad:

Lisa, I would say let's wait until your TA gets back next week to look at group cruise pricing. I know you have a good relationship with your TA there in Las Vegas, and I myself prefer working with a "brick and mortar" agency. :) Just my two cents.
