I know, I know...book a specific cabin so you get what you want...yada yada yada....

We booked 2 BC guarantees and an inside guarantee for October. Every online site I see shows just guarantees available for a BC so does that increase chances of an upgrade? The BCs are the lowest of the balconies and that is why we can afford a balcony and I would be happy with the BC but sure wouldn't mind an upgrade. We did make sure the TA knew that we didn't care if we were anywhere near each other if that makes a difference. The worst thing about the BC to me is no tub but I can live with that. Any experience from anyone to share?

 BC's have tub and shower? Why did you think a BC didn't have a tub?

No they don't. There are only 4 BCs on the O and they each have a star by them and the legend says http://www.hollandamerica.com/fivestarfleet/images/l_dp_legend-asterisk.gifShower only

"BC Guarantee" Upgrades..........We booked our Oosterdam cruise rather late, only 6 weeks prior to departure and this was our very first cruise, so we decided to gamble. We had very little "available" choices so we booked a BC Guarantee. They would not assign our room until exactally one week prior to departure. We leave on July 24th for Hubbard Glacier (just a few days!!!)

The gamble paid off for us, as our assigned cabin in on the Rotterdam deck and is an "upgrade" from the B series of cabins to the A series. We understand that the cabin size is the same, but we're on deck 7, not 4, so it's an upgrade. If we had paid for an available A at the time of booking it would have cost $300.00 more per person.
So, I'm glad we took the gamble and I would not hesitate to do it again. If I were you, I would save the money, pay for the BC and wait patiently for an upgrade. After all, there are only 4 BC rooms, so they will have to upgrade almost everyone who books that "special" price. The hardest part was not knowing our cabin number until the last minute.

Good luck,
Sea Air

Thanks Sea Air, that makes me feel better. As I said, we booked it knowing that we need to be happy with what ever we get and we will. Booking 2 of them I figure the odds increase that at least one of the cabins with be upgraded.
