i just heard that the 6/23 sailing to bermuda is overbooked (i am on this sailing). can anyone explain what this is about? i have only cruised 4 times so i don't really understand. i hear they are calling people to see if they wish to switch to other ships. any info u have regarding this would be helpful. not having cruised much, i really dont know what this means or how it could affect my cruise.

It wont affect your cruise at all..someone the cruise line calls will accept the money or cruise they are offering happily and everthing will be fine..it happens all the time!!

i work with 4 and 5 yr olds and they were done today. so i really need a break. i originally booked on the zenith and got switched. with all the complaining i was seeing on here about the journey i got a little nervous, but for me it will be exciting. i have never tried open seating, or casual dress so i am looking forward to trying something different. we rarely spend much time on board when we are in bermuda anyhow. i researched some places to eat on the island and found an interesting one called Aggies. it is right off front st i believe. they serve scones, tea etc. i also saw it on rachel rays dining under 40.00. she also recommended some kind of chowder in bermuda. so i am looking forward to doing some different things this time. relaxing is number one though!:D

Zenith had more cabins then Journey. That's most likely what caused the problem. I guess Celebrity/Azamara was hoping for cancellations...

I have never heard of a cruise being overbooked. How could one cabin be assigned to more than one party?

Harry..that is not how it is overbooked..all cruiselines give guarantees and they have NO CABIN NUMBERS..if enough people dont cancel the guarantees dont have a cabin number..thas been going on for many years..

Thank you for clarifying..
What is the usual compensation for a "Guaranty" passenger that is bumped?

Not a new ship, just refurbished. Was new in 2000, however.

There is no "usual" compensation..each sailing, each cruiseline is different..
It really depends on the sitiation..

I have never heard of a "Guaranty" passenger being bumped. My experience has been that the cruise line will first contact people of retirement age (read flexibility) first and asked them if they are willing to change dates. If so they will be offered upgrades and on board credit for the new cruise they select. How much they get will vary on how bad the cruise line needs their booking changed. I know a couple that initially had an inside cabin and was asked twice (two different dates) to rebook on Princess. They ended up with a balcony and $600 OBC. Not a bad deal if you are flexible. No I don't know where you can go to sign up for this.

I book guarantees all the time. I find out my cabin numbers at the last minute.
